This is absolutely crazy. I live on the outskirts of the city of Chicago. Even though it is the outskirts it is very densely populated. This occurred a couple of miles south of my place. The day this occurred I was discussing with my neighbor the wildlife I have seen while running through a nearby park that follows the Chicago river. I routinely see coons, but I have also seen Red Fox. I am glad I never ran into one of these.

reckon someone was trying to be like Ricky Bobby?

I've seen a big cat not from my house while hiking through the woods, thankfully it was as scared of me as I was it

oooh.... I was standing at the ridge overlooking the Walls of Jericho last Friday night.....

There, by the grace of God, I go also.

Redd Foxx is dead. You must have been watching reruns of Sanford and Son.

Yea, he finally reunited with Elizabeth. At least Grady is still around.

This story won't go away. Apparently a radical environmentalist took offense to the shooting of the cougar even though children's lives were in danger. The person wrote a threat to Mayor Daley and a near by elementary school. I guess he blamed the kids for being there? A fire intentionally set at a prairie nearby the Mayor's summer home in Michigan burned down a couple of homes.

I am an environmentalist myself, but this is stupid and this clown is not an environmentalist, but a freaking terrorist.

A cougar in the urban wilds of Chicago, huh? You never know what you will find. I hate that it somehow found its way there, but they have little business being near any city. I mean for the protection of humans in the area, as well as for themselves. It is unfortunate in any sense. Just living in a city does not mean you are safe from unlikely events with wild animals. (not to mention wild humans!) BTW...the Black Hills is a moody, atmospheric place of immense beauty and profound spirituality for the Lakota Indians. A place well worth visiting.

Yea, it is really crazy that it ended up here of all places. They were able to trace it back to South Dakota. There was also a cougar siting in Wisconsin and it left a blood track in a farmhouse. They DNA from the blood track matched the one that was killed here, so they know it was the same one. It is amazing what science can do these days.

so Cougars migrate?

so Cougars migrate?

They do not migrate, however they have a very large range and are very territorial. They have theorized that this cat was pushed out of it's habitat in South Dakota by larger dominant males, so it moved east looking for it's own territory and a female. Obviously, the farther east it went the harder it was to find a female, so it kept moving and somehow found it's way into urban Chicago.

One thing for sure, the cat was definitely not hungry. Illinois and Wisconsin do not have a female cat for this cougar, but they have a plethora of dumb slow moving deer that have not seen an animal that could kill it (besides man) in a hundred years. It is too bad it found it's way into Chicago. It could have helped our deer over population problem if it stayed in the suburban forest preserves instead of entering the city. I guess the lure of the bright lights and the big city was too much. LOL.

i read today that LSU has a 3-foot gator in one of it's lakes. they've been trying to catch it but it keeps eluding them. it's eating all the little ducklings
