Yeah, he'll be a good one in 09, but they have 0 this year.

Next year will pretty much be a rebuilding year anyways. I think it is better for the Hogs not to have him next year as why waste one of his three years on a team that will not challenge for the conference title. Congrats on the pick up.

Mallet should be a big help in '08 regardless of eligibility. Having a QB around that has even the expereience that he does, and understands the new style of offense, at the collegiate level, better than any other on the team should prove a huge asset.

He'll be able to help the Petrinos install and instill the new system during the pre-season and tweak as they go. We've got 4 capable quarterbacks, just unproven and green. Hopefully he can mentor a bit.

Glad he was able to make the move:happy:

I agree. If Arkansas can make it to a bowl, Petrino should be SEC coach of the year. Some serious talent at QB and receiver coming in but they will most likely be to young to make an impact at receiver next year.

That is a good point. Even though, he will probably have to wait until his second year of eligibility to do that anyway as the 09 schedule is tougher than the 08 schedule. I think that the two will level each other out (talent/schedule) until 2010. The could surprise me, but I'm sure they will be "re-building" for the next two years. They lack too much on defense to get through that schedule alive.

I agree. If Arkansas can make it to a bowl, Petrino should be SEC coach of the year.

It only takes 6 wins to get to a bowl. It will take a more wins than that to get coach of the year unless its Ole Miss or Vandy.

That's what I figured would happen. Congrats, hogs. Huge pick up.

I know that aTm and tennessee both were "in the running" but I think that was more wishful thinking on ESpin's part than actual reality of the situation. ESPiN HATES Arkansas. I'm not joking, any time there is a story regarding Arkansas they find a way to spin it into a negative light. It is more than just fans being fans. I wasn't a big believer in this conspiracy.... but it is too much to ignore.

No but I do believe that Tennessee paid the officials to coat the ball in butter and cooking grease before Clint Stoerner fumbled....

BSPN really does suck. I saw how they made a huge deal and one of the top stories of the day when a 2-3 star DB uncommitted, but Petrino pulls in a 5 star QB that's already played extremely well as a Freshman @ a school like Michigan, and I saw them give it a 2 second mention while Sportscenter was heading off the air. And they didn't even say Petrino's name in order to vindicate him a bit. They're so full of sh*t

That was Fulmer getting his hands on the ball before they spotted it.

Hate to be a wet blanket but Mallet didn't show me much to get excited about in the games he played for UM this year. He is very awkward and uncoordinated looking when he runs and his delivery takes about a day and a half.

The poor decisions (throwing into coverage, waiting too long to get rid of it, throwing a touch pass when he should have thrown a dart, etc) I'm sure are due to his being a freshman & those things can be coached out of him during his transfer year. He is better than anything Arkansas has so it's a good get regardless but I need to see more of what made him such a highly touted recruit coming out of HS.

Sorry to Arky fans if it sounds like I'm bashing the kid but I live up here (thus, forced to watch just about ever UM game) and I didn't see a whole lot but then, he was just a FR. Good luck with him, if anyone can get him to improve it's Petrino; I don't care what he did in Atlanta.

He was 3-0 as a starter at Michigan. He was an absolute stud at the Army all-american HS game and he did as good if not better than any true freshman that I have seen start. Stafford was god awful for most of the year last year but drastically improved towards the end and was pretty salty this year. Mallett, IMO, looked better than Stafford or Mustain in his first 3 games as a true fresh. I think he will be a stud.

I think you are correct. But what do I know, I'm about as big a homer as they come.

None of us will know for sure until he actually plays. Two things are for certain - he'll be able to see over the line, and he'll have plenty of time to get it to his recievers. Arkansas, as usual, has a monster OL.

While I think Mallett is a great passing QB, he will be in serious trouble playing in the SEC IMHO. The kid moves about as fast as a glacier and got lit up by the blitzing defenses in the 5 or 6 games that he started this past year for Henne. Mallett is 6'7" and can throw passes over the tallest defender but if the SEC theory on how their defensive fronts are the fastest in the nation is true, he'll be in serious poo poo if they can't protect him. In addition Arkansas just lost their RB tandom to the NFL draft so there won't be anyone to take the pressure off him with the running game especially with an inexperienced RB.

For a team that doesn't have a solid OL year in and year out mobility would be a concern. But Arkansas is nearly always loaded with BIG offensive linemen who can keep the pocket secure. Arkansas almost always ranks at the top in terms of fewest sacks allowed in the conference. At any rate, he is better than the short bus rider we have a QB now. Kid folds like a lawn chair when his no.1 guy isn't open.

I don't know what to think of Mallett. The little I saw him play was when Michigan was stumbling all over themselves early in the year. So I've got no grasp of the guy's ability. But I watched maybe 15 plays of Michigan football at all this year.

Though I don't buy Killernut'sstatement that he won't have anyone to take the pressure off. Unless incoming De'anthony Curtis is a flop, UA should be good at the running back spot—as he'll have a year under his belt. What we don't seem to have is a power back. But there's a year to sort that out. Barnett, Smith and Curtis are all like greased lightning, but are diminutive.

I agree with Killernut on whether we'll have a solid O-line or not. Arkansas has been pumping out NFL lineman for a few years now. I wonder if that trend will continue? I like the lowest sack statement by red powerade, but then again, we don't drop back too often. lol

It's not all about the athlete some times, it's about the message. And the message here is, "Kiss My Razorback Red Arse Shawn Fallsbury"!!! You bench warming SOB, no thanks to you with your plea to young athletes across America, to boycott Arkansas Football due to a hire of a coach who won't be around next week, you have prove once again loser, no body cares for you BSPN opinion. Now keep your piehole shut, it's basketball season. And that too is something you know very little about.
