Looks like it might be Houston Nutt !

Nutt out at Arkansas, interested in Rebel vacancy : Football : Commercial Appeal (http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/nov/26/arkansas-coach-nutt-announce-resignation/)

Crazy. I think Nutt would be a big step up for the Rebels.

I heard that he is being offered over 2 million a year !

They are talking about him as a candidate for GT as well.

Coach O had to go, but this is a bad year to be looking for a coach. There are a bunch of quality programs looking right now.

TX A&M has already got their guy, but AR & GT are both pretty good jobs. The problem is, not everyone can win 9 or more games every year.

I'm hoping that Ole Miss gets somebody good. Hell, I hope the Yellow Jackets get someone good.

Lot's of competition for the best candidates...

The article also said Nutt was interested in the Olemiss job. My guess would be that he is wanting to beat the school that wanted him gone.

That is just my 2cents ! Everybody always has a little revenge in them !

I don't disagree with that.

And Nick is on the money - Nutt would be a big step up for the Rebs.

Cutcliffe probably got a raw deal at Ole Miss, but I'm thinking that their experience after all of that will keep them from making the same mistake again.

If he does get the job, The Olemiss fans need to support him. I think he would be a great coach, but every Olemiss fan might not think so. Fan support would just help the whole situation get better.

Nutt would be excellent for the Rebels. He would, IMO, bring them back to prominence.

And, I think Nutt would prefer the family lifestyle of Oxford to the urban-sprawl problems of Atlanta.

I hope we can keep Nutt in the SEC; he's a mighty good football coach.

Dude, they JUST saw the O get canned.

You'd want Houston Dale Nutt as your HC too after 2 years of that "experiment".

Not to knock any team.. but Arkansas' firing of Houston Nutt reminds me alot of Ole Miss' firing of Cutcliffe.. Everyone OUTSIDE of the program was saying "WHY??".. Damn, Nutt just went 8-4.. and beat the #1 team in the country ON THE ROAD!! Not to mention, he lost 5-6 starters on offense and defense from last year.. Arkansas got better as the year went along..

I just dont get it..

Whoever gets Houston Nutt will be happy..

And since we play Ole Miss next year... I hope Nutt goes to GT :)

My top three choices (in order) would be Nutt, Leach, Nueheisel

Heh - the reason I posted the list of GT candidates (as per the Atlanta Urinal Constipation) is that I personally think these 4 guys should be at the top of everyone's wish list:

Randy Edsall, head coach, Connecticut: Edsall, 49, was Georgia Tech's defensive coordinator in 1998 and was named head coach at UConn in 1999. He has guided the Huskies move into Division I-A. This is Connecticut's fourth year in the Big East. The Huskies were 9-3 this season.

Paul Johnson, head coach, Navy: Johnson, 50, knows the state from his days at Georgia Southern, where he was part of Erk Russell's original staff in 1982. Johnson came back to Georgia Southern and won Division I-AA national championships in 1999 and 2000. He was 62-10 at Georgia Southern. He has had unprecedented success at Navy, where his teams have posted five straight winning records and have gone to five straight bowls.

Jimbo Fisher, offensive coordinator, Florida State: Fisher, 42, is considered to be one of the best offensive coordinators in college football. He left LSU, where he developed QB Jamarcus Russell into the NFL's No. 1 draft choice, to join Bobby Bowden's staff this season. He has a connection with Georgia Tech AD Dan Radakovich from his days at LSU.

Terry Bowden, former head coach Auburn: Bowden, 51, has been out of coaching since leaving Auburn midway through the 1998 season. He has made it clear to friends that he is ready to return to coaching. Bowden won 20 straight games to start his career at Auburn and took the Tigers to the 1997 SEC championship game. He was the 1993 national coach of the year.

OK, OK... I know I may get hammered for throwing Terry Bowden in there, but the man can flat coach - he proved that. The big knock on him was that he was weak in recruiting.

is that a dealbreaker? maybe... but I think he would be able to surround himself with able assistants to shore up that area.

