Ive decided to start a movement that promotes the white value system. This movement will be based around white ethics, white families, white christian theology and the white community. We will rally around and support white leaders and business owners. Who's with me?
Does anybody foresee a problem with this?

White scholarships??
What would that be? The United Honky College Fund?
And why is it that you hear about "traditionally black colleges", but never any traditionally white ones?
I 've always found it odd that, nearly every group that complains about being discriminated against due to their race or color forms a group that singles their members out solely because of their race or color. Isn't that counter productive?

Why historically black colleges and universities? Let me take a wild guess, could it be because a good number of schools, especially in our beloved SEC, refused to allow blacks to attend? If you couldn't drink from the same water fountain or use the same restroom or sit in the same section on the bus, then you damn sure couldn't plop down in a desk next to a white person or form a study group. Make no mistake, we have historically white schools. We just don't call them that. We call them Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, etc. Today, historically black colleges do much like the historically white ones do, they admit "minorities" and even offer scholarships for the sake of diversity.
While at UT, I took classes on both black literature and women's literature. Why were such overtly discriminatory courses offered? Why not white lit or male lit? Well, after some examination, it was determined that American lit was white, male lit. That was all that was being taught. Administrators felt compelled to choose between taking control over the course-work offered by professors or creating classes where minorities and women would be the focus. Now, was this some kind of evil? Some plot to rid the world of whiteness? I don't think so. I think that most of the things you guys are complaining about are a direct result of blacks historically having a need to join together to achieve any semblance of equality. I don't think that we should be faulted for trying as a group to improve our economic or educational status. After all, haven't we also used these forums to discuss the many problems confronting black communities? How can those problems be fixed without placing some emphasis on aiding black businesses? You guys are saying that blacks really need to do better, but crying that it's unfair to join together in that attempt. How does that make sense?

You're joking right GN? My post was obviously dripping with sarcasm. Ive been pretty open at this forum about the fact that I care less about what color people are and more about how the treat me. As for the college fund, I have no problem with that because I know there are alot of African Americans who come from less fortunate enviroments and if it gives somebody the chance to get a leg up then im all for it. I would like to see a white college fund though, as well as latino. I also have no problem with a month devoted to black history or a TV network devoted to the black community, I have a remote control and 100 other channels to choose from and in reality probably 90% of them are geared towards white folks. My only problem is with people who disrespect my race all the while demanding respect for theirs.

Yep, you were pointing toward something like an all black or all latino beauty pageant (which those do exist) and what would happen if someone began an all white beauty pageant, it would be deemed as racist. I think that was your point anyway and I agree with that and I agree with what Fernando posted as well.

I guess the "white" point is...we get tired of all the separation...we're not the generation that disputed integration...we're not the generation that separated ourselves from blacks...I've never been part of a "racist" movement in my life. Why do I have to pay for what my ancestors did? People like Pastor Wright won't let it go...everything has to be about race...or from a "black" point of view rather than from an American POV. I guess some of us have evolved...and some haven't.

The separation statement is a good one. Seems a lot of activists love to label themselves as "hyphen Americans", say how white people can't understand, make grandeur of the first (insert race here) this or that. Then they turn around and talk about unity. Sounds like separatist aggrandizement to me.
Why can't said people just be Americans, communicate with everyone, and act like the first (insert race) whatever is simply they way it's supposed to be and move on?
After all, things only become normalcy when we stop spotlighting.
Same can be said for "hate" crimes. Seems to me, you violate anyone through violence it's pretty much hate your heart.

It seems everyone has challenges in life. We all get our feelings hurt by someone that doesn't like us 'cause we're Gamecocks or have green eyes or work in law, or live in the south, etc... The point is that some of us have to deal with it and keep working. If we had someone to blame for our (normal everyday) challenges, we'd probably do the same thing. Black America has been treated horribly and there's no doubt in my mind that they have been set-back through oppression.
The sad part of it all, imo, is that they have been enslaved a second time by politicians that have convinced some, that they aren't responsible for not wanting to get up at 4:00 a.m. to study for an exam or go to work. They were also enabled by overzealous entitlement programs that, essentially, put them back on the plantation relying on a certain politician (master) to keep them fed and housed. They replaced the father in the household with Uncle Sam and that further ruined their future prospects. It was intentional based on locking up their vote and it worked. That is the story that needs to be preached by Rev. Wright and other pastors in their churches. The problem is, hate is an easier sell, and make no mistake, these so-called religious leaders are raking it in.

