Cory Boyd had a great career at USC, but I don't think he reached his full potential. With all the hooplah about McFadden, Jones, Slayton, and so forth, I think someone is going to pick this kid and get the steal of the draft. I think his NFL career will prove how complete a back he was. Look at the impact LT had catching the ball out of the backfield while still being able to run. I don't think CB is as fast as LT, but I don't think anyone would doubt he is stronger and more powerful. I'm a Titans fan and would love to have him on the squad. Do you guys agree or disagree he will have a more successful career in the NFL?

I definately agree...I personally think he was one of the best backs in the SEC the past two years...maybe not the most talented...but he played with TONS of heart. If you give him a decent O-line, I see him doing pretty well in the NFL...just wish our O-line could've blocked better for him here...

Boyd is definately one of my favorite gamecocks ever! Such a fun player to watch....

I sure hope so. I love it that Cory has gotten some respect from people outside of our program. He is a complete back that can do it all and I think that combined with his heart will lead to great things in the NFL. He may not be a flashy, front of the sports page type guy, but he's a workhorse and I believe he'll make some team very happy. I will become a fan of whatever team he plays for that's for sure.
To add to that, I too wish that our team had been good enough to really showcase his talents. I remember when Auburn came in to WB a couple years back and their feature back was Kenny Irons, an ex-gamecock. All the talk was about him, and I thought to myself, he couldn't beat out Cory Boyd (who at the time was a freshman and sophomore)...yet behind this fantastic O-line of Auburns, he is a "stud". But I digress...

Our inconsistent offensive line is really what has been keeping Spurrier's teams at SC from reaching their full potential (on offense at least). We've had some damn fine players here (Sidney, Kenny, Cory, Mike, etc.)....

I'm ready for the OL to stop getting all of the preseason attention...I'm ready for the day when we aren't worried about our line heading into the season!!!

What draft magazine are you looking at?

He is in the top 3 on 3 different NFL teams list (Baltimore, Detroit, and Pittsburgh) CBS Sports just wrote (1 day ago) as being solid in the draft (albeit a late round).

NFLDRAFT.com has him at 13

This is the article for Detroit Lions

Deep crop of running backs could benefit Lions - Detroit Lions Highlight Reel - MLive.com (http://blog.mlive.com/highlightreel/2008/04/running_backs.html)

he is in their top 5 and they would pick him at Round 3 if he is available (which he will be).

Can't find the pittsburgh article. They are looking for a 3rd down back, that can catch out of the backfield and block.

A bunch of their boards are focused on him.

LETS WISH HIM LUCK!!!

This article along with ones reported today by Giants and Bears show Boyd on the rise. Giants sent coaches to see him and talk about ability as a 3rd down and catching back.

Cory gets drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! The 238th pick in the 7th round! He'll be joining a stable consisting of Ernest Graham, Carnell Williams, Warrick Dunn, Kenneth Darby, and Michael Bennett. Congrats, and good luck, Cory!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uKGrBJdWk4

for those of you still tracking the Great SC Running Back, his Rookie didn't go so well as he had to leave the field early.

Cory hurt his left knee during mini camp. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, and he's able to fully recover....

He went late because of teams being cautious about "character issues". Even though Cory has put all that way, very far behind him and is just an awesome person in general. Cory in the 7th round is like picking up a Z06 at a yard sale.

from Lindy's: Didn't make progress expected after flashing as a junior. Has seen action since his true freshmean season, but only developed into a reliable starting option the past two seasons. Lacks explosive acceleration and true breakaway speed. Rus a bit erect, inviting big hits. Suspended for the 2005 season due to a violation of unspecified team rules. Predicted 6th round.

too lazy to type Sporting News

IMO he is the NFL prototype RB, but lacks production for whatever reason

His first two seasons were under Holtz. Hard for anyone to be a reliable starting option at any position in that offense. The knock on him is his spead, for sure. He's not a breakaway back. He's a 3rd down type guy.

he actually didn't do that bad in the 40. he ran a 4.51. that's not bad for a back his size.

You're right, but he's not that 4.3 or 4.4 guy that goes on the first day. He always got hawked down from behind in games. He was masterful in getting that last tough yard on 3rd down, but he wasn't going to bust through the line and take it 60 yards to paydirt.
