I heard Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis, the current Cincy coach, the TCU coach, and even Mike Stoops, also the DC at Florida... I'm thinking maybe the UCONN coach or another Big East coach who's had recent success.
People keep saying it's going to be a big name coach, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

The hell with that. He quit, let him stay at Tulsa.
What? no spurrier? He almost went to Miami, Bama, Texas A&M, - Is going to LSU once Miles goes to Michigan...why not Arkansas as well?
Did I leave some other schools out that he's leaving for?

Nutt was from Boise State. Makes me wonder if that would eliminate the guy.
I'll wait to see what happens. Stay or go I won't be mad. Well, if he goes the next guy had better be damn good.

What do you think after beating LSU? Keep Nutt? My bud here who is a Razorback says give him another year.

Charlie Strong has paid his dues, and knows the game very well. The theroy for years here in SC is that he went to Fla. because of their history of having DC's getting good positions as a head coach.
I'd say Charley is well over due for a MAJOR program HC job somewhere.

I don't see Nutt stepping down, the UofA will have to fire him and pay him. I say he deserves another year, but the "darksiders" (people that literally HATE nutt) will just ride him until he leaves. I think Arkansas will probably end up firing him; I just hope that we can get someone who has proven themselves at the College level.

I'm fine with Nutt. I just want him to go back to the way he used to be. I'd rather loose games on a crazy call versus being a predictable offense. It works when you can use Heisman level talent to pull it off.
Nutt was/is awesome when he gambles. You don't get to 7-1 in NCAA style OT games by accident. If he coached that way during the regulation... what would the Hogs record be?
That is my only complaint on Nutt. My vote is one more year. Should he leave, I won't fault him. It's been a hellstorm. Should he be fired, well the reason had better be a good one.
PS. Should he be fired and the next coach sucks, I personally will find and kick the collective asses of all black-shirts.

I think what most people are mad about is that this year was supposed to be the year to do it and the "playing not to lose" rather than "playing to win" mentality of his play calls is what has everyone all heated up.
Ark could easily be with one loss right now with their chance at the SEC CG and possible Nat'l Championship but the way they let UK and Bama back in the games reminded me of what Zook used to do. He'd get up by just a little bit and start playing not to lose rather than going for the kill and just putting it away.

There is a sticky on their main board saying that Leach is/was on a plane to Little Rock.

Interesting. I don't know about his pass happy style, the SEC defenders are the quickest in the country. I guess we will have to wait and see.

After a coaching change, every HC is seen getting on a plane that is flying to that city....lol.
I've heard NU sent a plane to Baton Rouge to interview Bo Peep. I think that's pretty reliable.

Pretty much. I've been a Houston supporter despite those being my exact feelings. Yeah, I wanted the risk taker back, but I wasn't the type to throw the baby out with the bath water. I suspect most feel like I do. Unfortunately the vocal minority seems to have won.

I think it was over how the whole Malzahn / Mustain thing was handled more than how we ended up 8-4. Don't get me wrong, the fans were expecting a double digit winning season.

David Cutcliffe.
When you let the media talk you into driving a good coach away, well, you might just get that 4-8 season. The next time you fellas get a good coach, you had best keep your eye on the ball, winning. That's all he's there for. If you want someone to talk like an engineer, act like a preacher, always be perfect, you won't ever keep a coach. We tried driving a good coach off at Ole Miss, and spent the last three years on that payback thing. As they say, "What goes around comes around." I hope you have better luck than we did. Payback is a bitch.

