No power in it, it's laughable.
UF #1???? Why, when the #2 team beat them senseless and they couldn't stop anybody with a pulse?
Clemson #4???? Why? Your #6 team whipped them in the LAST game played and returns nearly intact.
VaTech #5????

This year is a different year than last year, otherwise you would have LSU #1 in the power polls.
Also, the ranking might take schedule into consideration. UGA is unlikely to make it through there schedule with less than 2 losses, because of it's difficulty. We'll see though.

Pretty weird. I can't see how Georgia is not #1.
VaTech has been slipping of late.
I'd even have to question Bama being as high as #8--we've got too many question marks (Especially on defense), and several of those questions won't be answered until the freshman class reports in the fall.

UGA should be no.1 until they are proven to be otherwise.... They are the most talented team in this part of the country. Although, UF is not far behind.

Agree that UGA should be #1 but history dictates that these two could just about be interchangeable at the position. Until we start to win a few more against the gators the media will continue to pick UF above us. As far as Clemson and VT they are only there so that Southern Pigskin doesn't receive hate mail from ACC fans. We all know their true place on that poll would be somewhere around #8 or #9 behind USC.

Firstly, Don't bring up that UGA whooped UF last year and then state that you know it's a different year. UF might very well be better than UGA this year, assuming the defense plays as if it has more experience. UF's offense is certainly better than UGA's.
Secondly, While power polls are not suppose to take into account schedule strength, you see teams move down in them after losing to a team that is ranked higher on the road. If the power poll is not suppose to take into account schedule strength, then the #2 team losing to the #1 team shouldn't move the #2 team down. Power polls still do take schedule into account even if they shouldn't.

so by your statement you think that UF's defense can improve but UGA's offense can not?

I'm simply argueing that it's not outrageous for a poll to have UF ahead of UGA.

And a bullfrog might not bump his ass on the ground if he sprouts wings. Hmmmm, so UF is the only team that might improve over the offseason.....yea, that's why LSU isn't confused with the top Academic institutions. Since you must ASSUME what you post, I can on the other hand state without fear that UGA will be BETTER on Offense and BETTER on D.

I will not dignify your second paragraph with remark as such would be an affront to all sentient beings.

the conference is setting a precedence on overall strength.....to the point its almost impossible to make any predictions or at least predictions I'd put a bet on.....the coaching all around is top shelf, all the biggies are loaded w/talent, theres just not that much separation
the point Im building up to is that just because UGA was on a roll at the end of the year, IMO doesnt warrant the #1's being thrown at them, to me UF is as good on paper as UGA, LSU and AU have too many holes and question marks to be predicted up there w/those two and the prognisticators agree, most of 'em that is because if Alabama hadnt of have that 4 game stretch losing to UGA in overtime, LSU in the last second, then we would be predicted to be first in the West honestly
this post was just me ramblin..........................cuz Im a ramblin man (lets see who can remember that)

UGA fans seem to think that they've already won the SEC for next year. UGA is loaded next year, but they could easily lose 3-4 games and end up in the Peach Bowl if the ball bounces the wrong way. Such is life in College Football.

That's right AZ. These are all preseason rankings based on paper. IMO, the 3 highest rated power pollers at end of season will be UF, UGA, & Bama. FSU will be rising in the ACC. Miami won't.

Dawg Almighty!
GTTiger, YES, a poll can have whomever the author wishes anywhere he wishes. And yes, Southern Pigskin has every right to put teams wherever the hell they want to and to call their poll whatever the hell they want to.
I am free to critique, demean, castigate, or otherwise trash whatever they come up with using no more or less the same criteria they did (and no reasoning is provided).
It isn't about who is right, it is simply crap for us to post about.
Now as for your remark about Dawgs celebrating the SECC early, kindly link such up and let us identify them.....or post an apology.

