So far we have seen some epic scoring battles in the early bowl contests. East Carolina, Purdue, and Texas have all thrown up over 40 points. Painter for Purdue threw for a zillion yards against Central Michigan. Does this trend of 40+ point totals continue or once we see the marquis teams will we finally see some defense?

I think we will see defense, and for the Cheese vrs Rocky top game I think it will be pretty low scores.

The scoring isn't a huge surprise, since teams often faces offenses that they haven't seen all year and aren't used to stopping.

I would be surprised if the BCS championship game is high scoring.

I would be surprised if the BCS championship game is high scoring.

If it is, I think that favors OSU.

With regards to the original question, I think it's a sign of the times. The number of dominant defenses in college football has been dwindling over recent years while the offenses are getting more and more complex. Having 5-6 weeks to prepare for a game I think also favors the offenses.

Unless it is the BCS national Championship or a BCS bowl in general, bowl games have lost a significant amount of importance to most programs. Your bowl record doesn't really mean that much anymore unless it is for National bragging rights. Conference titles are far more important. There are the exceptions, when non-conference rivals play one another etc... But the high scoring happens when the players don't want to get injured. There is always that extra whatever when it means something, and a lot of these bowls don't mean squat.

I expect the BCS games to be under to typical 60 line like most of these bowls. But, at least in this years National title game, I expect LSU to score.... a lot of points.

Finally got a little D in the Michigan St./Boston College champs bowl. Either that or bad offense.

I think everyone is running some version of spread offense now and it really limits what you can do putting pressure on the QB, you really have to have superior athletes on D to do it. That and college has always been higher scoring than NFL.