Nando makes some excellent points. It's along the lines of the Mad TV sketch making fun of Survivor...where they seperate the tribes.
They have 4 groups :The Asian-Americans, the Mexican-Americans, the African-Americans, and the Americans.
It's actually pretty damn funny...probably on You-Tube if you wanna look for it.
Anyway....I get shk's POV and I get Nando's. Both sides are right to a degree. The difference between what shk's talking about and what the KKK represents is hatred. While promoting white values and all that, you don't practice hatred, racism, segragation, seperation, ostracism, all that crap that makes the world a crappy place.
I have a feeling I'm going on a rant here but anyway....
Most of the history, well...pretty much all, you learn in high school is white male history. It's just not labeled as such. It is history. The problem w/labeling things white is how freaking many different places white folks have come from. I've done my family tree research, and I can trace my roots all the way back the 2nd ship that landed in Jamestown, VA. Browning is a pretty white, British last name.
But what about Irish? German? Italian? Portuguese? Spanish? Polish?
They're white, yes. But I don't consider myself any of those. Because I'm not. If you say white values, that tends to include...well, anyone who is of fair complexion. But I sure as hell don't share the values that white Nazi-Germans shared. Get the point.
This reminds me of a drunken discussion I had one of my black friends after we got off work. He was asking me, "Man...how the hell do you tell if someone is Jewish." And....you know...it had never occured to me. I can tell....well...most of the time. There's some people who don't "look the part" w/their facial features or what not...but he had no idea. It's really easy to tell people of your respective race apart, but others....let's use the Asians as an example since I'm pretty certain there isn't anyone posting from Cambodia on here. It's pretty difficult to tell what region they are from, unless you've extensively studied their culture.
I dunno...I'm getting off point.
While on the discussion of race and the conversation I had w/my buddy....he's from Arkansas and came from a pretty podunk area where there was rampant racism. He wasn't too fond of white folks when he moved here. I've helped change his viewpoint of us...we're not all bad.
And I made this point to him:
I understand that what whites did to blacks in America in the past was extremely wrong, and I'd be pretty PO'd if I were in your shoes too. But you can't label all of us as angry racist slaveowners any more than we can label blacks as ignorant and stupid. It's just not true.
You've got to understand that as many white folks who wanted to keep the stupid institution known as slavery, there were just as many white folks willing to fight and die to end it to give blacks the liberties and freedoms that all men and women deserve. So you can't label us all as bad.

It was intentional based on locking up their vote and it worked. That is the story that needs to be preached by Rev. Wright and other pastors in their churches. The problem is, hate is an easier sell, and make no mistake, these so-called religious leaders are raking it in.
Agreed to a point! But here lies the rub...how does "White America" sell that with a straight face?? Why does Rev Wright need to be held to a higher standard than his counterparts?? How do you sell that when it's completely fine that the white Christian leaders sit in their pulpits and spew their hatred talk against homosexuals?? How do you sell that when the white leader of this country took us to war under false pretenses which has led to countless lives lost and billions of dollars spent and we are seemingly ok with that?? Hate IS an easier sell...nobody knows that better than white christian leaders. Hell...this country was built and runs on that very pretense. America is a "do as I say, not as I do" country. Holy Crap....that's outlined in some version or another every night on your local news.
So, why all of the outrage for what Rev Wright is preaching?? Seriously, are you that upset over what he is saying, or are you really upset over the fact that he has learned "how to play the game" in this country?? Hate and Fear are valuable allies for the leaders of this country...always have been. The bottom line is that White America is solely responsible for creating these "dangerous people" we now despise and the irony is that they were created out of the very mold and example we provided and continue to provide in the form of our leaders.
If White America is REALLY wanting things to change and to rid the talk of the past, then the change has to start in the mirror and at home by first putting our past behind us. Leading by example....what a novel concept!! We need to re-evaluate our priorities with regards to our values and morals and to make sure that those that we look up to and trust to lead, are held to those lofty standards. If we continue to reason and excuse our own fears and racist tendencies with regards to ANY type of people, then we certainly have ZERO room to stand in judgement of those who are doing the same!! In a nutshell, it's finally time to "walk the walk".

Racism is only found in majorities, never in minorities. Honestly disliking people because of their skin color and differences is simple human nature...ethnic groups don't like other groups because they are not generally of the same appearance. If whites, blacks, etc..where all forced to live in a country with only their ethnicities, I promise you would see darker black people hate on lighter skinned black people, white people hate on pale skinned people with red hair, etc and etc.....Hate, it's just what human beings do best....

It doesn't get much whiter than me bud. lol....Straight off the British ship white. lol
After re-reading my earlier rant....I am pretty stingy w/the question marks...choosing not to include them at all in the appropriate spaces. Apologies, lol
Anyway....I purposefully go out of my way, well...I find myself doing it...so maybe no purposefully on a conscious level, befriending people who I go to school or work w/that are from different areas of the world.
One of my best friends in high school was from Peru...he helped me learn a lot of Spanish.
I used to work at a pizza place here in Lexington that had a lot of Turkish teenagers working there...apparently Turks who have a decent amount of $ like to "vacation" in the US for about a year and just work and live like an American as an experience...you know...much like we go to France, Spain...etc for a year.
I hooked up w/this German exchange chick in high school......ok...so maybe that wasn't about culture....I'm sure I learned something out of the deal.....lol
And finally, I work w/Mexicans at work as well, and have gone to their homes and hung out as well.
Point is...I go out and see how these people act around each other and learn about their culture...in these situations I'm the only white guy around....I'm used to being in the majority....you learn to appreciate different cultures and different people and you realize that hey...my way may not be right or wrong...just different.
You'll find that treating folks w/respect right out of the gate will eliminate alot of problems. Don't judge a book by it's cover. The only person I hang out w/who actually watches and follows NASCAR, is black. Go figure. You just never know w/people. Take the time to get to know 'em.
