View Full Version : Shk999's Song of the day

Inspired by "Puddin's song of the day" from another site. Sabo, PT and I had some fun with it. Basically I share a song that I think kicks ass for your enjoyment (or lack of) and you guys feel free to comment on how bad my music taste sucks.
PT, Sabo, feel free to post some songs too.
First song
Lets kick this off with something with an original sound. The always entertaining Les Claypool and co. This song is sure to cheer you up on a dreary day.

I saw Muse at Lollapalooza this year. They rocked. Nothing like seeing an incredible show on the shores of Lake Michigan with the Chicago skyline as a backdrop. Hey when you guys are giving the song of the day how about giving the song name and the album. Cool thread.

Big Muse fan here. I wish more people were into them, Matt Bellamy is a great guitarist and gets too little credit imo.

I struggled with which song to post. Almost put up Knights of Cydonia. That is "Starlight" from Black Holes and Satellites. Awesome album.

The drummer is pretty incredible too. At the Chicago show he had about the biggest drum set I have ever seen. It completely surrounded him.

It is hard to pick a favorite Muse song but a few of mine are:
Stockholm Syndrome

Assassin
Hysteria
I agree, the drummer has really stepped up his playing as the band has progressed. Check out some of their older stuff if you haven't, Sab. Especially off of Origin of Symmetry and Absolution.

While on we're on the acoustic note... here's a good one by, I think, the greatest rock vocalist in modern metal. I mean, c'mon... who else besides Corey Taylor can front for a band like Slipknot, turn around and do some soft stuff for Stone Sour, and pretty much everything in between.

Yeah I moved here last Summer, and I absolutely love it. I haven't eaten at Weaver D's though... I know where it is though. Just a little hole-in-the-wall place. As I understand it, REM filmed one of their music video's there though.... how's the eats there?

Ill put it this way, if you dont get there early, he sells out. His slogan is "Automatic for the people" which is also the title of one of REM's albums. Man, I miss that place, downtown on the weekends, all the great food and live shows. The 5 Star Deli is also a great place to eat.

Truly incredible. I had a cousin that was a teenager when I was a kid and he lived with us so he was actually more like a big brother. He was really cool and he turned me on to some great music at an early age. I was the only kid in 1st grade that knew who Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd were. I remember the very first time I heard Pink Floyd, it was "Another Brick in the Wall" and I was hooked, been a fan every since.

Me and my family moved in our apartment complex. A gate with the serial code was put up next. They claim that this community is so drug free, but it don't look that way to me. Cause I can see the young bloods hanging out at the store. 24/7 junkies looking got a hit of the blow, it's powerful.

Effin A. I saw Victor w/his brothers up in Covington....freaking phenomenal.
They had a guest drummer...some math teacher from Atlanta....I could never remember his name....but this cat was doing double bass stuff w/a single pedal that I would expect to hear from Fear Factory's drummer......simply incredible.
My favorite drummer folks, as a bass player, is Chad Sexton. That man has the tightest (literally and the other meaning) snare sound....he's got solid groove but often subtley deviates.
Oh...duh...he's the drumer for 311....I dunno how many of you are really into them...but if you are....you know he's got some serious skills. Now obviously, he's not a prog rock drummer such as Danny or Neil, who are definitely great in their own ways. But as a bass player....you need different things out of your drummer...Chad's got that funk that I need as a bass player.
I could go on all day about other greats. Just wanted to throw my preference out there.
Anyway....I'm listening to "Cortez the Killer" by Neil Young

Yeah, that's a good ass song, I really like Hellyeah. Those boys are versatile too, they have some cool ass songs like "Alcoholin' and "Wouldnt know" and then Ive also heard stuff from them that is straight up, double bass, mosh pit, "Fear Factory" thrash metal. Good choice PT.
