View Full Version : Did McFadden trade Cotton Bowl for Escalade

Last week Darren McFadden could be seen driving a new Cadillac Escalade. Now, questions are being asked about how he got it. According to a compliance director from another University, if D-Mac received the car as a payment for future services, he is then a professional and no longer eligible for college football. That would mean no Cotton Bowl. If he simply went in and bought the car, got a loan like any other shopper, with a delayed payment plan, he is still within NCAA guidelines and would be eligible for the bowl game. Razorback fans have to be hoping it's the latter case.

Sports Information Director Kevin Trainor told us that the University is aware of the situation and that their compliance director is investigating.

All in all, what was DMac thinking? To go with an everyday Cadillac Escalade, over that sweet Crown Vic? Say it isn't so Darren, say it isn't so.

I've always wondered how a college kid could afford the Crown Vic he already had. The customization he has done to it cost thousands of dollars I'm sure .

You can get an old crown vic like that for 3k all day long. He might have 8k in accessories at the most. Thats 11k. You cant buy a ford focus for that. If he was driving a focus no one would say a thing. I wish DMAC would have waited a week or so but I know the first thing I bought when I got out of college was a new vehicle. DMAC is a good old country kid who didnt have anything growing up. I hope this turns out to be a legit purchase. The agent has already denied even talking to DMAC much less arranging a vehicle purchase. I am however worried about his estranged mom because she has had $$$ in her eyes since the 3rd game this year when she told a reporter that DMAC was going to turn pro. DMAC got pissed about it and told the media dont beleive anything unless you here it from him. DMAC doesnt have to prove anything else to razorback fans because everyone knows what a good kid he is. I just hope this vehicle doesnt hurt his national rep.

Well, maybe Felix Jones will have a chance even earlier than next year to prove he can be the featured back. That could be double bad news for the Hogs if he has a big game in McFadden's absence. It might prove to him and the NFL that he is ready.

Is there a link to this story or has this just come from "sources?" I looked and could not find anything.

There was a news station that reported it in Arkansas last night. Dont have a link. Supposedly they are backing off of it somewhat today. They have been known to jump the gun. They were the ones that said Tubberville had been hired so who knows.

I hope so. I am looking forward to seeing DMAC and Jones one more time together in a Razorback uniform.

He was probably just test driving one or was borrowing a friends car. It would be stupid to accept a car and go against NCAA rules. D-Mac knows better than that. Stupid press reporting a non story with no facts, I would change the channel.

Kind of make my Cotton Bowl tickets less attractive. Oh well, I hope they don't let him play. I don't want an NCAA investigation into the matter. I would think Petrino would override any decision. The current coaching staff probably wouldn't care one way or the other.

Regardless, what a boneheaded decision to do this less than a week before the Cotton Bowl. He is not enrolled in Spring classes according to another website. He obviously doesn't intend to stay in school (neither would I). Just couldn't wait on the Escalade.

Good luck in the NFL DMac. I'm afraid we won't see him in a Hog uniform again.

You could find a kid on any team in the SEC driving a car that's well outside his or his parents price range. It's strange that McFadden actually got turned in for it.

As long as he "purchased" the Escalade on a delayed payment plan...he'll be fine. Lebron James did the same thing...showed up at school during his SR year driving a Hummer. But he remained eligible because the dealership had a sales contract with him that allowed delayed payment.

LeBron James was a high school athlete. The NCAA couldn't touch him.

It still violated high school eligibility. GH was just drawing a parallel.

Where was this? Arkansas or Texas? Could have been a rental (hoping).

Though this bring up an interesting point. How is that any gift is scrutinized by the NCAA yet the players get gifts for playing in the bowl games and it's alright.

Ah the NCAA — the modern mafia.

Google Search (http://news.google.com/news?q=bowl+game+gifts&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=title)

I have heard the station has retracked the story. The car was actually purchase by his step mom and he borrowed it. Supposedly she has a very good job. I havent seen the link yet but I am looking.

Who cares? McFadden probably doesn't care if he plays in the Cotton bowl or not... he's going to be taken probably #1 or #2 in the draft... if anything, the Cotton bowl is a liability for him, if he gets hurt it could seriously hurt him in the draft. I'm sure that not getting to play in it is the least of his concerns right now.

Well, if he paid more than 10 cents for that rediculous looking ghetto- garbage ride, he got ripped off!! If people really want to look like a jack-a$$ that bad when they drive, a bumper sticker stating that would be a hell of a lot less expensive!!

These media outlets who jump the gun on rumors that damages young men lives should be held accountable. I think the FCC should fine the hell out of them. You would think an in state local station would have done it's homework just a bit better than what they did, before issuing this mistake.

I agree. Someone has to be held accountable.

In my opinion, it seems like the media in Arkansas is so involved with message boards now that they report or publish the crap they read on them not matter if they are based on fact or opinion.

I understand that it's a ratings war in today's world of news reporting, but some of the things we have seen lately is irresponsible journalism.

Yeah, so is Steve Spurrier. But that bastard had a heismen vote and that's how he got back at Darren. The Self centered jackass didn't even have him in his top three on his ballot. Spurrier can just die in my opinion. No great loss.

LMAO!! Look who's talking about bitterness! Is it any wonder that R-Kansas and LS-Who fans have posted these remarks?? What's Spurrier's career win-loss record against both programs? 15-4??

:rolling2::rolling2::rolling2::rolling2:

As to the topic: the day that the "press" became the "media", journalistic reporting lost all it's integrity, IMO. Very rarely do I ever see reporting anymore that's done with the sole intent of reporting the truth.....it's more an afterthought, nowadays, which is sad.....

And what would your point be?? You didn't refer to USC or UF, you referred to Spurrier. I'm talking about Spurrier. I did include SOS's record as USC's HC against both LSU and Arky in his totals, by the way. He's 14-1 as UF's HC, 1-3 as USC's HC. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him 3-3 after next season.....

I guess you made my point. You sir, are a HOMER. Spurrier could be drunk, driving home, lose control of his car, crashing into a family of five in a mini van coming home from church. And in the bastards defense, you would stand up for him by asking, 'What was that family doing on the highway that night".
Come on lacene, your better than that.

No, I wouldn't really do that, even if that actually ever happened. But I tell you, if I did, it would be about along the same lines as someone wishing another person WAS DEAD, simply because that person didn't vote for someone's favorite college football player for the fricking Heisman trophy.

Come on TD, you're exactly like that.

Not talking just about this DMac incident. We are talking about reporting rumors as fact that could be malicious to players or coaches without reporters doing any homework to see if there is any truth to them before broadcasting them through their media outlets.

Lately the Arkansas media is having a hard time with showing any credibility.
In those cases someone should be held accountable.

well, don't let it eat you up inside. Find a hobby away from football: take up bird-watching, or quilting. Something productive that you'll have to show for your time later. Best advice I can give.
