I don't have a lot of hobbies.... but one of my favorite things to do when I get some time to get away is Scuba Dive. Nothing makes me happier than suiting up and blowing bubbles, whether its in the Bahamas or in the dark murky waters of Lake Lanier (true story, I've dove Lanier in January when the surface temp was 34* and the water temp at depth was 42*). In fact I'm sure for spring break I'll be looking to log some bottom time, as its getting to be that time of year.

Anyone else here an aquanut?

I'm certified. Haven't been in a couple of years though.

I've been diving for many years but since my daughter was born (she's 10), I've only been a few times. My last dive was in Bermuda a couple years ago. One of my best experiences was in Grand Cayman where, at the time, you could see the bottom from the dive boat at 110 feet! My worst experience was wreck diving about 35 miles off the SC coast. I came up out of the wreck into a school of jelly fish at 80 feet. One of them drifted into my regulator as I turned and wrapped itself around it. First impulse ruled and I took out my reg trying to clear the tentacles from my mouth (I said tentacles). Of course, that didn't help and I had to breath, so I had to consciously replace the reg knowing it was going to sting like crazy until I could re-surface. I got something like 35 stings and looked like a leper for about 2 weeks.

It's a great sport and not as dangerous as people think, so long as you don't panic and know what to do in case of a problem. I think most of the people that get in trouble would have been fine if they had the proper training and didn't freak out. Now, cave diving? That's for people with a death wish, IMO.

I'm not certified, but the rest of the fam is, and I worked at Diver's Supply for awhile when I was younger. I love snorkling and the ocean.

Dude if I had the money... I'd be all over Cave diving. I did a cavern at morrison spring in Florida... and it was one of the coolest things ever. I can't even imagine how cool full out caves would be. But the equipment and training is all extremely expensive, so, thats out.

I've done caverns before in northern Florida (Bradenton?) and it is awesome. I knew some cave divers that used to go to Florida, schlub their equipment through knee deep water for about a mile to a small hole. You got it. That small hole dropped about 20 feet, just big enough to get to the cave system. Pitch black (so you'd better have about 3 flashlights) and you'd better have your buoyancy perfect or the silt can make lights useless. Also, you can't forget your trailing line cause cave tunnels split off in every which direction. I can't get over the story of the guy that got lost in one of those caves. When they found him, he had scratched an apology to his parents, on one of his oxygen tanks, for the pain they would go through finding out he had died. I believe cave diving is listed as one of the top 2 most dangerous sports you can do. (I think the other one is Russian Roulette ).

That is where is I live. I am not a scuba diver, though. I have been snorkeling a million times in the keys, but never been certified to scuba dive.

Oh there's no doubt cave diving is a good way to get yourself drowned. But I'm an adrenaline junkie like that.

I know that somewhere around Bradenton, there are caverns in the Head Springs of some (hard to spell) river. I'm not sure about the cave situation, since I don't cave dive. I'm pretty sure Florida has cave diving.
