I did not get to watch the speech of Houston Nutt, but an Arkasas fan said he had a gleem in his eyes. He said that gleem was fire ! Fire to succeed at Olemiss. I hope that fire extends to the Rebel Fans. Lets support and cheer on our team and coaching staff as loud as possible at all of our games. We finally have something to be fired up about.

I am not bashing Coach O, because I was excited when he came in as our coach also.

I just think the hiring of "HOUSTON DALE NUTT" will bring something special to the Ole Miss Rebel Football Team and the Rebel Faithful !

Croom is the looser! I don't think so, This will set CC on fire, He has had to fight scratch and climb out of the gutter to get to where he is, This will do nothing but enhance what is already happening at MSU, I did like it when Nutt would not say how long it will take him to build OM, He has to teach these kids to win, Just ask CC how easy this is, Don't worry about State now, You have to focus on OM, MSU will take care of itself and they are moving up, Who knows maybe soon the Eggbowl will be playing for something big soon!

Please don't take this as a swing at State, but the biggest difference between the current situation at Ole Miss and the situation at State when Croom was hired is the roster. Sherrill (Sp?) really left State in a hole player-wise that it has taken 4 yrs to almost crawl out of. Cut left us in a similar hole 3 yrs ago, and O did a good job of fixing that problem at most positions. Thanks to this, It won't take Nutt that long to ignite these guys in a positive way, plus he doesn't have to learn on the job like both O and Croom have.
Just take a look at what he did with the Hogs in that first season:
1997 (pre-Nutt):4-7
1998 (first Nutt season): 9-3 (8-0 start)

Nutt knows how to take a team with talent and get the ball rolling. I don't envision a start like the 98 hogs, but he won't go 3-9 and o-8 in the SEC.

The first season will probably be more like 5-7 / 6-6, though of course we could have a good year. I'm not going to build up my hopes to impossible ideas, but we can still hope. Cut was 8-4 his first year, and Brewer was a winner (and a bowl game) after 5 straight losing seasons under Steve Sloan, so it can happen. But we must be realistic. We were 12th in total defense/ last, and 10th in scoring defense. On offense we were 9th in total offense and 12th in scoring offense so we are not starting from almost there, but last in the won lost record and most other individual areas. We gave up large amonts of rushing yardage, 11th in rushing defense. We have runners and quarterbacks (all of them) who will be brand new to SEC starting roles.

Nutt starts with some individual talent that performed poorly as a team. Hopefully he can make better use of what we have while soon adding to the level of talent he needs to win. He will certainly be more professional and is an experienced head coach. I think we will quickly show that we are better and no longer something to make fun of. I believe we will have some good days next year, and probably have several disappointments. That's all part of having a new coach. Nutt will be recruiting new areas we haven't done much in and he probably will surprise us with a few recruits from the Texas-Arkansas states this season.

Nutt has a lot of hard work and probably 2-3 years before we begin to see major results on the field, but, I think we can expect more next year, but where we start from 3-9, it's not too hard to get better. I'm really looking forward to the 2008 season and the improvement I expect to see under Nutt. It is the beginning of a new chapter in Ole Miss football, and I believe it will be a positive thing and that we will return to being respected on the field. That is our hope, I believe, to be able to say this is a turn towards being part of our proud football past, by being able to add to that tradition, to continue it, to even, hopefully, increase it.

It's going to be fun, again, to actually BELIEVE.

Sherrill (Sp?) really left State in a hole player-wise that it has taken 4 yrs to almost crawl out of.

Not only did Jackie Sherrill leave MSU totally devoid in talent, but also with wasted scholarships on thugs that were "put in the road" by Coach Croom AND...NCAA Sanctions which killed recruiting...but now we are past all that...Yes it did a while to crawl out!

And... Congrats to OM on getting Coach Nutt! Great choice!! He will be a great asset to the State of Mississippi!

Believe me, you are very fortunate to have your football program left in its current shape. The Rebs will comeback quick and strong!!

Good luck.
