Well, they said on the hogs talk radio yesterday that before the tennessee game the board of trustees for the UofA had a vote on nutts job with 10 members.
Four said they want him gone, four want him to stay and two are undecided. Nutt knew of this before the game and if you notice he was not his usual animated self before the game. Not making excuses for our playing but i know this will effect the rest of the season. The players have to know by now.
If he does go who will replace him? I know he's not the best coach but what awesome coach would come to arkansas after all the BS thats gone on lately? We already have trouble recruiting players out of our own state, considering we have the smallest population in our state out of all the SEC states we could be in alot of trouble in coming years.
Im worried if Nutt goes we'll loose any good potential recruits over the next few years and bring in a coach who may be even worse . . . and become the new doormat for the sec.

I don't really think you have anything to be worried about. If all else fails, it is an SEC school, which is a draw for good players and coaches alike. If you have a half way decent AD that knows what to look for in a good coach, you'll get one. But, if you're like us, and you have an absolutely ridiculous AD that would rather pinch dollars than pay a little more for a worthwhile HC, you might be in trouble. There's no doubt that Nutt is pretty good at recruiting, but if the AD does some smart shopping, the new HC should be able to pick up right where Nutt left off. There are alot of good draws for recruits in AR, you should be fine

Picking up where the fired coach left off is never a good thing.

All I meant was that if the administration does it's job well enough, they should be able to draw a great coach to arkansas that can come in and recruit just as well if not better than Nutt. It may take a year or two to get the ball rolling full steam, but with the scandal that's going on there now, it would probably be better to get rid of Nutt and put it behind them quick and move on.

Theres our problem though, we have a new AD. Frank Broyles is old school and probably does need to retire, but he's the only reason arkansas is competitive in almost every sport.
Does anyone know much about this new guy?
Arkansas will be fine. You have the only major college football program in the state. We have Miss State and Southern. Every time we cough they laugh.
As OxfordReb mentioned. Just don't get cheap. You'll get what you pay for. We decided to go to Sam's Club and we got an Orgeron. Yeah, I know, it's cheap, but it won't win no matter how you twist the dials.

We have enough money to pay any coach we want. We have the best facilities in the SEC. Even though we hate our coach, we still fill the stadium with over 70,000 fans and attract ESPN(3 times) and another national broadcasts with regularity. Our own state produces talent. Nutt is losing four and five stars each year.
If a new coach doesn't believe we'll support him, he is crazy. He needs to go to a big BBall game and watch our fans go nuts for a BBall team coaches by someone with a less than impressive resume. He needs to talks to Dave Van Horn about the fact we lead the nation in attendance in baseball.
A smart coach will realize we're desperate for something to support. Also, what will we lose by Nutt leaving? Horrible game day coaching? Mediocre recruiting? A 40-40 SEC record? An embarrassment of off-field issues?
You are not a Razorback fan, you are a Nutt fan.

Im bleed razorback red, I support them in everything. That is why im so worried about the program. I am a nutt fan, he's a great man who all of the players admire. This isnt the pro's, these young men need direction in life not just football. Im for getting rid of him if we have a better alternative, and we may have to be competitive in the SEC.
I attended every home game this season, I believe I was more of a razorback fan supporting nutt during the season than all those who wear black shirts and rent planes saying fire nutt flying over the stadium. You dont think the players saw that, the recruits who attended the games heard the boo's? I was horribly dissapointed in all the other "fans" who did this.
What coaches are available right now? Would they be smart to come to a program where the coach won 10 games last year, so far is having a winning season and we scream for his head? I stress these points because im such a fan that I want us to be the best.

If anything, recruits will be MORE likely to come to Arky if Nutt's gone. They see all the BS and turmoil his decisions have caused. They couldn't care less who started it, or whose fault it is... they just won't want to be a part of anything like that; and won't go somewhere they think might even have the slightest chance of ruining their college and potential pro careers. Don't think they're not aware that the off-season issues probably cost DMac the Heisman Trophy. If the same team was on the field as last year, with the likely progression of Mustain at QB, they'd have been tough to beat this year. Nutt is ultimately responsible for that entire fiasco. Even though Mustain's mom is an interfering c-word, Nutt created that problem with his and other coaches promises and recruiting practices. I don't see recruiting as being much of a problem with Arkansas's proximity to Texas. Plenty of prospects to go around.

