STARKVILLE — Scotty Hopson, Mississippi State’s top basketball recruit in the class of 2008, has said he will not sign with MSU in the early signing period after all.
That’s according to two media outlets — The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal and ScoutHoops.com — which spoke with Hopson late Tuesday night.
“I’m still focused on Mississippi State,” Hopson told The Courier-Journal. “I’m just not ready to sign right now.”
Hopson told The Clarion-Ledger Tuesday afternoon that he would sign on Friday.
Today starts an eight-day early period during which high school seniors can sign binding letters of intent with their colleges of choice. The regular period for basketball signings starts April 16, 2008 and ends May 21, 2008.
Hopson is a 6-foot-6 forward from University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville, Ky. He’s one of the elite prospects in the nation for the class of 2008 and has been orally committed to Mississippi State for over a year.
State is expecting signings today from Northeast Lauderdale star forward Romery Osby and Hargrave Military Academy guard Dee Bost.
