Official attendance was around 55,000. A lot of those 55,000 apparently wore costumes as empty seats.  This is sad on so many levels and I don't care how far the teams are from Jax.

Virgina Tech vs Boston College........:zzzz: I think I would get more enjoyment out of watching Mark Mangino fight Charlie Weis at an all you can eat buffet...

I went to the Gator bowl (same stadium pictured) some years back and it was between GT and Miami. The upper deck had no one in it, hence it was closed off, and the lower level wans't filled to capacity either.

That looks like the crowd from the 5A Florida High School state championship game!

If there were 55,000 people there I'll do a ceremonial lap in the nuddypants at the BCS Game.

As you can tell by the picture you maybe have about 100 people in both upper decks since they were not roped off.

My 1st thought would be, why are you sitting up there when there is obviously a ton of lower deck tickets which you could move to. But then I thought, imagine how short the lines are for beer and to piss. That would be heaven.

How much you want to bet, the ACC championship is moved out of Florida and into North Carolina within the next few years?

To be somewhat fair, the majority of the fans in the picture are clearly VT fans.....BC is in Boston....outside of the students.....no one really gives that much of a crap about BC sports. It's a total Red Sox city every time I've been there. Folks love the Celtics, but I haven't been up there this year, so I'm sure they're probably crazy about 'em...and well...the Bruins are the Bruins.

Point is distance is a factor for SOME people, but there isn't a huge population around VT and they still travel because they give a crap. Folks in Boston don't. It's winter in Boston and you have a chance to A. take a vacation to Florida and B. watch a football game on said vacation....and you don't go? Only one logical conclusion can be drawn.....no one gives a crap.

I was there, too, but I was in the upper deck. If I remember correctly, there was only one upper deck open. 1/1/2000. That was my first bowl game.

Mine too! I was really hoping Tech could pull it off too. The GA/Fla game that year, 99, was my first Gators game as well.
Also my first Jags game was in 99. I went to two season games that year and the divisional playoffs (vs Miami Dolphins). It was Dan Marino's last game and the Jags drilled him 62-7. Then my brother and I scored AFC championship tickets the very next weekend. I hate the Titans:brick:
Ahhh...memories. Alltel/Jax municipal stadium is the best:thumpsup:

I'd actually would put Mangino v. Weis up there in priority of viewing.

I'm sorry, is that the Sunbelt Conference Championship Game? Or wait, the Papa Johns.com Bowl?

ACC, you fail.

If that picture has 55,000 people in their seats, then that stadium must hold at least 250,000 people. That doesnt even look close to 55,000. 20,000 at the most . . .

The ACC championship game is supposed to be moving to Charlotte, NC either next year or the year after. Last year most Ga. Tech fans didn't even bother to make the short trip to Jacksonville... That ought to tell you something right there.
