His platform is immaterial to his voters.
-Democrats mean to raise taxes, increase entitlements, increase government control of everything, and blend our country in with Europe, where the UN gets the final word and America doesn't lead but follows a world opinion. Any Democrat will do.
-Being a conservative myself, I'm just as tunnel-visioned. I'll vote for any of the republican candidates, although I'll hold my nose when I vote, if it's McCain. I'd like to see Mitt Romney get it, but who knows at this point?
-African Americans are ready to have their interests front and center in the White House and probably believe a Black President will be able to right many of the wrongs that have prevented them from prosperity. Many of Obama's voters are like a huge OJ jury. Nothing could stop them from voting for him, even if he stated his intentions to be sworn in on the koran, and invite Osama Bin Laden to the inauguration to get a full pardon.

A vintage conservative Southerner who would never vote for an African-American. Have you looked at Obama's economic policy? He wants to cut taxes for the middle/working class and increase taxes for the richest 1%. An average american pays more in social security everyyear than someone like Warren Buffett. He wants the upper class to put more into the social security. He wants to cut the taxes for corporations, so they stay in America and keep the jobs here. He wants to give tax credits for the companies that decided to stay here, again keeping the jobs here. Unlike the Bush Adminstration, he does not have to give tax breaks to companies that go overseas and give their jobs there.

Your first point can be applied to Mitt. McCain, Mitt and Huckabee are all Democrats politically. It seems most of these guys want big spending.
I disagree about the black vote. I think 90% of it's almost between Clinton and Obama. The other 10% are true conservatives and many of them support Paul or McCain. I think the black vote is up for grabs.
SCfan, If our country was run like a business it would have to balance the budget. The problem is we are run live a government. Just print cash citizens be damned. The dollar is dying since we haven't run it like a business.

Agree with most of what you say. I agree that printing money we don't have is the biggest problem, no doubt. That is what is causing the dollar to lose its value. But on this issue, I'll listen to the opinion of the top accountant in the country. This man was appointed by I think the first Bush and has carried over into this Bush and probably will be our accountant until he lives or retires. He said exactly what you said about printing money we don't have. He thinks that if we run our budget like a corporations though, we'll be in worse shape because if that is the case than our deficit would be vastly larger than what it is today. Some parts of our economy might run better if it's run like an corporation but no all of it.
Also agree with the black vote. More blacks like Clinton because of what her husband did for them. As for Obama, they realize that this might be the first African-American guy that can actually win. Whites, blacks, asians, hispanics - they all like him and they see that as an opportunity. Obama was noted as one of the top 10 influential people in the world back in 2002, and I think it will come true.

Actually if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that a vintage Southerner would always vote DEMOCRAT regardless of who it was. The only reason that Southern states have leaned toward the REpublicans in the last couple of elections is because Democrats have completely abandoned their traditional platform and become so extremely leftist that even the most die-hard southern democrats have trouble voting for them.

This is absolute bullcrap, and just shows that you are a bigot. Huckabee doesn't make an issue out of his faith, the media does. When asked about his beliefs, Huckabee always has answered that his religious beliefs shouldn't factor in when deciding if he is the right candidate. The fact that you refer to him as a "douche" because he is a Christian just shows your extreme prejudice against Christians. Get over it. Sickens me that you would vote for a guy who refuses to salute our flag before you voted for a man who prays to the Christian God.

You can ask Warren Buffett himself. He said that in an interview on MSNBC to Becky Quick.
I don't hate Christians first of all. All of friends are christians and I respect the faith and their opinions. I agree that I was extremely harsh on that fact. I'm not referring him as a douche because he is a christian, it is because I can't stand half of what he says. His idea of taking out a the IRS is a bit out there. I have actually talked to the guy and I just flat out don't like him.
DDD, there are many people that don't put their hand on their heart during national anthem etc. It's not right to point out one single person. A lot of people do the same exact thing.

You're right, lots of people have no respect for our country, the sacrifices made by hundreds of thousands of men who serve in defense of our country or the hundreds of thousands who have died in defense of it. And you know what? None of those people are fit to run this country.

I won't go as far as saying if they don't do that, then they don't respect our country. People have different ways to pay respect to the men and women who risk their lives and those who have died for our country. When you go to a game, and they sing the national anthem, does every single person around you put their hand on their heart? If yes, then people in Georgia are special cause quite honestly I haven't seen it in Columbia or Charlotte. I go to USC and Panthers game and there are people who choose to hold their hands in front or behind them. It's just a different way to pay respect.

Bullshit. If you don't put your hand over your heart for the singing of the National Anthem, then there's something wrong with you. Simply lifting your hand to your heart is all that is required to pay respect to our fallen heroes that have stood for our right to live in freedom and prosperity. There are no "different ways" to pay respect, either you RESPECT it, or you don't. A simple gesture is all that is required, and if you can't do that, you are an extremely ungrateful and self-centered asshole.
And no, I've never been to a sporting event in Georgia where I saw somebody NOT have their hats off and hands on their heart for the national anthem. It's called patriotism, and we're kind of big on that down here.

