2009 BCS Odds

Once again, the USC Trojans have been tabbed as the preseason favorite heading into an upcoming college football campaign. Here are some general odds for the top contenders that can be found at a variety of offshore books for the 2009 BCS Championship:

USC (3/1): The Trojans will have plenty of incoming and returning talent to work with again in 2008. The key issue heading into spring practice will be a battle for the starting QB spot between 2007 backup Mark Sanchez and Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain. The non-conference slate includes a September showdown at home against Ohio State with road contests against Virginia and Utah.

Florida (6/1): The return of Heisman winner Tim Tebow fuels title hopes for the Gators. A strong recruiting class should boost a talented club as well. The schedule is manageable as LSU will come to Gainesville in 2007. The annual showdown with Georgia in Jacksonville could be a battle of unbeaten clubs on November 1st.

Oklahoma (8/1): With QB Sam Bradford coming off of an outstanding freshman season, the Sooners should be poised for a title run. Missouri comes off the schedule in 2008 and Kansas will have to travel to Norman. The "Red River Shootout" on October 11th against Texas will answer a lot of questions.

Georgia (10/1): The QB-RB duo of Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno gives Georgia plenty of hope in 2008 after a strong finish to the 2007 season. However, the schedule could derail the Bulldogs. Road games against South Carolina, Arizona State, LSU, and Auburn are on the slate in addition to the neutral site tilt against the Gators.

Texas (12/1): With seven straight 10+ win campaigns, the Longhorns figure to be in the hunt again in 2008. The conference slate becomes more difficult as Missouri and Kansas come onto the schedule in 2008.

LSU (12/1): The Tigers will reload again in 2008. Ryan Perrilloux will try to take the staring QB reigns heading into his junior season. Road games against Florida and Auburn may doom LSU's hopes of a repeat.

Ohio State (12/1): The Buckeyes will try to get back to the title game for the third year in a row. In addition to the visit to USC, Ohio State will also have to face Wisconsin and Illinois on the road.

Virginia Tech (15/1): The Hokies can't be counted out after four straight 10+ win seasons.

West Virginia (16/1): While the departure of coach Rich Rodriguez raises some concerns, the expected return of QB Pat White and RB Steve Slaton for their senior seasons renews hopes for another BCS run. A September home game against Auburn should provide some early answers for the Mountaineers.

I'd love to see an SEC team play USCw in a BCS bowl game. I think that'd be an amazing game.

+1 and i think those odds for WVU should drop since Slaton has delcared for the draft.

I'm having trouble believing that there are vegas odds for the 2008 national champion already.

Yeah, they're commenting on our talented incoming class, and it's not even full yet. I mean, the guys we have verbals from are talented, but there's still more spots to fill, and you never know if the guys you get verbals from are going to sign their LOI. Of course, it's Vegas, too, and I'm sure you could bet on just about anything at any time.

Those odds were actually from off-shore casinos but if you went to any sports' book in Vegas today and wanted to bet on a particular team there would be someday in house that would give you odds and take your money.

They'll hardly miss a beat with Devine filling in, but still a good point.
