The SEC is 40-8 (83%) in out of conference play 2007 (without the bowl games, of course). The 8 comes from the following out of conference SEC losses:
Tennessee to Cal
South Carolina to Clemson
Alabama to Florida State
Alabame to LA. Monroe
Vanderbilt to Wake Forest
Auburn to South Florida
Ole Miss to Missouri
and
Mississippi State to West Virginia
I think this is an outstanding out of conference record for the SEC teams, even if most of the teams we play out of conference aren't that great. Here is a list of out of conference foes we faced in the 2007 season:
Oklahome State
Western Carolina
Troy
Georgia Tech
So. Miss
La Lafayette
Arkansas State
California
Western Kentucky
Florida Atlantic
Florida State
Eastern Kentucky
Kent State
Louisville
South Carolina State
North Carolina
Clemson
Richmond
Eastern Michigan
Miami (OH)
Wake Forest
VA Tech
Middle Tennessee St.
Tulane
Louisiana Tech
Kansas State
South Florida
New Mexico State
Tennessee Tech
North Texas
UT- Chatt ??
Florida Int'l
Gardner Webb
Alabama-Birmingham
West Virginia
Houston
Louisiana Monroe
Memphis
N'West State
Missouri
The teams that SEC teams lost to are bolded. So what does everyone think about this list? I spent a while getting it together
The SEC has a chance to to 49-8 for out of conference play in 2007. That's an 85% winning percentage.
The SEC won 83% of their regular season out of conference games. That's pretty damn good, dont ya think?

So does USF! BTW, the SEC didn't look impressive in OOC play. My feeling is, we get our asses handed to us in the Bowl games. 4-5, at best.

A lot of patsies there. Nice list, and good job putting it together - I was wondering what the SEC's OOC looked like overall.
You'd think there are a lot of schools in there that got a nice little payday for coming into an SEC stadium and getting walloped.

Man-i forgot all about Ole Miss-Mizzou. That game was a real close game, in retrospect that game was TOO close for a future #1 team.

You're correct. ULM and USF are just so similar on so many different levels.

In a month we can add the following teams:
Colorado
Central Florida
Florida St.
Wisconsin
Clemson
Missouri
Michigan
Hawaii
Ohio St.
I hope that Nellan will not have to enter any of these teams in bold on his list. Let's go SEC!!!!!!!!!!

well, looking at the list, I think we (SEC) won every game we should have (cept LaMonroe) and lost to every team that was legitimate competition w/the exception of LSU drumming Vtech and maybe UF's win over FlaSt

Well I won't have to add some of them since we've already faced them, including Clemson, Missouri, and Florida State. Hopefully I'll get a chance to un-bold those losses though

The percentage sounds nice, but if you examine the list then nearly every one of of our victories were to mediocre cupcakes. We didn't really stack up too well when we played the big boys from the top conferences. (except for VT)
We did have some good victories...but not enough.

Agreed...only 14 of the 48 games played were against schools from BCS conferences and we went a very mediocre 8-6 in those games.
32-2 against teams that were probably on average a 5 TD underdog against us just doesn't impress me.
All this does is simply confirm that SEC schools (and I know the same case can be made for most other BCS conferences) for the most part schedule 3 "sure victories" and 1 game against marginal competition. So, even a pathetic 3-5 (and possibly 2-6) conference record translates into being rewarded with a bowl trip. What's the point??
For those that oppose a playoff because of the number of games it adds, the easy answer is to lose at least 2 of the crap games that already mean and accomplish nothing and use a playoff system. Regardless of how you format it, there were 34 games that did nothing for SEC schools except make us feel better about ourselves and line the pockets of those more unfortunate!!
