The College Football Awards Show is on tonight at 7:30 ET on ESPN. They're giving away the Maxwell Award (Outstanding Player), Walter Camp Award (Oustanding Player), Bednarik Award (Defensive Player), Davey O'Brien Award (Top QB), and Doak Walker Award (Best RB). Good luck to all the SEC players. Here's hoping we clean up.

Sarcasm? All the awards tend to go to upperclassmen, including the Heisman, remember? I'm hoping Tebow's the guy that bucks the trend.

I think Tebow wins the Maxwell and the O'Brien. McFadden is the clear cut Doak Walker winner. And as for the Bendarik, I think it's down to either Glenn Dorsey or James Laurinaitis from Ohio State.

I agree, but think that Tebow will probably only get one of the 3 between the 2 for outstanding player and 1 for QB. DMac is a lock for the Doak. And, you're right about the Bednarik, too. Everything I've read and heard has those two battling for it; but, many have said Laurinaitis may have a better shot because Dorsey has already collected a couple awards. I don't know how the voting goes, though; and whether or not votes had to be submitted before people knew Dorsey had won those others.

Also, tell me why you guys in Kentucky also capitalize both letters of the word IN, and the the letter "C" in capitalize. Are you Kentuckians saying that the word "capitalize" is equally important as the word God, and that the word "in" is more important?

For a guy who is smug and calls people names for giving an opinion this post should mean a lot.

Give me a break. 75% of your posts are attacks on UF, Tebow, or their fans; including me. I call anybody stupid who constantly makes remarks without first checking to see if they're true... those aren't opinions, they're lies.

Jason White won all three...... He won the Heisman, then next year won Obrien and Maxwell when Matty of USC won the big award.

Yeah, I was just going to say the only one I'm aware of is Wuerffel; but of course, he'd be the only one I would be that familiar with. I'm sure between tonight and tomorrow, the major sports sites will be doing that research, and will write something about it.

Name the fact I left out..... 75% of my posts are about naked women on babe of the day if you want to know the truth. Or about limp wristed JPWilson or cracking on my team. Or how DevilDawg is smoking crack or defending Mark Gottfried or fighting that the PAC 10 is the #2 conference or the SEC plays weak OOC schedules.....nothing about UF. I have no hate or care about UF. Why would I care about UF when my team can't beat Monroe or MSU.

My family is from N. Alabama.... not the gulf. You have this weird thing where you see my name and think I hate UF. Remember MY FAVORITE SEC PLAYER IN THE LAST 5 YEARS IS A LOCAL BOY COREY BREWER! I have always said Tebow is the truth and the only way Shula would of saved his job. So get off my a$$ your only making yourself look like one.

Danny W. is the last to do it in the same year. White won all three in different years. He won the Davey O'Brien 2 times, Maxwell the year after Heisman (The year he won Heisman it went to Eli).

What does that have to do with anything? Is there a difference between N. Alabama and S. Alabama? If there is, it's a cultural thing I'm not familiar with, and have no clue why it would pertain to this. I see your name and it doesn't mean anything to me. In fact, I'm dating a Bama fan; and almost every other Bama fan on this site and every Gator fan on this site respect each other's program. You're the odd man out. You can claim that you don't bash us if you want; but, we all see you say negative things about Tebow and UF every day. Every time a thread is started, you have some smart-a$$ remark or something degrading to say about the kid. And, to try and further your point, you make blatantly false claims. Let's just say that gets tiresome; and, after enough of them, it starts to get personal. If you didn't single out the one person and program, it wouldn't be such a big deal; but, you can't feign ignorance at this point, and act like you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm only on your a$$ in the first place because I can barely make a comment without you wading into the conversation to make a snide remark... and it's never anything of substance to improve the debate.

I love Bama. I've worn a Bama t-shirt for every game this year, as long as it didn't conflict with a Gator game. My girlfriend's a Bama fan... one of my best friends is a Bama fan... and I get along with most of the other Bama fans on here. And, how does it make me look bad that you can't read the prior post asking if anyone had won all 3 awards IN THE SAME YEAR?

What false claim have I made...... You still won't post that. Are you refering to my claim that UT and UF allow lesser academic athletes in just like McFadden? Uh.... I posted a movie where a kid "suddenly" qualified at a top 50 university. Or was it my keeping up with the BCS non conference head to head with actual stats of Wins and Losses. Or are my opinions "false claims." Most of the things you disagree with me are opinion based not fact based.