His teams admire him? I don't see 200 lettermen pulling out ads in the paper supporting him.
Great man? Sure, throwing players and coaches under the bus, making players who don't want to play through a painful injury play anyways, telling players to change the day of the their grandfather's funeral so they can play that Saturday. His Christian wife is even better; she mentioned in an e-mail she was with two people who almost beat to death Mitch Mustain's mom over rent.
Also, do not insult my fanhood. My family donates to the program and the school scholarship fund, I am a season ticket holder, I have been to a couple bowl games, including this last one, and am thinking of going to this one if we even go.
Your post was fine and although I didn't agree, I respected it until you said you were a better fan than the anti-Nutt crowd.

Frankly, I can't believe a pro-Nutt crowd even exists. A new, energetic AD and HC are just what y'all need to put all this behind you. The program needs a fresh face and vision for the future, IMHO. That, as much as anything, will improve recruiting.

I dont know of a few of those instances you spoke of, and what player did he make play through an injury? I think that he couldnt make anyone do something they didnt want to.
I never insulted your fanhood, even though you called me out on not being a razorback fan first. . . i just said i think its not a very supportive thing to do as a fan during the football season to take shots at the head coach, I dont think im better even though I said I believed i was more of a fan, my bad.
Im not trying to start a fight with a fellow fan here, im sure were both have equal amounts of fanhood.
I was just asking what happens from here if we do fire nutt?

"I was just asking what happens from here if we do fire nutt?"
It's easy. Hire Cut. He went back to Tenn and turned around a five win team. He brought Ole Miss to bowls and had one ten win season. If he can do that he can bring y'all a national championship.

If we could get a big name coach like Butch Davis, we could get the recruits and actually compete for a NC. Nutt sneaks up and wins the West every once in a while, but we have no competition in the state.

Yeah. What does happen after a neutering? I admit Nutt isn't the same guy he used to be. But he raised the bar at Arkansas.
Now we're p/o'ed when we don't win 10 games versus just wanting more than 5 wins every other year. We are getting blue-chip players more often. Even if Mustain didn't stay or doesn't pan out at USC.
So the next guy had better be ready to win titles. Because all who bitch about Nutt need at least be consistent in their demand. Versus bitching that he isn't right and then never having a decent replacement in mind. If these "fans" are smart enough to point out flaws, surely they can point out a stronger hire. Right?
Yeah, I defend Nutt's accomplishments. But I also wonder if it isn't best for him and Arkansas to part. Just to clear the air.
It'd be nice to keep the disdain for coaches to the message boards, talk shows, or booing a decision at a game. Those are places where the players don't feel the brunt as much. The Black Shirts and Banners offended most players at the UofA. To me that means future recruits would look at the fan base and think, "Why would I go there?" They say possession is nine-tenths of the law. Then perception must be nine-tenths of the truth. That's just how the world seems to work.
I just hope the next guy is well thought out and realizes what the next steps are. And I hope he has a thick skin. Remember the Citadel.

An interesting comment came forth on ESPN a few weeks ago. A presently unemployed football coach stated that if the job at his college alma mater came to be open, the job was his. The man speaking was Jimmy Johnson.

It seems to me that the talent on the team is less than is possible.
The coaching skills are less than the current talent.
Minus better leadership I cannot see how the team gets much better. It all starts with the CEO--Nutt.
You can play it safe and stay about 6-7 wins a season or you can take a risk. And then you get to ride the roller coaster. Maybe 9-3 or perhaps 5-7 if you choose poorly.
Me- I would take the ride.

Lets face it guys, it is time for Houston Nutt to move on. Black shirts or banners, all that crap aside......just look at the numbers. Would any other coach last a school as long as Nutt has with the same record? My opinion is a big No.
Whatever your personal opinion is of the man, his record speaks for itself. The comment that "Houston is a good man" is cool with me but a good man isn't all that is required to coach a football team, heck most of us here fit the bill and would be football coaches (Well most of us I am sure. :) ). Along with all the drama that has went on as well, it is time to part ways imo.

Good points. . .makes me more confused though, lets just get jimmy johnson and barry switzer and call it a day.
I wonder if Nebraska is still interested in nutt now? Maybe we could just trade him for callahan and see how they do at each others places. . . maybe texas a&m's coach. We dont necessarilly need a big time coach name (John pelphrey has fired up the troops and is still in on some good recruiting) but without a big name could we beat out the other sec teams or big 12's now?

No to Callahan! Jimmy Johnson sounds interesting, but I wonder if his my way or the highway technique works today.
My commentary for replacing Stan Heath on the basketball team works for all sports.
Bring in a guy who can build his offense around what he's got in a given year — in addition to recruiting. Then actually teach the fundamentals of the game. Say.... how to play without being penalized 24 times in one game. Gah!
