Here's my way-too-early prediction for the big XII:

North Division
1) Mizzou- Didn't lose anyone
2) Nebraska- Will get their balls back, and their swagger with it
3) Kansas- Mangino will be out to prove 2007 wasn't a fluke
4) K State- Very good on Special Teams, and if they keep games close, it could be the difference in some (very similar to Virgina Tech)
5) Colorado- Good new RB Darrell Scott, and Cody Hawkins should have a big year
6) Iowa State- Maybe next year, but probably not

South Division
1) Texas- Has to beat OK and avoid knife-in-the-heart upset losses
2) Oklahoma- Will win south, barring loss to Texas
3) Ok. State- Will be very competitive, might have a shot if the dice roll their way, and they get a win over Texas or Oklahoma
4) Texas Tech- High powered offense might win them some games
5) Texas A&M- Might take Sherman awhile to get things going in the right direction, and this year there's no room for error in the South
6) Baylor- Maybe next year, if Texas, OK, OK ST, TT, and TAMU get NCAA death penalty

Overall, the conference should be good this year. The South will have much less room for error though, and will probably be tougher. Mizzouri, Kansas, and Texas Tech need to have strong years again. Texas and OK will be good as always, and K. State, A&M, and OK. ST. can beat you if you don't take them seriously. It'll be interesting to see how Pelini does in Lincoln, and to see if Sherman can turn things around at A&M. If they do, it'll be tough to win the Big 12, and I think they'll be second only to the..... wait for it.... SEC, BABY!!!!!!!!

how i see it...

North
1 Mizz - possilbe BCS game
2 Ks - Holiday Bowl
the rest of that division will be scrambling for a winning season

South
1 OU - possible NC game (but will lose)
2 Tex - still a BCS bowl but they've been disappointing since VY left
3 TT - best TT team i've seen but i doubt they make a huge impact
4 Okl St - look out Indy Bowl
the rest will be watching bowls on TV

Yeah, barring some big upsets, I think the winner of the Red River Shootout wins the South, as usual. Makes it kinda hard to pick, but on the other hand it's kinda 50/50....

Texas lost 7 players on defense. They lost their best two OL on a poor OL.

They lost their top RB and their top recieving threat as well as their top TE.

Texas always has talent. But I don't see them losing THAT much and doing anything significant.

Well, when you have a team like Texas, and get great recruits year after year, the guys leaving are always going to be good players. Thing is, the guys that were waiting in the wings are good players too. I don't expect they'll stumble too much. And just wait till you get some of that Will Muschamp defense. Poor Bradford.

True, but they aren't USC and pulling in 5-6 5*'s every year. And I have yet to see Texas develop their players to the fullest of their potential. Vince Young being the lone exception. And the only reason Mack succeeded there is because he decided to quit coaching Vince and let him be Vince.

So his best coaching decision was to quit coaching.

Texas will not fall far, but my prediction is they'll be another 10-3 team with losses to OU/Tech and possibly A&M or their bowl game.

Back to reality you go Jayhawks, played a very easy schdule and besides putting 72 points on Nebraska didnt really impress me!! Your a basketball school!

i agree. i don't see how Mack Brown doesn't get on the hot seat for doing less with more. as much as i hate stoops, he does develop his players.

lol, at least we have a mutual distaste for each others coaches.

Texas is always going to be a 10 win team under Mack. Partly because outside of Arkansas, Mack won't schedule any OOC competition. And don't gimme Ohio State, that was done the year before Mack ever got there.

He wouldn't schedule Arkansas imo if the alumni didn't demand it. he enjoys beating up on old SWC foes like Rice and SMU.

Ramp, the hot seat thing is a lot like why Bob Stoops isn't even close to the hot seat in OU. Right before he got here(and Mack at UT), the programs were a joke of their former selves. Only 8-9 years removed from that after decades of dominance sticks in the minds of several powerful alumni.

Well, let's hear OU's OOC opponents for the last couple of years...

SoonerManiac

Oregon, was scheduled when they should have went to the NT in 2001.

Miami, was scheduled with ESPN being the middle man 2-3 years ago. Miami was still a 9 win team.

UCLA, not sure about this one.

But if you are that interested Fannin Fan, you might check this link (http://www.soonerstats.com/football/seasons/schedule.cfm?seasonid=2009) out.

the big 12 was a joke until Mizz and Ks emerged. it was OU and Tex for the picking since neb fell to nothing. it's good to see them back. what's the thought on TAM and Neb? are they ever gonna come back to revelance?

btw-i have OU in the NC game

Yeah, I think both will thrive to some degree. A&M should be more agressive and will better utilize it's talent under Sherman. Nebraska, I don't know for sure but I think Pelini is the right man for the job in Lincoln. At least he should bring back the black shirt defense.

I agree. The south conference was basically the top of the conference. I know people want to say it was just OU/Texas, but Texas Tech is not an easy team to play. But beyond those three, it wasn't much.

Nebraska looks to be doing okay. I don't know, they have CU's old OC where they run a hybrid spread option/west coast offense.

A&M should be better with the WCO as well. If they can get Mcgee to pass the ball well enough. He's an option QB.

I've been saying this since during the '06 Rose Bowl where they played the interview where cMB said "we tried coaching him and telling him what to do but that wasn't working, then we just let him play and this is what happened." He's not that great of a coach.

I agree with the TTU prediction. Crabtree.....Crabtree.......anyone?
