Former Arkansas coach Nutt replaces Orgeron at Ole Miss
Nov. 27, 2007
CBSSports.com wire reports

JACKSON, Miss. -- Houston Nutt wasn't out of a job for long: He was hired as Mississippi's football coach just hours after resigning at Arkansas.

Nutt agreed to a contract late Monday night, and replaces Ed Orgeron, who was fired Sunday after the Rebels lost to rival Mississippi State and finished 3-9.

The hiring of Nutt was confirmed by a person close to the program who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.

Nutt resigned even though the Razorbacks upset then-No. 1 LSU 50-48 in triple overtime last week.

The school planned an announcement on its coaching situation later Tuesday.

I think this is a big step up for Ole Miss over Coach O-face.

Nutt is a good coach although a little one dimensional in his offense. He seems to prefer the running game (before McFadden also) even tho he was a 4 year strter at QB when he played.
Arkansas will miss him more than they think.

Nutt threw the ball all over with Stoerner then went to the option offense with Jones and then just lined up McFadden in the single wing. He's pretty adaptable to his players.

I like it. If its true that is.Nutt seems to know how to win some games. We have good talent, I think we can start snakebiting some teams with a lil' coaching.

Just a question, who does Ole Miss have lined up at RB next year. If yall have some speed, yall should be pretty dangerous offensively with Snead under center.

The starting RB should be Cordera Eason, he was a Rivals 4 star out of high school and was the Mississippi Player of the Year. He was a phenomenal athlete in H.S. but has seen limited playing time behind BJGE and Bruce Hall. He's been mostly on ST for the Rebels, but that all should change. He will be the main guy, but behind him, it's a little iffy. We have some really good freshman commits in the current class, most notably Rivals 4 star RB Darius Barksdale from South Panola, who is just a beast running the ball. We also have commits from 3 star Ken Davis from Tupelo (who is being recruited heavily by Bama I hear) and also Kenny Ashley, a 3 star JUCO who was a 4 star out of HS. If these commits hold, it could be a very well stocked RB lineup.

We Ole Miss fans were at an all time low this year. Then Nutt came. (funny how much that helps) He wasn't the first coach I thought of when the hunt began but this may be the best hire since JV retired. Chick-a-Boom!
