Barry Bonds was indicted on Federal perjury and obstruction of justice charges today, for making false statements to a Federal Grand Jury investigating the BALCO steroids distribution ring. The common belief is that Bonds is in some real trouble, as the Feds don't wait this long to file an indictment unless they've been spending a great deal of time compiling mountains of evidence. Several HOF voters have said they would no longer vote for him to get in. Thoughts... impressions?

This has been going on for what seems to be a really long tme. Maybe we will finally hear the truth about some of it. I'm not sure about the HOF. Does he belong there?

I don't think so. He was a shoo-in if he'd just stayed clean. May have eventually broken the home run record anyway. But, he made a choice to cheat; and he bears the responsibility for that. He deserves whatever consequences and repercussions come from that choice. The voters I heard said he ruined his own life; and his off-the-field exploits would keep him out of the Hall; and someone like him had no business representing MLB beside all those guys that kids look up to, and consider heroes. That would be my assessment, too. He's been suspended from playing already. IMHO, what he's done is 10 times worse than what Rose did. Rose's actions didn't pad his own stats, or give him an unfair advantage over other players. I thought it was great that the HOF decided to accept the HR ball with the asterisk on it; despite Bonds threats to sue, and keep all his other memorabilia out of the Hall. I hope they use it as a display to kids of what's wrong with steroids and sports.

Steroids are something I really disapprove of. I do not think he needs to be in the HOF. I think of him as a cheater. Whatever he did in baseball, it needs to be said that he did it with the help of steroids.

I was about to post the same thing in response to her question about Bonds and the HOF, and I agree 100%.......If Rose betting on baseball kept him out of the HOF (which had no bearing on how he performed while playing), then Bonds definitely doesn't deserve to get in (since what he did definitely had an impact on his ability to perform while playing).

I want "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and Rose. And on a side note, Bonds said a couple of weeks ago if the asterick wasn't taken off the ball, he would boycott the ceremony. Might not have to worry about it now Barry.

I'm all for a zero tolerance policy in all sports. Make it known from the beginning, if you do drugs, steroids, etc., you are gone. No questions, no if's, and's, or but's. I think that all players should have mandatory monthly drug tests that occur randomly during each month.

I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Joking about the Paul Byrd hall of fame remark of course, but I think the Paul Byrd situation symbolizes a couple of things. One, it shows how wide spread steroid use must have been that even a 75mph junk ball pitchers uses it. It also symbolizes the lame attempts by MLB to crack down on steroid use. They have caught a couple of minor league players I have never heard about and a 75mph junk ball pitcher.

Yeah, it looks like BALCO did a booming business... and not just with MLB players. Imagine, too, that there must be other companies that athletes have used. BALCO is just the biggest and most infamous.

It' almost accepted fact now that barry did steroids and its a shame, put a damper on one if not the biggest record in world sports.

Why doesnt the NFL take steroid use as seriously, didnt shawn merriman (sp?) get caught taking steroids and still get the mvp for defensive player of the year?

Sometimes I think if there really not serious about policing steroid use they should encourage it and just see how insanely powerful and fast these guys can get. Maybe like a steroid league. . .

And you just got a High 5 my friend for making me laugh. Bonds is an arrogant SOB that would make even Spurrier blush with the way he shows his false bravado.

I'm relieved to see this... i was very concerned that Barry was going to get away with it, and MLB would just sweep it under the rug, give him his spot in the HOF and pretend like the steroid thing never happened. I hope Barry gets jail-time, proving that celebrities aren't above the law.

Either he has the most loyal trainer in the world or bonds really didn't know he took some juice of some sort.
