Correction: He actually committed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Southern is just where he's sending some paperwork on Wednesday. Coach Hughes, who would have been responsible for getting Lawrence, Brown, and Charles Mitchell into Oxford, is now recruiting down in Hattiesburg and is force feeding a bunch a lies down the throats of the recruits. Look for the class to be top 40 or top 30 come the beginning of summer and then drop off the planet once the re-rankings come out late August.

Dandy Don report...
LSU lost out on one of the top players in the nation Friday when DeAndre Brown committed to the University of Southern Mississippi. Brown has severe academic problems and there was no way that he could enroll at LSU. Les Miles was at Ocean Springs (Mississippi) High School Tuesday and took Brown out of one of his classes and met with the school's academic advisor along with Brown and the school principal. Brown was told that he would not be eligible to enroll at LSU according to a source at Ocean Springs High. Brown chose USM because they are a member of conference USA and the conference allows each member school to sign two partial qualifiers each year. LSU and Coach Miles did everything they could do within NCAA guidelines to find a way to get Brown in school.

Both LSU and Ole Miss told DeAndre that they would accept his signature and try to sign and place him or work with him through the summer but he wouldn't be able to enroll.

the coach at Ocean Springs told my buddy the other day that it was a 95% that he would qualify and play this year. He said that most of the academic problems were blown out of proportion and for USM fans not to worry at all about it
