Im hearing the league could fold before they ever play the first game. I think its something to do with the TV contract. From what I hear, we are supposed to know by Wednesday. Anybody heard about this?

Last my sources told me, they are looking for some sugar daddy with money to burn to take up ownership or something. Perhaps a sponsor, I'm not sure. They have a deadline I guess before finally calling it quits.
I also don't know if they will choose to just push back the start to next year, or call it off for good.....

Yeah, hopefully somebody will pick up the contract. It would be sweet to have some football to beat the Spring dead period.
Honestly, I have about as much faith in the AAFL succeeding as I do Britney Spears ever making a successful comeback.

I have as much faith in the AAFL as a social group of straight men actually loving Cher's music.

I tried but I can't get into it. Its not smash-mouth enough and its like watching Hawaii plays its clone every game of the season.

The problem is that TV people want an assurance that they'll play before offering a contract; and the potential investors want an assurance that it'll be on TV before they pony up money. Catch-22. We'll see, but there are already a lot of people who've bought tickets and such, so they need to hurry up and get together. It doesn't seem so difficult to set up a meeting with investors and networks.

History teaches us that success for this league will be a LONGSHOT---remember the USFL?

What a disappointment that would be if they never got started! It is always so difficult to keep a money sapping venture above water in the early stages. It would be nice if they could work it out. It would provide some fun for us during the loooong off-season.

Hell you don't have to think back that far.... remember the XFL?

I find it strange that the sub-leagues that come out (USFL, XFL and this) always fail. As huge as football is, you would think that someone could make it work. Hockey has Jrs, baseball has the minors, why can't we get something going besides the AFL and it's weird rules? It would be excellent for the off-season and would be an excellent farm league for prospects. Even the NFL Europe failed.

Maybe its because the jr. leagues for other sports don't seek out major tv network coverage from the get-go? The NFL had to gain popularity before getting the TV time it gets today, maybe the problem with these sub-leagues is that they are trying to perform at the same level as the NFL without gaining any fan support first.

As much as football is loved, as a sport, you would think something could be worked out. Maybe the guys involved are not good with business know-how...

Spring/Summer sports.....which ones are/have been successful? Boreball aka baseball and soccer aka boreball are the two team sports that have survived over the long haul.
Here in the South especially, folks turn to stuff that they can do with their family and/or kids during the warm months and in the battle for that vitally important entertainment dollar who's gonna win?
I love football and I love my wife but I need a break from the both of them to maintain some sanity. A box of worms, six pack of brew, and a seat in the shade with a light breeze and I'm content.
