McCain, Obama win LSU vote
A sign of things to come Saturday? U.S. Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama won a mock presidential primary sponsored by LSU Student Government. Obama trounced the Democratic field, receiving 76.7% of the student vote, while U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton picked up 21.8%. The Republican race was closer, with McCain picking up 37% ahead of Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 22.4% and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas with 21.6%. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who dropped out of the race Thursday, gained 19% of the vote. More than 2,000 LSU students participated in the online primary, which was held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. Nearly 46% of the students identified themselves as Republicans, while almost 27% said they were Democrats and 15% called themselves independents.
