I was reading this article today Yahoo! Personal Finance (http://biz.yahoo.com/brn/080104/24176.html?.v=1&.pf=insurance) and it reminded me of how naive we all once were and many continue to be. I remember when I bought my first New Car and how I refused to put anything but Supreme Unleaded in it because I wanted to take care of it. I remember actually getting mad at my wife for putting regular unleaded in it one time. Just goes to show how impressionable people really are and how willing we are to "buy into" crap that we really know nothing about, but seems to make sense.
I am disapointed, however, that the article doesn't come right out and say that you're essentially throwing your money away if you're wasting it on Super Unleaded gasoline. AND, does anyone else find this passage as being a little suspicious???.... Some manufacturers say that today's high-tech engines require higher-standard gasoline than the EPA benchmark. Audi, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen have worked with major gasoline companies to set a standard for what is known as Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. Let me interpret....big buisiness has found yet another way to f*ck the general public in the a$$ by preying on their ignorance. Things that make you want to :barf:
Thoughts??

Unless you're driving a car whose manufacturer specifically states that the car was desinged and built to run on super unleaded, you're just flushing money out your tailpipe. For the most part, I think only BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Astin Martin call for the sole use of super unleaded, desiels notwithstanding.
Mid grade is a waste of refining capacity. Any benefits in using it over regular are miniscule at best and could easily, and more cheaply, be attained thru the occasional use of an additive rather than consistantly using midgrade gasoline.
I never use anything but regular, if I wanted to flush the system, I'll add in a detergent or octaine booster once very few months.

Middle grade is the worst. It says that you are willing dip your toe in the water but your too afraid to dive in.
Its like being dared to steal a piece of chewing gum from the store, making it to the door, then feeling guilty and walking to the counter to pay for it.
The fact that you buy mid-grade could even reflect on you as a person. Perhaps you only half way commit to something or you are too afraid to go all out at times.
Perhaps it reflects your investing habits or even your love life.
If there is one thing that drives me crazy is a person who buys mid grade gas:brick: Either buy premium or regular! If not then walk or consider segway travel.

My dad had an 02 dodge dakoda that pinged when he put regular unleaded in it, and the mid-grade did just fine. Some engines are built to use the higher end gasolines.

Or you have a car that doesn't run its potential with low grade, and wants the mid grade. If the car runs bad on low grade and fine on mid grade, why go to high grade?