I'm surprised so many people are dogging Arky fans for wanting to show Nutt the door. It seems to me like the whole nation all of a sudden thinks Nutt is the best coach in the world because we just beat No. 1 LSU. That game was so crazy and so close anyway that it could have gone either way at any moment, and I really wonder if so many people would be pointing the finger at us right now for letting him go if Nutt had lost last Friday. As far as Nutt's "awesome recruiting" goes, he hasn't done anything special or any better than any decent SEC coach could do. In fact, he lost a more than likely NFL bound QB/WR duo and McFadden was gonna go to Arkansas anway, no matter who the coach was - the guy is from Little Rock and has an "arkansas bred" tattoo, doubt he even had a second college choice. Same with Matt Jones - born in Van Buren, AR - wasn't gna play for anyone else but the razorbacks anyway.
I don't understand why our offensive coordinator, former dallas cowboys QB Coach DAVID LEE, isn't getting WAY more credit than Nutt for that huge win. He was brilliant in keeping LSU's defense off balance with the hurry - up quick snaps, half back and direct snap passes from DMac, trick plays lining up casey dick as a wide out, constant formation changes including multi variations of the Wild Hog, well timed play action used at the right times, and confusing the LSU Def Coord by sidelining McFadden at unexpected times (genius). On top of all this, Lee has Casey Dick (who at this point last year I thought might possibly be the worst passer I've ever seen at Arkansas next to Robert Johnson) playing like a respectable, above-average SEC QB now. The week before at Miss St, Dick tied a school record for passing efficiency, and in the LSU game he was CLUTCH. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him firing rocket passes right on the money and making 3rd down conversions when we needed him to. A far cry from last year's game against LSU that we may very well have won if Dick hadn't thrown 4 straight incompletions to wide open guys in the last minutes of the game on our last drive when we didn't have the option of running it due to the clock. It's seemed for a while now that Arkansas' offense would be unstoppable if we could just add a little balance with an average passing game that could open up our explosive running game - nothing amazing, just a decent QB that could complete 50% of his passes, not turn it over, and convert when needed. What did you see Casey Dick do Friday? Completed 50% of his passes with no INTs and came through on 3rd and 4th. What were we? Unstoppable. We could have been playing like that all season if Lee had gotten on board earlier and had time to get Dick to where he is now before the regular season.
I would say most arky fans don't HATE Nutt or think that he is a bad leader or coach necessarily, but just feel, like I do, that he has had 10 years to get a good recruit class in and get us a SEC and/or National Championship, and just hasn't been able to get it done - I have so many heart-breaking memories of watching us choke in huge games this past decade. Although it does seem like the past 2 seasons things really started looking up for us and Nutt might actually be able to lead us to a BCS bid - which is why everyone thinks we're stupid for wanting him gone. However, most of us arky fans attribute the success in the past 2 seasons not to anything Nutt has done, but to the matured and improved play of Dmac and Jones and the addition of an offensive coordinator. Really it's a shame Nutt didn't get an OC that would make him look this good way earlier in his HC run at arkansas - who knows maybe we would have made it to a Nat Champ Game.
If that isn't enough, then these these points should pretty much explain why the general sentiment for Nutt among ark fans isn't very good right now:
- 7 bowl bids since his first year in 98' - we only won 2 - best bowl bids were Cotton and Capital One - Never had a BCS bowl bid
- We have only finished 3 of 10 seasons as a ranked team - never better than #15
- We have never won a SEC Championship under him - been there twice and choked (The loss at tennessee made me wna cry - we had it won and the QB fumbled WHILE TRYING TO RUN OUT THE CLOCK, tenn recovered, kicked, won)
- He's stubborn - wanted to be the head coach AND call the plays (bad idea for a coach so conservative and predictable as an offensive strategist) - Hell it took him 8 years to hire an offensive coordinator and he only did so reluctantly before his 9th year to seal the deal for high profile recruits Mustain and Williams by bringing Gus Malzhan on board, and because fans were screaming bloody murder for the football program to hire one. I can't believe no one has mentioned this. Ole Miss better hope he doesn't get an ego and decide he wants to be head coach AND offensive coordinator for them too, because if he does they are gna realize real quick how easily stopped nutt's predictable offense is.
- After all the anticipation and effort spent on getting Mustain, Williams, and their high school HC Malzhan, they all pack their bags and high tail it out of there after only one year - leaving fans' hopes for a national champ run crushed, and causing much speculation as to why the three felt they had a poor future at Arkansas, even though they went 10 - 3 in 06. Many feel it was Nutt's responsibility as HC to do all in his power to accomodate these high calibur players and keep them on board for the long haul.
- He's never developed a respectable or threatening passing game. Nor has he been able to feature a talented pass style quarterback. The best QB he coached was Matt Jones and he wasn't even really a true QB (hence why he plays WR in the NFL) - he was just a really big really atheletic white guy that could scramble like crazy and make some decent throws. IMO, Matt Jones saved Nutt's ass on a lot of occassions by just taking the snap and making something happen when Nutt's run run run run run game plan was getting stopped. We probably would have won a lot more with Jones if Nutt had told him to TUCK THE F'N BALL IN WHEN GOIN FOR AN ALL OUT SCRAMBLE - he'd go running down the field holdin the football in one hand like it was the olympic relay torch. Needless to say the NFL didn't put up with that BS when Matt got to Jacksonville; he learned to put the white nuckle eagle claw on that ball real quick lol.
So to sum it all up, I'm glad Arkansas is moving in a new direction to get a head coach with more creativity who is not so ultra-conservative and can bring some balance to arkansas' really one-dimensional offense. I can't believe more people don't think this was a good move for Ark. Ole Miss thinks they are getting a diamond in the ruff which really cracks me up. I'll laugh when Nutt tries to bring his smashmouth 90% run offense into Ole Miss and think its gna work without Mcfadden and Felix and all the massive arkansas offensive lineman that get nice and beefy in U of A's ridiculously expensive football facilities. Good luck Ole Miss, you can expect to see endless runs up the middle, bout 12 passes a game, and plenty of failed 3rd down conversions.
