It is just a dumb statment, and this is not a complete homerism statment just because of stuff said about Tebow but.......

My veiws about this are... every qb or at least 90 percent are system qb's to me there really isn't a all around qb and if there was Tebow would come the closest imo... but come on everyone is a system qb in a way its a wide open statment and it's kinda dumb, im sure some of you guy's have other opinons but this is mine and im sick of all this system qb bs

Ahhh...Get used to it. Its the only ammo some SEC teams have against. And its pretty weak at that. At least our QB's deliver for us right at here at UF...where it counts.

Well I think we've seen that it's somewhat true. Florida had a couple of "system" QB's under Spurrier.... Wuerffel and Grossman might have been great at UF, but we saw just how good they really were once they got to the NFL. Troy Smith was the same way, good in their system, not good enough for the NFL.

That said, I think Tebow is a great QB and will win the Heisman at Florida. I think he would do well in any "system" in college. I don't think he'll ever start in the NFL. Mobile NFL QB's are the fast ones... Tebow can get physical with defenses in college but if he played the way he does against NFL defenses he wouldn't last long. He might be like a Jared Lorenzen and come in as a backup.... but I don't think he's the type of QB that NFL teams want.

To follow that up; Colt Brennan might be what an NFL team wants... but the Heisman isn't about the best NFL prospect, it's about the best player in college football. And Colt Brennan is far from it.

i think he will be a good nfl qb. he reminds me of donovan mcnabb. ive said that b4. but as long as he gets the job done at UF...As with any college QB, thats all that matters

I think someone will for sure give Tebow a shot though...and he will mature into a drop back qb if he was givin a chance in pro's...but who knows

Oh I'm sure somebody will give him a chance... I'm just not sure he'll ever start.

Agreed... it's impossible to predict what he'll do in the pros, because he hasn't been asked to run a pro-style offense. I think he has the physical gifts, definitely the smarts, and the competitive nature and leadership skills to be good anywhere he wants. Nobody thought he could throw, either, until he started lighting everybody up. His passing stats will probably be even greater next year; since we'll have a good RB, and he won't be asked to beat himself up as much. Every single QB is a system QB. Hell, Casey Dick is a system QB... it's just a system that doesn't allow him to put up impressive numbers. What are Harrell and Brennan? They're products of pass-happy systems that allow them to post silly passing stats. Jones is an idiot.... the man contradicted himself as much in that interview, as made his point.

Yeah and look at Donovan McNabb.... he's constantly plagued by injuries because of the hits he takes. McNabb is much bigger than Tebow too, I think.

My honest Opinion guys..Tebow just doesnt seem like a guy that would let himself fail, he seems to me like a whatever it takes type of guy! I just got a good feeling about him because the size of his heart!

Actually, he's not bigger than Tebow; nor do I think he's as durable or tough. McNabb is 6'2" 240... Tebow is about the same, at 6'3" and anywhere from 235 to 245. McNabb is also 30 years old, and is now feeling the effects of all the hits. Every pro QB takes the same kinds of hits... some can take it better than others... and some QB's are more prone to injury than others. We won't know about Tebow until he gets there. Until then, I'm going to enjoy watching him roast college opponents.

No, we won't know how well he will do in the NFL, but I am sure that, barring catastrophic injury, he will be there. We enjoy watching him burn the competition with all his Gator teammates, but I think the chances are good that we will also enjoy watching him on Sundays. I wish him all the best luck.

I thought this comment from The Heisman Pundit was great:

June Jones Goes Off
December 4th, 2007

From June Jones' presser:

"My intent on what I said was not to demean Tim Tebow in anyway. I said this on ESPN Today The media picks the Heisman Trophy winner. No longer will it go to a guy like it did years ago on a 3-8 team. It just doesn't happen. My point was that my quarterback has been labeled a `system quarterback' for three years. He is the best passer in college history. He is. There is no question about it. Tim Tebow is in a system. The last quarterback who was in that system, if you had asked me about Alex Smith, he was a system quarterback I thought when we were watching him. Talented. But I didn't see him in an NFL passing (system). Colt Brennan plays in an NFL passing game. You can dial it up and see that it is not a system. Tim Tebow's system is a college system. He is a great quarterback who'll probably win a national championship. He's competitive; he's all those things. But a lot of his stuff comes off little dives, fades, things he is not going to do in the National Football League. That's my point. I think Jake Locker (from Washington) is a great athlete. I'd love to be a part of coaching a kid like that. But I said what I said and I mean it. I said this too on national radio today and probably take some heat from it. (his phone rings) Look, here is an 847 area code right now. On ESPN GameDay, they are promoting Tim Tebow to win the Heisman, which he'll probably win. My quarterback is the best player, trust me. But they (ESPN GameDay) said, and we watch at the hotel and listening to it for last six weeks, they said as they were going off the air 'Tim Tebow has accounted for 53 touchdowns in one season, the most in college football history.' I said you guys just told a lie. Last year, my quarterback threw for 58 touchdowns and ran for another (five). I got my point across. You guys ripped me a knew one yesterday, and I'm going to say it again and stand by what I said, my quarterback is the best college football player in America. I did not add Tebow's team has three loses or is not in a BCS game. I wish I had that info, why didn't you call me? The bottom line is I irritated them because they knew I was right. But I did get a whole bunch of emails and calls from Florida State people that said 'Thanks for finally saying that.'"

First off, Jones is just factually wrong. Brennan doesn't play in a system? Is he stoned? What NFL team runs Hawaii's offense? How many quarterbacks in the NFL throw the ball 50 times a game? How many of Jones' quarterbacks are in the league? If Brennan doesn't play in a system and he is the best quarterback in college football history (as Jones says) then he should be the No. 1 pick in the draft, right? But he won't be, because scouts know he plays in a system, he doesn't have ideal size, he plays against weak competition and, oh, by the way, he's also an ex-con.

Anyway, this notion that it is somehow better to do well in a pro system rather than a college system is just misplaced NFL arrogance. Whether you look at production, design or just the aesthetic factor, most NFL offenses flat-out suck. And, isn't this college football we are talking about?

By almost every objective measure, Tim Tebow's season has been superior to Colt Brennan's. The end result is that Tebow accounted for 51 touchdowns in the best league in the country. That's all you need to know when comparing these two.

Brennan is a great quarterback. One of the best ever. But he's not the most Heisman-worthy player this year. He may have been last year but, as a wise man once said, that train has sailed.

YEAH!!! What he said!