As far as busting chops.... all teams have taken a ribbing from me. Even BAMA. Look at my post about Les Miles today. At least the Tiger fans understand it's in fun. Or the Auburn fans..... But, they know I am the Bama Fan who other Bama fans flame because I admit I fear their coach the most in the SEC. You guys are trying to take the crown for most sensative fans from us Bama fans..... YOU WON THE FREAKIN NATIONAL TITLE. YOU HAVE THE HEISMAN WINNER! Nut up and learn to joke around.

I figured there may be some panhandle rivalry down there. I don't get to the southern part of Bama much.

But here is your chance..... where did I not do research and posted out of my ass.

Some Bama fans might take issue with your talk about JPW being "limp-wristed". We might not always be thrilled with his play, but we are more determined to encourage him. If you are willing to diss your own QB this way, it makes one tend to wonder about your loyalties.

I will say I would vote for Tebow..... but it was hard saying DMAC didn't deserve it after that midget robbed it from him last year.

Well, I can agree that the man got robbed last year, for sure. I really guess it goes to show how spoiled we all are in the SEC; because Troy-boy put up great numbers against Big Ten teams, but he sure didn't look like a Heisman Award winner against the first SEC defense he faced. We're accustomed to great ball like that... tOSU had that look like deer in the headlights, and froze with nowhere to go.

I really don't think he ever got big enough to play in the NFL; and he may have actually been advised that it wasn't healthy. I know there was talk at that time about what kind of longevity he could expect in each sport. He was 6'2", but still never got bigger than 185lbs.. You can't play QB long in the NFL at that weight. I guess he could've been a DB or something, but I guess he figured his best chance was playing basketball. In the end, injuries in the NBA ended his career. Imagine how much shorter his career would have been playing football.

Seems size wasn't the big thing. More length of carrer. He would of been a 1st round QB if he wanted to play in the NFL:

Professional career
Upon graduation, Ward stated he was undecided about professional basketball or football and made it clear that he would not consider playing in the NFL unless selected in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft. Because teams did not want to waste a first round pick on a player that might eventually choose the NBA, Ward was not selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Instead of pursuing a career as a football player in the NFL, and having been chosen in the 1st round (26th overall) of the 1994 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, he began his career in the NBA as a point guard. An inquiry was made during Ward's rookie year with the Knicks to become the backup quarterback for Joe Montana of the Kansas City Chiefs, but Ward declined.

Ward played sparingly in his rookie year under head coach Pat Riley, but the Knicks organization referred to him as "the point guard of the future." When assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy took over the head coaching position, Ward's time on the floor began to increase, becoming the primary backup for point guard Derek Harper. During his NBA career, Ward established himself as a good three-point shooter, a reliable ball distributor, and a respected floor leader. Ward was selected to the participate in the 1998 NBA All-Star three-point competition, finishing fourth in the event. He soon helped the Knicks reach the 1999 NBA Finals, before falling to the San Antonio Spurs, that would become his next team in January 2004, after a trade-and-waive between the Knicks and the Phoenix Suns, that cut him the next day. After maintaining relatively good health over his first decade in the league, injuries caused Ward to miss most of the 2004-05 season, that he played for the Houston Rockets, and put his career in jeopardy. Because of the injuries, Ward retired.

Off the court, Ward is one of the NBA's best role models, as he is known for his extensive charitable work through groups like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He recently became the assistant varsity basketball coach at a prep school in Houston, the same town he last played in the NBA.

[edit] Controversy
In 2001, while a player for the New York Knicks, it was discovered that Charlie Ward had made some disparaging comments about Jews during a Bible-study session, comments that were eventually leaked to the press. Among the comments made: "Jews are stubborn... tell me, why did they persecute Jesus unless he knew something they didn’t want to accept... They had his blood on their hands."[1]

There was an expected amount of outrage directed at Ward from Jewish groups, as well as the Knicks organization and the public at large. Ward defended himself by indicating that "I didn't mean to offend any one group because that's not what I'm about. I have friends that are Jewish. Actually, my friend is a Jewish guy, and his name is Jesus Christ."[2] He also noted that the quotes were taken out of context, as he had stated that "Jews are stubborn" in speaking to what he perceived to be their disinclination to convert to Christianity.[3]

Eventually Charlie did apologize for his statements, with his apology being accepted by the Anti-Defamation League.[4]

He hates Jews? That's weird.
