Not really, this has probably been in the works for weeks. Doesn't just happen overnight, or in 6 hours! I would bet Jimmy Sexton could have told you who would fill all these vacancies 2 weeks ago.

Good head coach that the fans ran out the door - $3.5 million
A decent handgun - $500
The seven days spent waiting to end it all - Priceless

Man, that was fast. I don't know about the two week thing. They may have had something in the works for a few days; but there are serious penalties for contacting coaches under contract. I'm sure they've been saying "IF" he leaves Arky, we're going after him, for a long time, though.
I'd like to know how the Rebs around here feel about the hire. It's actually a shame for Arky, because I think he's a very good coach. He just made some stupid personal and personnel decisions. Those choices got him fired; but, to me, it looks like Ole Miss is going to benefit from it, because he's likely learned his lesson about those things, and won't make those same mistakes a second time. Arky will have to spend considerable money to do better, IMHO.

Congrats to Ole Miss on getting a good coach. The quick turnaround on filling the HC position should help with recruiting as well.

I still want Will Muschamp, but I will be ok with Houston Nutt. I will not, however, take back anything I've said about the goofy bastard over the years.

 Yeah, he can be pretty loopy sometimes, like after the LSU game. But, two things are undeniable: 1. He's not just getting his feet wet for the first time as a HC, like the O was. 2. He has a proven record of winning as a HC in the SEC, and can get the necessary talent to be successful (as long as he doesn't do it by offering jobs to high school coaches, he'll be fine). I'd say congratulations are in order. Y'all's team will have an immediate turnaround and improvement.

For every Gus Malzahn, there's a Hugh Freeze. Coach Freeze is awesome.

This is an excellent choice for the Rebs. As "goofy" as he sometimes appears, Houston Nutt is a solid coach who knows how to win. It is going to be tougher on Ole Miss opponents because Nutt always has his team prepared and can beat anybody on any given Saturday. Watch out LSU!

Well, I wasn't actually saying the coach he got was a bad coach. What I meant was that hiring him to get at a couple recruits is inherently dangerous, underhanded, and a bad idea. All the turmoil resulted from people's impressions of that incident. The hire was just coupled with ideas of a different offensive approach to get the guys they wanted. When that plan wasn't implemented, the players and their families felt like they'd been lied to. That split the whole fan base into two camps; and ultimately ended with Nutt's premature exit.

His name is Houston Nuttless. I can't stand the goofy jerkwater sob. I'll be a baseball fan only from now on I guess. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll have to decide not to take the job.

I'm excited about the hire. I've always respected what Nutt has done with Arkansas' program. I think he'll do well at Ole Miss.
He can be as goofy as he wants as long as SEC teams coming to Oxford don't consider it an off-week any more.

I don't know if there is any truth to this but on the radio in B'ham they were saying that Mike Shula is a possibility for offensive coordinator.

Great. For some reason, Nutt owns us. Ole Miss is on our schedule next year. Oh well, at least we don't have to play him every year now.
Experience
Winner
Good Recruiter
Knows the SEC
He will make us a winner again. That's enough for me. No doubt the press will look for every chance to find something in his statements to harp on, count on it. He speaks his mind and says what he is thinking at the moment, that is gun powder for the press. They get paid to find the flaws and mistakes. Then they hammer some guy to death with them till people believe that is all the guy is. Nutt wins games. That is why we hired him. We didn't hire him to be a historian or poet.
He is a professional, and he knows what is required to win. I can live with that.

his agent of course.
However, Southern Miss has requested to be allowed to talk to him about their vacancy.
There have been some small schools that have shown interest in him before but he was wanting to get his health on track. He might find something this time.

Has anyone heard about RK retiring and ex-Senator Trent Lott possibly taking his place?! How crazy is that! It is weird that Lott just up and quit right out of the blue like he did, there might be something to it.
In would imagine that Nutt will bring most of his coaching staff with him. The times they are a changing. Good, it's time to clean house and build a team.
You know I just thought of something. We just hired a coach from a team going to a bowl game. If he brings most of his staff with him.....didn't we just do a Tuberville? Oh well, so be it.

Just want to congratulate Rebel Nation on a hire that I think will pay off. I realize all SEC members have heard this season was the Arkansas fans who hated Nutt. That seem to get all the attention, But believe it or not, they were fans who loved the guy and hated to see him go.
Ole Miss fans will realize over the next few season that a lot of fans from Arkansas have become Ole Miss fans as well. Ans something to look forward to with the hire, is some really good recruits from the state of Arkansas that will De-commit from their oral commitment to Arkansas. Four dandy's hail from Warren Arkansas. A hot bed for Arkansas talent. We never were about to go in there and get anyone until this past off-season. And Houston was able to get their best four. I see all of them to follow him to Oxford.
Know this about your hire. Kids love playing for the guy. And he knows talent in the area. You also will get a grat coach in Offensive line, running game coordinator coach, Mike Markuson. Notre Dame is after him, but he's always said he'll follow Houston Nutt to Hell. I wonder if he ever thought that trip would come so soon?
Again Congratulation.

With one hand they offer $3 million in deferred compensation to leave and with the other hand, Arkansas Nutt offers a contract extension for $2.4 million.
I don't understand the contract extension for less money... somebody can't add and subtract.
Nutt, who will receive some $3 million in deferred compensation from Arkansas’ Razorback Foundation, compiled a 75-48 record over 10 seasons. He was offered a reported $2.4 million to stay with the Razorbacks, but chose instead to resign, citing unrest among the Arkansas fan base.

Great hire. Nutt is a winner, he had 8/9/10 win seasons the majority of his career at ARK, 2 SECW titles along the way. I have no doubt he'll have equal or greater success at Miss. Coach O will surely be missed. (by the rest of the SEC) Congrats guys

42-38 and it sure beats 3-way too many
I think Nutt will be able to secure most recruits and hopefully steal some talent from Arkansas.
I'm just glad we won't be getting beat 37-3, etc, by Arkansas anymore.

does anyone know if Hugh Freeze Frank Wilson or any other assistants are staying? I hope we keep Freeze