Your problem isn't ramblin, it's bammerneckitis, defined as a type of insanity marked by fondness of TP for the bungholio and laundry detergent and the need to fantasize about imaginary victories which leads to detachment from reality. Peculiar facets of this affliction include extreme reactions to spoken words like Auburn & Tennessee and the mention of Croom can cause convulsions. :D

We obliterated 3 of the teams on that list (f$u, UT, and usce), lost a close one (one of those on five 4th-down conversions) to two others, and lost by 12 (after leading in that game) to UGA---which is not being beat "senseless," btw---with an injured QB and three freshmen (and one sophomore) on the DL trying to stop Moron-o.
I'd say we're in the discussion, but we'll settle this whole 1 vs. 2 thing in Jacksonville.....

True, but I want experience more then talent. I'm just a little worried after looking at BOL's eligibility tracker.
DE: M. Talbert, L. Davis, B. Deaderick, B. Greenwood
NG/DT: J. Chapman, N. Gentry, A. McCullough, B. Motley, L. Washington
That's all we got...and there is about 4 guys who haven't played a down. Thank the lord for this influx of talent coming in, or we'd be scewwweeddd.

Tebow was senseless, hell, he was on his back more than a working gal on Friday night. (sacked 6 times) :biggrin2:
That's the deal though, we play every year so you're only as good as your last one, just like it is with UT, Vandy, UK, and Auburn. Yes, we'll settle it for this year this Fall.

I don't think Rutledge was out, unless I just don't remember it. Rutledge was gone for the Michigan game and that definitely created alot of protection problems.

Senseless??? The Gators fumble the ball twice inside the 10 yd line...and lose by 12? You call that beating someone "senseless"...
The only team in the country that rivals UF in the talent department is USC. UGA doesn't. The Gator offense is miles better than UGA's...however, UGA's defense is miles better than UF's. Point is...with a "mild" improvement in UF's defense...the Gators will be hard to beat. UGA showed last season...they can and will lose to teams with "much" less talent...so, shouldn't that effect their "Power Ranking" for this upcoming season?? IMO...no...what happened in '07 is history...and a great run at the end of the season doesn't translate into domination in the next.;)

Yeah, I realized that later...that I was confusing the UM game. Now I'm really confused....how the hell did we give up 6 sacks? Probably a lot of 5WR sets (and Tim's hesitancy to run from the shoulder). I only watched it once...

Not excuses...facts. Is it not fact that the Gators fumbled twice inside the 10? Is it not fact that UGA won by 12 points? You're the delusional one, CK...that, or you have no idea what "beating someone senseless" means...
SoCal doesn't play in the SEC...or they would regularly have 3-4 losses. And the statement stands until you disprove it...which you can't.

Probably one of Mullen's most "horribly called" games ever. Tebow was hurt so there were no running sets in the game for him...which allowed UGA to "tee-off" on the ends and blitz every play. What sucked was, K. Moore was averaging around 7 yds per carry...however, after fumbling twice...he was taken out of the game. Harvin average nearly 10 yds per carry...yet, Mullen kept the 5-WR sets. Props to UGA, though...they followed a specific plan to beat us and it worked.

All EXCUSES and NO FACTS bub, you've already ADMITTED to only having seen the game but one time. It is NOT FACT that the Gators fumbled inside the 10 at all, if you would bother to educate yourself with the game recap PRIOR to posting you wouldn't have to absorb my stinging rebuttals~!
UF fumbled at its own 39 in the 1st Quarter which did lead to a UGA TD, the first of the game. UF fumbled it away in the 4th Quarter at its own 15 and the Dawgs ran out the clock.
SoCal was your reference for talent and only in Carrol's first season did the rubbers lose more than TWO! The statement is hereby dissed into the fiery furnace of failed floridian fables and folklore.

I'm just asking, would you have pulled Moore from the game? I didn't really think that second fumble was completely his fault (the very high snap). And his first fumble was after a 12 yard gain, or something like that.

I would have only because Moore has a history of putting it on the ground...espeically in tight, tough contests against better opponents.
Meyer made the right move, imo. Moore is totally unreliable...
