I'll say it will be Mark Barron, Alabama.

I could see him starting at several positions but it will be safety without a doubt

He dominated the State Championship game from offense and defense

Well, In terms of players who will come in and make an immediate impact, I'd say Joe Adams has the best chance at doing that, because none of the returning starters have any clout with Petrino.

Joe Adams at Arkansas will get some serious playing time. I'm not saying he's the most talented out there, although he is incredibly talented, but he will most certainly get a chance to prove what he is made of immediately.

Patrick Johnson, CB, 6'1", 175, 4.41, Pompano Beach, Florida. Johnson is the No.1 ranked cornerback in the nation by Rivals and the No. 3 overall ranked player in the nation. Johnson received offers from all the big-time programs in the nation and chose LSU over Miami, USC, FSU and Florida.

OR

Chris Tolliver, WR, 6'3", 195, 4.5, Rayville. Very highly recruited four-star wide receiver. Chose LSU over Alabama and 16 other scholarship offers.

Not a bad two, but I'll give you three.

LB - Jerrell Harris (Gadsden City HS/Gadsden, AL) 6-3/215/4.6

The highly sought after blue chipper has all the tools to be an impact player in college; size, speed, and strength. He is a playmaker on defense who shows good instincts and a nose for the ball. Harris will likely fill the strongside linebacker spot on BAMA's defense and has a great shot at earning early playing time next season. As a junior, Harris posted 100 tackles, 15 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 INT's. This past season, he added 145 tackles (95 solo stops), 16 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and 3 INT's. He was recently selected as a Parade All-American for the 2007 season. Harris chose the Tide over offers from Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Clemson. Off the field, he is a good student who will have no issues qualifying.

WR - Julio Jones (Foley HS/Foley, AL) 6-3/215/4.5

Jones is a rare talent that has superstar written all over him. His raw athleticism is impressive, and he will be an impact player as a true freshman. The Foley star possess great size, strength, hands, and speed. His raw athleticism and physical abilities are far superior to most other players at his level. As a junior, Jones torched opposing defenses with 75 receptions for 1,301 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a senior, he reeled in 68 passes for 1,181 yards and 16 touchdowns, all despite opposing defenses keying on him. He was recently named to Parade Magazine's All-American Team as well as being voted Alabama's Mr. Football. Jones had offers from all over the nation, but in the end, chose BAMA over programs like Florida, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Southern California, Oklahoma, Miami, Louisville and Texas Tech. He is on track to qualify academically.

ATH - Mark Barron (St. Paul's HS/Mobile, AL) 6-2/212/4.5

Mark Barron is an athlete who has the ability to star on either side of the ball in college, but the Tide staff likes his potential at safety or possibly outside linebacker. Barron has very good speed and agility. He is also explosive and plays smart on defense. As a junior, the St. Paul's athlete averaged just over 10 yards per carry while amassing 785 yards on the ground (10 touchdowns) and 370 yards receiving (4 touchdowns). As a senior, he split time between running back and safety, and helped lead his St. Paul's team to the 5A state championship. Off the field, he is a great student and will qualify easily. Barron chose the Tide over offers from LSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida State, and Georgia Tech among others.

it's obviously going to be O'neal Wilder or another one of our amazing incoming freshman receivers.

just kidding.

But seriously, look out for JC transfer (I know, not a frosh) Tyson Lee to possibly take over at Qb for State. This kid is a stud.

I don't see any way that Chris Tolliver sees the field this year. LSU's WR corp is too stacked. The Terrance Tolliver could be a star this year though.

Honestly, Johnson is the only true freshman that will see more than very limited playing time this year at LSU. LSU redshirted around 18 players last year that are very talented.

I would really like to have this guy. We need linebackers. It is probably the position where we are the thinest.

With your good recruiting class, there will probably be several true freshmen who will take the field and make an impact this year.

Has Johnson qualified? I heard that he had some serious issues...aside from the miraculous jump in his ACT score.

Watch out for Will "The Thrill" Hill... he should make an immediate impact. #3 overall player by ESPN, #6 on Scout, and #10 on Rivals will have an opportunity to shine for a team with a poor secondary last year. Also, Omar Hunter could play immediately.

Agreed...also, Carl Moore is a taller/faster version of Dallas Baker...and don't forget, we RS one of the top WR from the class of '07 in Deonte Thompson.

Janoris Jenkins is the dark-horse, IMO. He was a 4-star DB...but I've heard he's put on some weight, gotten faster...and could be the "gem" of the class.

Can't wait to see Big John Brown on the DL.....kid reminds me of Warren Sapp.

can i just say between college recruiting and the NFL draft i'm sick to death of hearing about 40-yard dash times, bench presses, and highly speculative forecasts about completely unproven players?

obviously recruiting is very important but there are so many other variables to consider; chief among them the coaches' individual gameplans and ability to maximize player potential?

i guess it's just the offseason blues. i'm sick of all the conjecture and i'm ready for real action again. either that or i'm just retaining water...

I hope some true freshman start because they're that good, and not because we're that thin. I'm basically sure it would be because of lack of talent/depth.

I also like John Brown, Janoris Jenkins, & Chris Rainey (Medical RS?) at Florida

The Thrill should translate to a thrill indeed for the Gators! I am looking forward to seeing him play. I expect he will absolutely be a factor early on. There are several with Bama that I am looking forward to seeing as well. Can't wait to see JJ!

Both very good players, but with the guys ahead of them (Jai Eugene, Dominique Byrd, Terrance Tolliver, Brandon LaFell, etc.) I doubt they have a huge impact.

I don't see either of them making a huge impact next year. Hill might see time in nickel and dime packages, but unless our secondary guys don't improve at all, I doubt he sees the field as a starter next year. Hunter should be about 4th or 5th on the depth chart so I doubt either of them end up being one of the most productive freshman in the SEC next year.

For Auburn,

The only postion an incoming freshmen might get a spot is on special teams.
Two of the fastest kids that will get a look is Phillup Pierre-Louis 10.5 100 meters and Harry Adams 10.3 100 meters.

We have a couple of reshirt freshmen who might get some work but we already have something like 27 soph. this year. All have a lot of playing time from last year.

BP we were after Tolliver just as hard, and the excuse I like to use is that he didn't want the pressure of leaving the state. He was LSU bound the whole time, but I'm willing to bet he liked the attention he got from the school with the #1 signing class. :D
