And we did that going through a new DC every other year or so. Like I've said before DC's come and DC's go, but Auburn keeps humming right along.

LSU, Auburn, Georgia. Way to go SEC. Good find

looks like AU has a slight edge in the SEC with UGA #2 & LSU nipping at the heels for #3

Very impressive to have 3 teams from our conference listed in the top 6 for every category and 2 lsted in the top 4 for every category :)

That's awesome Auburn, you can credit those to some outstanding DC's and some solid defensive talent.

I guess the saying isn't true though, "Defense win Championships".

Im extremely surprised to not see Va Tech on there

What single season team would you all say has been the best defense of this decade?

I have to nominate 06 Va Tech, 05 Bama, 03 LSU, 04 Bama/Auburn/Va Tech

I'd say 05 Bama FTW

Yeah not trying to sound like a Bama Homer, but that 05 defense ranks with the best of the last decade. Maybe even of the centuary...seriously...not trying to be a homer. :D

Dang, I didn't know winning the Iron Bowl was like winning a NC now. I guess if you can't win the NC, its just as good to beat someone who has. :D

Nice...I know you'd never intentionally compliment UGA, but the same 06 Va Tech defense is the one our freshman QB led a 2nd half comeback to beat. Thanks!

Before we have an outright breakout of incest between the two Alabama fanbases, when one applies the Universal Constant-Strength of Schedule, Georgia is the head and shoulders Defensive Juggernaut of the SEC.

Didn't Auburn have 28 points by the mid 2nd quarter against that defense, and 21 in the first?

EDIT: After some research...I'm not trying to dis Bama's D from '05, they were very good, but the "best defense in the last century" doesn't do this in their biggest game of the year.

Scoring Summary
1st Quarter
10:05 Auburn: TD, B Obomanu 7 YD PASS FROM B Cox (J Vaughn KICK)
7:24 Auburn: TD, K Irons 8 YD RUN (J Vaughn KICK)
4:01 Auburn: TD, B Obomanu 45 YD RUN (J Vaughn KICK)

I've accepted the iron bowl losses, which are basically pretty easy...because its just one game per season. Now when it comes to winning NC's, denial..thy name is Auburn.

Ok, I admit...I've been really busy lately, but how in the world is Muschamp leaving Auburn for the DC job at Texas? What happened there??? Any Auburn fans willing to shed some light on this thing?

There's no getting through to you guys. The point was that you don't win Championships and in your pitiful eyes, the Iron Bowl is your personal championship. Yeah we lost 6 in a row...but who gives a flying fudge? I'm not losing sleep over it and I'm still pretty damn happy on where the program is heading.

yeah, I read that, and that's why I posted...

Same money, and he's claiming it's not a stepping-stone job to being a HC. So, what happened? Did the administration or Tubbs and Musch have some sort of falling out? Why uproot your family for the same job with the same money to coach in an inferior conference?

Doesn't make sense to me.

TigerEyes1914

Apparently he felt that the higher-ups weren't on the same page as the football staff as far as moving the program forward and he saw a program that was better suited for him. I guess that whole 'contract issue' excuse he used at that time was just a distraction. As far as I have heard, there are no hard feelings between he and CTT though.

Austin, Texas > Allbarn. And it ain't close. Quality of life considerations as well as seeing that the previous DC within two years had his own gig would be too. Remember, they left Miami for Auburn, culture shock to say the least. While Austin isn't Miami, it is leaps and bounds preferable to Auburn.

TigerEyes1914

Guess that all depends on your version of quality of life. If you want a big city type experience complete with big city traffic, crime, and cost of living then Miami or Austin is definately preferable to Auburn.

Tider27,

We went through the league undefeated and still didn't get a shot at what you claim should be our goal.

Then I look at a two loss team playing and winning it this year. Unless another opportunity presents itself to us. I guess we'll just have to take heart in beating you each and every year.

It's not the best feeling but third best ain't to bad......

It might be some of that. However, by going to Texas Muscamp will be more or less have total control of that side of the ball for the first time since he became a DC. You have to remember that his previous 2 bosses (Saban and Tubbs) were basically de facto DCs, and thus exercised total veto power over anything Will wanted to do. OTOH, Mack Brown is the Reagan of college football coaches, i.e., a hands off style. My perception is that he doesn't do a lot of coaching himself. Instead he hires good staff and lets them do their thing with very little interference. Also, it seems Mack likes guys with UGA ties. He has a bunch of them on his staff.

So are you Cow college fans gonna name a better defense this decade? Or are you gonna brag about 28pts in a bad game (which isnt a lot), where the offense couldn't stay on the field whatsoever. If that D had even this year's Bama O, they may have won a title.

I disagree with you on this one. I bleed red and black but LSU has a stifleing D that puts serious pressure on offenses with blitz, blitz, and more blitz. I really feel LSU's D won them their NC this year. Georgia is very good but we don't get that constant pressure on the QB like LSU does on a consistant basis.

Sorry fellow Dawg but with you are incorrect...

LSU didn't sack the QB as you seem to believe. The true beauty of the LSU D this past season was its ability to shut down the opposition when they needed to. No D today can be stifling on every down but the LSU unit denied opponents much of anything in the way of yardage after contact. The Tigers tackled very well and rarely missed assignments. Fact is, LSU didn't blitz but relied upon its Front 4 to generate pressure just as UGA did. Re-watch the games and you'll see for yourself.

yeah...the problem with pelini was his resistance to blitz. he did occassionaly but no where near the defenses of muschamp and saban. personally, i'm glad he's gone.
