I had to go out earlier today, and while driving I had the radio set to ESPN. A couple of guys were talking about the heismen race and they brought in Desmond Howard for his view points. the talk went from the Heismen show tonight, to Michigan's woes of hiring a coach.

I have always liked Howard's points of view from a player since joining ESPN, but he made a comment today that wasn't called for and if anything showed his true colors. When ask about why the problems of not naming a new head coach, Howard got on his soap box and started this rant.

He said, "Michigan isn't just another job. It's the winningest program in football. And we settle for nothing less but the best. We're not like Ole Miss, and hires Houston Nutt just hours after he leaves Arkansas, or Georgia Tech and settle for Navy's coach Paul Johnson. We are Michigan. We're better than that"

Who the Fudge does this little runt think he is? He knows nothing about Georgia Tech or the Ole Miss programs. Go back to Ann Arbor, sip on your imported water and nibble of your Brea cheese, then shut the hell up. ESPN can have his Munchkin ass. And he needs to stay the hell out of the SEC after that comment.

Pretty big talk from Howard considering the number of coaches who have told Michigan thanks but no thanks...

Well it's his Alma Mater, of course he's going to say that. But he didn't hide his bias either, he said "we are Michigan." At least he's not like Herbstreit who tries to shroud his big 10 homerism.

I don't think what he said was that bad, but it is a little rude to call out specific coaches for not being up to par with Michigan. He could have made his point without calling anyone specific out. Before it is over they may wish that Nutt was their coach.

Of course, Howard has never been short on arrogance. Anybody remember this?

Well....he's right. Michigan is Michigan and they shouldn't have to settle for anyone. Same thing I was saying when Kentucky was looking for a basketball coach. He's right...100%....if he is a Michigan fan. I have no freakin idea who he is.....I'm assuming he's an ex-Wolverine.

I remember, and in fact he talked about that very thing in this same program. When ask, he said. When I broke away on that punt return, and had only the punter to beat, I thought so I strike it, or should I not because Michigan is a class program and it's about being a team that celebrates and not individual accomplishments, but when I got into the endzone, I thought, what the hell"

I had never heard him admit that before until today.

You've actually shown how young you are. He was a Heisman winner when I was in college.

He did the pose BEFORE he won it. That's conceited... and he was one of the worst at that time.

I'm 24.....I'm sure there are guys on here younger than me who were familiar w/him. The difference is I care about sports in this order:
Basketball
Baseball
Football

Doesn't change the fact that what he said was right.....Michigan is Michigan. Period.

That pose was great. Oh, I forgot, college players should never show emotion. The award was a given when he scored that TD against the Buckeyes.