Definately. I haven't seen anyone not put take their hats off and put their hands on their hearts. Except maybe children . . . and even then they take their hats off. It's to pay respect to those who give them the freedom they have. If they don't pay their respects, however way they like to, they don't deserve that freedom.

Hey genious, I didn't say that I don't do that. I've seen many people who don't. I take my hat off and put my hand over my heart when the national anthem is sung whereever I go. I have been to many sports events where people simply take their hats off and hold their hands behind them or whatever. Personally, I don't think we're in any position to say that that person is unpatriotic because quite frankly neither I nor you knows the people who don't. Heck they could even be a family member of someone who has died and fought for this country. I just don't think that you can judge people by their action in that way. You have your own opinion and others have their own. So lets just put this aside.

I'm not sure what in my message gave you the urge to make these (bolded) statements in your response. I didn't say anything about not voting for Obama because he is an A-A. And I did not endorse Huckabee either? As far as your other statements, I won't argue that a Republican has spent more on entitlements since the New Deal. But I seriously doubt any democrat can get elected with a platform of tax cuts and we've all heard the rhetoric before how they're only talking about the "rich." The rich to a democrat is anyone that pays federal income taxes, which is getting close to less than 50 percent of the population. I hope you're right, 'cause I suspect Obama will get the nomination and a democrat will more than likely win this time around.
As for the black vote going for Clinton and Obama evenly, I'll wait and see. We haven't seen a caucus or a primary in a heavily populated African American population yet. Michigan will give us an idea, but South Carolina will offer a lot of insight into this question since almost half of the registered democrats in this state are black. We'll see if they split for the two.

Unfortunately, most of the blacks who vote for Obama will do so out of racial considerations rather than out of an intelligent look at the candidates running. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the majority of black voters run like mice after the candidate or the issue or the cause espoused by their racial leanings.
Oprah has embraced Obama not because of his intellect or experience or leadership background, or even his Chicagoland nature. She has embraced Obama because he is, like she, an American of African heritage.

I did not bold out any statements from your previous coments. Also, I disagree with the whole thing about Democracts think anyone who pays federal income taxes is rich. Most of the candidates when they say rich generally talk about the Top 1% of income earners or those who make more than $300,000. Truly, I think Obama and McCain are more Independents. Obama works for both parties in that he wants to give tax cuts where tax cuts are deserved (middle class) and give increases where they are needed (upper class). If you've actually looked into his policies or have heard him or his economic advisor talk about their policies, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. He's the only candidate that actaully wants to outlaw predatory lending which is causing all this subprime mortgage crap.
I think you're right in that we will know more about the black vote after January 26th. The Clinton's are loved by everyone in the black community. Bill Clinton is even in the A-A museum as a honorary or whatever in Arkansas. It will be hard for Obama to get blacks onto his bandwagon.

Why is everyone seemingly so eager to make more of it without more info, though??
This picture means nothing IMO and is very likely photoshopped simply to serve some other jack-a$$' personal interests. "Predatory Lenders" are lenders breaking the law.....in other words what they do has ALWAYS been illegal and it is not what is causing this "subprime crap"
Idiots getting adjustable rate mortgages for the simple reason that the lower rate allows the borrower to live waaaaaaaaaay beyond their means ...or hell beyond their good sense, is the reason for this subprime fallout..............and the Dems wanna bail these fools out w/MY TAX MONEY.......there has to be some social responsibility learned in the subprime fiasco, not a gov't bailout which perpetuates the thought "its someone else's fault not mine so wheres my check"?

Why is everyone seemingly so eager to make more of it without more info, though??
This picture means nothing IMO and is very likely photoshopped simply to serve some other jack-a$$' personal interests. The bottom line for me is that if this REALLY happened, this would be the top story on every news network nation wide and the opponents would be blasting him every chance they get for it!! It's garbage...nothing more, nothing less!!

