Of all the ACC football teams, which one could come into the SEC and compete(tradition, fan support, alumni support, facilities, etc)?
of all the teams in the ACC i would say that:
1. Clemson
2. VaTech
3. Fla St.
4. maybe either UNC or NCSU, but i don't think so
What do you think and why?

Va. Tech is the only one that plays an SEC brand of football.

This is sort of a non discussion but, if I had to pick a team that would be the best fit for the SEC, I'd say Clemson. It would never happen however. 1) We don't need anymore teams splitting up the money pie and 2)SC would never allow it just like Georgia would never allow Tech back in.

^Exactly. Stole the words right out of my mouth. VT is an SEC caliber team too, IMO.

i have bises too, but you can't argue with the fact that Clemson has the biggest stadium, (now) some of the nicest facilities, and a rabidfan base (everyone in Sc is rabid about on e of the teams).

if i were clemson i would want to stay in the acc b/c the sec is power packed in the coaching dept, and that equates to EVERY game being tough....

Have you ever watched a Tommy Bowden coached team play a game? That dink and dunk crap would get eaten alive in the SEC.

Almost every school would dream of being in the SEC. The only two football conferences that make more money as a whole are the AFC and NFC.

i'm not talkin about the coach....the program.....which of tese programs....in their current state, would keep up with the SEC in all the areas listed.....that's all. i am not tommy bowden fan (he is a glorifies jeff bowden in my opinion) BUT HE is at one of the best overall schools in the ACC.

I just think it is interesting to look at the fact that Clemson has all these resources, and can't get it done. IF Scar had the same resources, and was in the weak ACC they would have one a couple ACC crowns.

We have a lot more money and a much larger alumni base than Clemson. Dirty little secret. Our problem is that since we're located in the capitol city every project that we want to undertake is like a rectal exam because of city government.

And we won a few ACC crowns back in the day. Once in '69 and again in '73 but they took the '73 crown away for recruiting violations or something like that.

do you have more alumni support than Clemson.....i was under the impression that Clemson had one of the best in the country....and i know what you mean about Columbia...couple of my friends went to USCe and they said alot more would be done if the city would allow it.

VT and that is it.
I would love to have Va Tech and Beamer in the SEC. I love their style of football. What they do on special teams is awesome, and their defense would fit right in.

Not syaing I would want them in here though, we wouldn't be able to handle all the great teams in our conference... that might be one of the best compliments a team can get saying they could belong in the sec!

I agree that vt has the best team for the sec, but it is more than just what you put on the field. revenues are a big factor, and the fact that Clemson has like 12 programs ranked in the top 25 is an indication that they might be the best program in the ACC and on ethat could make the transition to the SEC.

VT and that is it.
What do you mean VT and thats it. First, if the SEC were to expand it would have to expand by 2. Secondly, which SEC schools are going to give up revenue to two schools that they don't have to. There are not two two teams in the ACC that are going to bring enough TV revenue to cover their own share. We would simply be splitting the money 15 ways instead of 13. SEC schools depend on that money to cover their whole sports programs. You have to be realistic. Its all about the Benjamins.

I didn't say hey lets let them join, I said they could actually keep up with us... I for one don't want anyone to join.
If you read the 1st post it says who could compete not who do you want to join... try again

Va Tech, they could compete in the west but I doubt it in the east.
The New England Patriots MIGHT be able to compete in the SEC East. :D

Not everyone can have an original mascot. besides, doesn't Auburn really want to be that civil war bird anyway?

Lol, they might as well just change the name!
I motion to change Auburns team name to the Eagles.... regardless of whether Clemson joins the conference or not. I mean, the Auburn fans already think they're the Eagles anyway.

What about UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs! Plus TCU being the Horned Frogs is pretty cool.
To answer the question..... I would choose Florida State Univ. That way maybe UF will schedule an OOC road game outside the state. :)

Sounds like something you get from eating too much jambalaya...
Anyway, to answer the question, it'd have to be Clemson or VT. VT has had the better program but Clemson has the better location, and a pre-existing rivalry with an SEC program. I guess if it ever came down to it, both of them would be admitted to keep the numbers even.
Come on guys, there are several schools that would be a good fit in the SEC:
GA Tech - hell, they already have 5 SEC Championships in football & 4 National Championships, the most recent in 1990
FSU - I know they are not well liked by most SEC fans, but is anyone really prepared to argue that they wouldn't be a good fit?
Clemson - for all the reasons stated already; fan base, stadium, history/tradition...
VA Tech - Another really good fit, less history, but based on who & what they are now, they could make sense
NC State - VA & NC both don't have a team in the SOUTHEASTERN Conference...
VA & UNC - both make marginal sense. But for historical reasons, they both make as much (or more) sense than Vandy (or Tulane. or Suwannee)
Miami - I don't like the idea, but you could certainly make an argument here as well...
Wake, Duke, Maryland & Boston College would be the worst fits; with BC being THE worst, MD, Duke & Wake (in that order of worst to 4th worst)
So, my opinion, best to worst fit:
1. GT
2. FSU
3. Clemson
4. VT
5. NC St
6. VA
7. UNC
8. Miami
9. Wake
10. Duke
11. MD
12. BC

I'll comment on that. With your first 3, GT, FSU, and Clemson, they would never be let into the conference. Their rivals are in the SEC, there's no more room for the brotherly love that the SEC shares
VT is what I said. They play SEC caliber ball.
VA I have no idea.
UNC is horrible.
The rest are ACC all the way. because they blow.

I'm going with VT! A virgina team would be a great addition. And to add another team, I'd say WV. both Virginia states with top schools to expand to 14 teams. Sounds good to me.

Truthfully since you'd have to add TWO, one of them would have to be FSU... the only team that geographically would make sense in the SEC West.

Clemson was an absolute pain when UGA had them on the schedule for two years recently. They played well and really hard. FSU wouldn't be a bad fit either due to location.

The last time UGA played Clemson it was like 35-7 and was never a good game at all. UGA crushed them from start to finish.

If I HAD to choose, I would probably say Georgia Tech. They would fit right into the rivalry scene, and could probably add another dimension of toughness. But I don't want any more teams in the SEC!
