Tommy Tuberville out of Texas A&M mix

Auburn's Tommy Tuberville will not be the new head football coach at Texas A&M, according to a source close to Tuberville.

Texas A&M has informed the Tuberville camp that it's decided to go in a different direction, the source said. It appears A&M will hire Mike Sherman, an assistant coach with the NFL's Houston Texans, to succeed Dennis Franchione.

While Texas A&M is out, Arkansas may make a play for Tuberville if it parts ways with current coach Houston Nutt, the source said. Arkansas and Nutt may have an announcement on their situation as early as today.

Franchione, the former Alabama head coach, resigned Friday after closing out his fifth regular season at A&M with a win over rival Texas.

Tuberville is scheduled to meet today with the Auburn president and athletics director to discuss making changes in his contract and his assistants' contracts and improving Auburn's facilities.

Tuberville and his football team won their sixth straight Iron Bowl with a 17-10 victory Saturday night over Alabama.

Reality calling Zorak.....come in Zorak. Every single Bama fan I know wants him to stay put, mainly for revenge. Plus, much better Tubbs than somebody like Bobby P or Leavitt.

Woe is us..I am hoping he stays because he has proven that this is as good as it gets for Auburn. Where are all those trophies that AU should have stockpiled while the Bammers have been nailed to the wall by the NCAA, coaching debacle after coaching debacle, and playing with Division II caliber players. Sure, you have beaten a ragged program six straight years but thats about all that AU and Tubbs has accomplished. But then again, that probably has nothing to do with Tuberville, thats the way it has always been at Auburn...:D

Zorak..... I want him gone. I think the guy is probably the best coach in the SEC. I know it hurts to say.... the guy is good.

This could be true , but until I see Texas A@M hire someone other than Tuberville , I still consider him replacing Coach Fran a possibilty.

I can never forget Tubby telling the "Ole Miss Family" that the only way He would leave Oxford would be in a pine box.

Now if Tex A@M isn't interested , that is a different story. I am just not sure I am buying that yet.

If They ARE interested in Tuberville , my guess is They WILL get him if They want him.

For sure , I am not sold on Tubby being 100% committed to Auburn. He is an arrogant SOB ( but one hell of a coach ). I don't believe for 1 minute that he has forgotten that AUB almost cut him loose a few years ago.

In short , I think Tubby is the Dog of whoever He happens to be hunting with. Not to say that isn't smart of him. I just think he is for whatever is best for him.

Even if He is at Auburn again next year , I don't think it will be his final stop as a HC. Eventually , I think He lands somewhere in the NFL. I think that is where He really wants to be.

What about Tubbs is arrogant and who isn't for whatever is best for them? And by the way, Auburn didnt try to run him off. That was the work of a few men who, for the most part, are not around anymore. Auburn loves CTT!!

I dont believe that. Although he has put himself in a great position to keep his job is he wanted to, that would be foolish. The fan base hates him and there are just too many jobs open that would allow him and his family to have a fresh start.

Could this be opening the door for Tubberville to come to LSU? lol