I listed Edsell 1st, but I think that he & Johnson should be 1 & 1a on the top of everyone's radar.

Randy Edsall would be my pick of those 4

He resigned, was not fired. In fact, he was offered a contract extension. While the bonehead fans did probably run him off, we did not Cutcliffe him either.

Well, I see where Trent Lott just resigned from the Ho House. I'd say he is a shoe-in to be the next coach of duh Webbels. Maybe he can go recruit a few of his beloved illigal aliens to tote d'rock fo dem Webs. They come cheap, yoiu know.

Arkansas wants to take the next step, and Nutt may not be the guy to get them there. However, Ole Miss right now just needs to get back into the picture, because as of now they are in obscurity. Winless in the SEC... pathetic. Houston Nutt can bring that team back to 8 wins a season, which to the fans in Oxford, would be a dream come true at this point.

Nutt is a winner and we need that. If he does for us what he did for Arkansas that would be great, but, what if he does even better? We just finished our little experiment in how dumb can a athletic director get= O = Real Dumb. And now we will have a real coach, Nutt. We have started our journey back from the "Dark Side." Here's to a much better 2008.

One thing is for sure, nobody does more with an offensive line than Nutt. Every year he has holes for somebody to run through. I just hope he can learn to throw the forward pass. With our receivers in place maybe he can get that going too. His defense has always been good as well. Take away the Usc blowouts and his teams have been reliable. He was not the one I wanted in the first place but he is sounding good to me the more I think about it.

Don't bash Coach O, at least he left quite a bit for Nutt to work with. And with Nutt coming in, I doubt you lose any recruits and will probably pick up a few big names.

SN says Nutt to OM is done (I think this happened a couple of weeks ago) and all that is being hammered out is the Assistants contracts.

Wow, thats Ironic and Nutt is not only a winner, but a fighter. Get used to hearing that a lot because it does look like he's going to Oxford. Why we didn't put a no SEC clause in his buyout I have no idea, but oh well. Well if yal are happy then I'm happy for you I guess. And don't get me wrong. You are getting some positives. Nutt is a good motivator and I'm going to miss (to an extent) the hardnosed, physical type of play he brings and more than likely you will get some very good assistant's ie Markuson (good O-line coach) maybe Rocker (d-line), Shiebest (special teams, that sucks for yal) you will probably keep Thompson since he is an Arkansas guy and coached Nutt's D's before, ect, and to be honest Dale isn't a bad X's and O's coach. He learned some tough lessons here too and I would be surprised if you have another Mustain type deal happen.

His biggest negative besides his craziness is his lack of recruiting. Nutt isn't good at this. You probably need to bring in an assistant that can. Its going to be interesting to see how he does with an equal instate rival to battle against. Also, get ready for playing not to lose instead of playing to win, but either or would probably be an upgrade (no cheap shot intended).

If history is a reference then next season will be his best year for yal so enjoy it. He stepped into a similar situation with us in 1998 and almost got us into the NC (freaking Tennessee). Instead we were blown out by Michigan, but thats enough of the downside and yes I fully expect you to beat us next season. Nutt really left us in good shape. Anyway, good luck and here's to hoping that Ole Miss gets back on track :barf:

Ole Miss fans are going to love coach Nutt. I am so pissed about this deal because he was run out of Arkansas because of Mitch Mustain and the power players in the Springdale area. Ole Miss and Arkansas just switched places in the SEC in my opinion.

It's been a good day. Went over profit with accountant today to determine taxes way ahead of time and it was good. My tumor results came in, it was not cancer and it was good. I put up Christmas decorations with my wife without an arguement and it was good. I am cooking duck on my recipe and it will be good. I am taking tomorrow off so I will enjoy tomorrow and late night movies and it will be good. Yet the best news of all is still Houston Nutt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to admit I think this is gonna be a good thing for Ole Miss. I'm ready to be competitive again. Nutt has proven he can coach in high pressure situations, and I think the Ole Miss fan base will largely stand behind him, which is something O never completely got.

How nasty do you think the UM vs. Arky game will be from now on???
