Just kidding in the thread topic about upsetting news, and do hope the very best for this young man after his college football career is over. But my question is this: if he is suppose to be their big time rb next year....... where in the world are his one on one academic advisors to tell him that he has to have 12 hours to play????????? I bet ole Pete lost it on this one when it reached his desk!
Grades bench USC's McKnight (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-uscfb14apr13,1,3291685.story)
USC tailback Joe McKnight did not attend Saturday's scrimmage and will miss the final week of spring workouts because he is academically ineligible to participate, Coach Pete Carroll said. McKnight, a sophomore who is regarded as the Trojans' top multidimensional threat, dropped a class, leaving him without the required 12 units, Carroll said. The situation will not affect McKnight's eligibility for the fall, Carroll added.

Stuff like this happens. Dropping a class isn't like failing a class. Usually you try to drop one and add another before the drop/add period ends, but sometimes if things aren't going well you just have to drop it before the midpoint of the semester.

Yeah, Lord knows I had to drop a few before that deadline date to keep my GPA in line. I would always carry one extra class each semester just in case I had to drop one. My sholarships required I had to have so many hours each semester. He's forunate that it happened in the Spring.

Very true, D^3. I had a similar issue this past Fall. It was my first semester so I didn't take into consideration the idea I might struggle in a class and have to drop it. I ended up dropping a class and only have 11 hours, but I made sure that it wouldn't interfere with any scholarship/financial aids before. Tough break for him, but at least it won't affect him for Fall.

My scholarship pretty much does me in the butt. I have to have a minimum of 15 hours for my schedule and with most of my classes being 3 or 4 hours it's virtually impossible for me to drop a class. Plus I'm a double major that has to graduate in 4 years. Yeah, my party life is still good and the GPA is still higher than a 3.5.