I didn't say you DID bold out any statements. I bolded the statements that you made in your response to my post, which is still in question, IMO. I'm not picking on you and don't mean to single you out, but most people that think democrats believe the "rich" are the top 1% haven't lived and followed very many elections. My original post describes, very reasonably I think, the democrats general platform. To say that Bush's tax cuts was bad for our economy, which all democrats do, proves my point. The tax cuts were aimed at and helped all Federal Income Tax payers, not just the top 1%. Those are the tax cuts that all the democrat candidates want to eliminate. That's hardly cutting taxes for the middle class and shifting it to the top 1%. They also want to increase the top marginal rate of incomes over $150,000 (which is more like the top 15%). Before Reagan, that rate was about 65% thanks to that idiot Carter. And it resulted in one of our worst recessions since the Great Depression. Our tax revenues have always gone up after a tax break and that's what improves our economy. The idea that giving the government the decision what to do with our GNP has always failed. Except to those that don't know anything about economics and are only looking for a hand-out or those that are still brain-washed by the mass media and organized education system.
As far as Warren Buffet, he made his billions from buying up small to medium sized family-owned businesses that had to be sold to pay the death tax. Which, not surprisingly, he continues to support and wants even more taxes to be levied. I'd call anything he says on taxes to be a slight conflict of interest. More taxes on estates means he gets richer. In my mind, the estate tax is double taxation and patently unfair to those that are already "paying their fair share." Meanwhile, farms and businesses are sold to corporations like Buffet's to pay the 50% estate tax. He then pulls a classic from the movie "Wall Street" and cuts it up for his profit. But Buffet knows that the vast majority of Americans don't have a clue and somehow thinks he's some kind of philanthropist. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Also, he and Bill Gates are lauded for setting up a multi-billion dollar trust for "cause de jour." What they don't tell you is that those kinds of trusts are huge tax shelters. Some of those charitable trusts allow the trustees to draw up to 10% off the trust Tax Free! If they and those like them are so disgusted by "so little taxes," then why do they even claim deductions, or work the system, or hire tax attorneys, or set-up trusts? It all looks good in a headline and they know it.

I disagree about the black vote. I think 90% of it's almost between Clinton and Obama. The other 10% are true conservatives and many of them support Paul or McCain. I think the black vote is up for grabs.

In his speeches and often on the Internet, the part of Sen. Barack Obama (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/o000167/)'s biography that gets the most attention is not his race but his connections to the Muslim world.
"The day I'm inaugurated, I think this country looks at itself differently, but the world also looks at America differently," he told another Iowa crowd. "Because I've got a grandmother who lives in a little village in Africa (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Africa?tid=informline) without running water or electricity; because I grew up for part of my formative years in Southeast Asia (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Southeast+Asia?tid=informline) in the largest Muslim country on Earth."
I don't want a president who may have more allegiance to his grandmother's country (Kenya) than the U.S.A. and who may make international diplomatic decisions based on such biased views. And I especially don't want a president who spent his formative years immersed in Islam.
Check this endorsement from one of America's top Muslims:
"It's good for America to have a president who has diversity at many levels in his background. That would be a benefit in reaching out to the rest of the world, particularly the Islamic world," said Ibrahim Hooper, communications director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington-based civil rights and advocacy group for Muslims.

A lot of people do the same exact thing.
do you expect the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES to do this? what message is this sending to the world? Many people don't salute the flag when the national anthem is playing, but i only know of 1 who's running for president. I've also heard he will not say the pledge of allegiance to to the flag. We expect immigrants to pledge to the US flag when they're being naturalized, but the president won't?

At any rate, I think that the best (and most patriotic) thing to do is to gather information about Obama and his practices regarding the pledge and the singing of our national anthem before making judgments. Volinhtown and Aza raised questions, but most others made huge assumptions based on a photograph without any context whatsoever. If it is proven that he doesn't show proper respect for our country, then I promise to happily join in the bashing. We all know that between now and November, they'll be a hell of a lot of misinformation coming from both sides of the aisle. Here's my thoughts on it.
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/Supertryp/Cornflakes.jpg
Party affiliation is simply a facade that serves only to fool the uneducated lemmings into thinking their candidate is somehow "different". Such is not the case. While the parties vary greatly in what they say, they remain nearly indistinguishable in their actions or lack thereof. There are a few exceptions who hold to their values, but those few are too few to make any changes of substance. The rest are merely power hungry, ego maniacs that only care about their constituents during election time.
Frankly, I sick of the insipid and impotent drivel that these candidates defecate out their mouth and expect us to not only believe it, but to eat it with a smile. The sad part is that the vast majority do just that.

From the U. S. Flag Code:
Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem— (1) when the flag is displayed— (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and
(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Geaux, I'm sure you remember your Shakespeare. This has to remind you of Lear's ill-fated love test. Talk about dumbing something down. This is as bad as it gets. You love the country more than me because you put your hand over your heart more often during the national anthem than I do? Even when the communication director of the Maryland Historical Society says that you pay your "respect in this day and age with your demeanor" and not necessarily by strict adherence to an outdated law? Obama made an error. It was political instead of patriotic though.
The result is that all these patriotic gestures are becoming hollow, something that politicans have to remember to do every time to keep from pissing off the masses. Like saying God bless America, almost by rote, at the end of every speech. It doesn't make that politican any holier than the one who forgets or chooses not to say it.
This is typical and it is lazy. It appeals to a need to sum up our foes in a few easy, but strong words like unpatriotic or ungodly. We end up fussing about who stood the most erect, or had hand over heart, or said God bless America the most while ignoring important issues. Whether you vote for him or not, this smear campaign against OBama and the generally devisive tone of politics is to our detriment. But, it works. In my opinion, that's the worst part of all.
