Ole Miss backup QB Herrick looking to transfer | clarionledger.com | The Clarion-Ledger (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071220/SPORTS/71220022)

Ole Miss quarterback Michael Herrick has been released from his scholarship and is looking to transfer, according to his mother, Marilyn Herrick.

Once thin at QB, now thinner. It looks like it's make or break with Snead.

I heard he was going to Hawaii a while back. Wish the best for him.

I do also. I wish he had stuck around though and competed for the job. He was really good in high school and may have been the first team quarterback. I know Snead is presumed to have it all wrapped up but that may have not been true. He didn't wrap up anything at Texas and ducked his head and came to Ole Miss. If Herrick had worked really hard and given his all, Snead may have ducked his head again. Now we appear to have the one shot, Snead. If he does well, Ole Miss may prosper, if not, who knows. Herrick should have stayed on. If he had it in him, Nutt would have played him. Any promises made to Snead by O are gone with him. Spring practice will determine who plays at all the positions. Anyone who thinks they have a position promised or owed to them may well be very surprised. Nutt will want his best players on the field and he is the guy who will decide now. I think a new style has come to Ole Miss, or an old one, the Vaught style. If you want to play, you have to work hard, show some fight, and earn it. Arkansas was a tough outfit to tangle with, as we discovered last season. I believe some of that will be seen this coming fall. I look forward to it.

I Had breakfast with Herrick and his father at bottletree after a game weekend. They were very nice people and I really am sad to hear he is going. Nutt has his work cut out from him...I say he makes a pass at one of the six Auburn quarterbacks on their depth chart/commit list and tries to wrap up another QB. I think Snead has a lot of potential but it kind of feels like putting all your eggs in one basket...a little reminiscent of Schaeffer.

Nutt will figure it out though I'm sure. It's gonna be rough coming up in the SEC the next couple of years...

I agree, we have got to bring in some talent to back up Snead, and maybe even play if he doesn't work out, but, we now have Nutt to do these things.

For the first time in three years I feel confident we are on the right path and that we will find success, maybe not the first season or so, but very soon. Nutt is a fine choice for rebuilding a program.

Well Nutt is already trying to bring in the #30 QB in the 2008 class in Norman Stanley out of Oklahoma. While Snead is the only QB with playing experience on the roster, I'd be more comfortable having Stanley and Wilkes getting reps instead of Tapp.
