CBS passes on Iron Bowl
Posted by Birmingham News staff November 12, 2007 12:18 PM
The Nov. 24 Iron Bowl won't be a CBS afternoon game. You can bet on that.
The network with the first choice in picking SEC games chose to air Tennessee at Kentucky at 12:30 p.m. followed by Florida State at Florida at 4 p.m.
That leaves the Auburn-Alabama game to fall to be ticketed as a night game on either ESPN or ESPN2.

It's on ESPN @ prime time. Paul Finebaum just said it on his show...I love it! I remember when the Iron Bowl was ALWAYS a night game on ESPN every single year back in the 1990's.

I can't sleep in on the day of the Iron Bowl. I'll be up at the crack of dawn wearing my Bama gear.
Iron Bowl Week...The best way to describe it: It's my favorite week of the year, and it's also my least favorite week of the year.

So true. I will be driving back down from north carolina from thanksgiving break (5 1/2 - 6 hour drive) on friday. Thats why I say I will get to sleep in haha. It being at night also gives us the chance to tailgate whereas if the game was at 12:30 or 1:30 we'd have to start kinda early.

It also gives all us Alabama and Auburn fans time to tank up to be able to watch these QBs and these offenses. We need to be drunk to sit through that.

Good for the fans sake, bad for the Bama's sake. I don't like playing LSU or Auburn at night.

Good for you guys, but bad for us Vols. Another early game that I will have to start drinking early for. At least I will have the Iron Bowl to watch and entertain me later when I am really hammered.

Man it's gonna be cold! I will have Thanksgiving with the inlaws in Tuscaloosa then drive home to Auburn for the game. Can you say "stuck in traffic all day!"

Thats the only bad part of it being a night game......temp dropping when the sun goes down. This really works out for all of us.....both games get nationally televised.

Its gonna be a freezing cold battle between two terrible QB's trying to clean up the mess they've made this season. I think the night home game atmosphere gives us the edge.
Oh well, at least I don't have to drink whiskey with my bacon and eggs anymore.

but if it's a night game, you run the risk of being too hung over to go to church in the morning, no?

I am surprised that CBS passed on the game just because of the Saban vs Tubberville matchup. It is going to be a great game.

--GAME TIME: Saban said Saturday's ULM game was set for 1:30 p.m. to give the team more time to prepare for Auburn.
"I think for a staff and a players' standpoint," Saban said, "finish the game a little earlier and have a little more recovery time for the next game would be my only response to that."
The early kickoff time means UA is not allowed to offer the game on pay-per-view during a certain window, due to other SEC telecasts.
"Is somebody mad?" Saban said. "Are we back at LSU now where if you don't play at night, we don't have enough time to get ready for the game by drinking and eating all day and all that? If that's the case, I'll be glad to do it at night."

We are better off that we were not chosen. It is going to be even more exciting at night, and we will not be plagued with the constant string of annoying commercials on CBS

Night games on tv are some-what depressing. The only reason I state this is because it marks the end of a good day of college football.
