I was just over at Rivals checking out the coaching rumor mill article that they update pretty frequently, and Ed Orgeron was still on the list, but they had a possible replacement for him listed. Art Biles of UHouston was mentioned as the guy to possibly replace O. I don't know much about the guy, I know that Houston normally puts up good offensive numbers, but as far as being a coach that could turn our program around, I'm not so sure. I would rather see us get a HC from an up and coming program, or maybe some D/O coordinator from a big time program. I think Bo Pelini would make a great HC.
What do you guys think? Could Art get us out of the hole?
Here is some information on Briles:
Art Briles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Briles)
Here is his record from Houston:
2003 = 7-6
2004 = 3-8
2005 = 6-6
2006 = 10-4
2007 = 7-4
At least he is experienced and a winner, but a 33-28 record isn't great but of course I don't know the conditions at Houston. It may represent a great or average effort. Whoever is the answer, we had best do this one right. One more bomb and we may be down for many years.

I don't think that we'll be needing a new coach soon

The reason that Briles has come up is because our coaches went over to Houston to study their spread offense in order to implement parts of it next year.

Cianne the insider.. nice info
no doubt we'll be running a spread next year the word is out
I hope that we'll still feature the power I and formations with the fullback in it
Jason Cook is very underrated he is no doubt in my mind one of the best FB in the SEC

the spread really does make sense with the receiving corps we have
and Herrick Snead and Wilkes use to the shotgun
my only concern is Cordera is too big of a back for the spread or not.. see Javorwskie Lane and that McClendon guy from Kansas..
not unless that might indicate that Jeremy McGee is something special and will get some good PT at RB next year.

I don't foresee a complete 100% switch to the spread because that's just not Werner's style. He's still a multiple offense guy that is now incorporating the zone read from the shotgun about 22 games late going back to Schaeffer starting last year's opening game with Memphis. So I'd imagine you'd still see the power offense look inside the twenty yard line with Cook and Eason lined up in the I. This also helps with the lack of physicality inside the red zone.
Another plus this year has been Cook's hands out of the backfield. He can be used in the two-back set as a blocker on an option sweep or used to catch swing passes.
Yeah, that's the way I've always seen things. When you are poor on basics and losing and have a very bad team, you should change offensive and defensive coordinators, and keep changing the offense, blocking, and defense, until it gets better. Maybe we should continue the same blocking style, and offense, same defense, same coordinators and work really hard on blocking and tackling and be sure we go into one season knowing what we are supposed to be doing.
If you keep changing no one ever really learns what they are doing and people will continue calling the wrong play, getting confused, throwing to the wrong place, fumbling, blocking the wrong person, and most important to me, losing.
I think it's time for, K.I.S.S., and a lot of hard work.
