I was wondering if any of y'all could tell me why UF didn't recruit Blair Walsh?

Who's Blair Walsh?:headscrat
Edit: because we already have Caleb Sturgis...he's bigger and is also a D1 punter.

He might be bigger but he isn't better, according to the rankings.

Yea...and the "rankings" also said Mitch Mustain was better than Stafford and Tebow... Rankings don't mean squat when it comes to kickers...IMO. We've signed 2 #1 kickers over the past 3 years and none have done squat. Wasted scholarships. Heck, the kicker that eventually signed with Auburn and beat us this past year was begging to be a Gator. Par for the course with kickers. Sturgis kicks for a Florida HS team that plays in one of the toughest divisions in the state and impressed Meyer...that's all I need.

I'll take it that means you never heard of him.

I meant it as a joke that we don't punt very much...
What difference does it make? He's not a punter:laugh:

Guess I don't know then haha, I saw somthing about punting? is he a kicker?
He's a fabulous kicker, supposedly the best in the country. Has great chance to be a starter as a freshman. It looks like UF didn't even make a try at him which is why I asked the original question.

I dont know I wish we would get a good kicker! our kicker sucks this year, he missed one this year vrs Auburn that could have helped us out...

We got a good kicker...Caleb Sturgis made a 51 yarder in the State Championship Game...the kid has a cannon-leg. He is also a touchback machine...only a couple of kicks returned last season. He routinely splits the uprights on kick-offs.
But...kickers are different than other players. If a guy can run the ball...is fast and shifty, a coach can teach him to be a better player. Kickers either have it or they don't. As I said...the Gators have signed 2 #1 kickers in the past few years and both suck. It's a guessing game...and Sturgis was our best "guess". After watching him, though...I think he's gonna be a great kicker. Heck, he's built like a LB and has tree-trunks for legs so if he don't work out as a kicker...we can suit him up on defense.:)

I think he only missed a couple of times. You should know that better than me. I think he's a senior however so I doubt he will be of help to you next season.

Accuracy, leg strength, etc. are important for kickers, but mental condition is probably more important...recruiters should develop some sort of personality test to determine whether or not to recruit a certain kicker...
On a side note, I believe when we were scouting Blair Walsh in Florida, we saw a defensive end (Jeremy Longo, off the top of my head) from the same HS and got him to committ.
