Read this on another board...amazing that a player can take one class and be eligible to play. I realize he's already graduated...or at least I hope he has, but this is crazy.
Man...I bet Tebow wishes he was so lucky...he's taking a full load...and carrying a 3.8GPA.

Didn't Leinart only take ballroom dancing his senior year?

Yes. I believe he needed one elective to receiver his degree, and that was it.
Dixon has in fact graduated already.

Actually, according to the article, Dixon hasn't graduated...but is on course to graduate next Spring with a degree in sociology.

To be fair, Tebow's the kind of student who will likely be in the same position by his senior year. He'll probably graduate early. I don't know if that's how Dixon did it; or if Tebow will continue to take legitimate loads after satisfying his requirements, but it's hard to compare a senior and a sophomore that way. I also don't know Dixon's academic history, but if he's about to graduate, he must have taking full loads when he was a sophomore.
It does say something about Tebow, though. As a sophomore with all his other responsibilities, he's putting up better numbers than a senior with a single class. Dixon wasn't even a starter as a sophomore, and only threw for 777 yards. And, he wasn't very good as a junior, either:
2006 ORE 197-322 61.2% 2143 yards 12TD 14INT 120.7

If we want to talk athletics and academics and true student-athletes, you can probably stick the service academy kids before any others. Their schedule is pretty brutal.

Hmmm.. I read an article somewhere else that said he graduated last year? Oh well.

A lot of people ragged on Andy Katzenmoyer when he was at Ohio State for taking Aids awareness and Golf. They all said that he was dumber than a box of rocks but he actually had a 3.5 GPA.

Most athletes take a lighter class in season and take summer school to make up for it.

Emil...I'm not comparing the two...I just couldn't believe that a player could take "one" class, especially billiards, and still be eligible to play football.

UK's Jacob Tamme has already graduated. This isn't out of the ordinary at all. Nothing to see here folks.

it's really not a surprise...Carlyle Holiday (the QB before Brady Quinn at ND) did the exact same thing

Katz was a sociology major after all. We all know those GPAs are often inflated.

I guess it's a reward for staying all 4 years...nothing wrong with that.

Exactly. Leinart dropped in draft stock but he got to hook up with some hotties in his ballroom dancing class in exchange. Cost-benefit analysis says the hotties win because he's going to get paid.
