View Full Version : Embarrassing loss for Auburn

Don't get me wrong here, I'm a huge Auburn fan and stand behind them through thick and thin. However, never have I been more disappointed in them than after Saturday's game. That was a definition 'lay down and quit' performance by Auburn. To allow Georgia to score 21 points in 7:00 minutes is ridiculous. Georgia played a great game, but we were still in the game, and momentum was leaning our way early in the 3rd quarter. Than a few bad things happen and it's almost like Auburn just said "oh well we might as well go home now, better luck next year". Am I the only one who feels this way? I haven't seen any other posts on the subject. Someone needs to wake this team up during this bye week before the Iron Bowl. Because believe me the boys across the state are going to be trying to make Auburn lay down and quit too. I'd hate to end the season with 2 losses like that. Thoughts?

it didn't look like you guys quit to me. the other team wanted it more and just beat you. Richt is working some real motivational magic lately.

I actually thought the exact same thing; but AU isn't my team, and I didn't want to start a thread that appeared like I was bashing anyone. I'll tell you the point at which it took on that look, too. I don't remember which one it was; but after one of Cox's int.'s, it looked like all the wind went out of AU's sails. I mean, it actually looked to me like the defense said, "Look, we're out here killing ourselves to keep us in this game; but, if you're just going to keep giving them the ball back, and not help us out, we give.". And, there's something to be said for that. Those guys need to rest too; and it has to be discouraging to have to keep running back out on the field after repeated failed drives or turnovers. I also think we're talking about the same point in the game; because it looked like AU was going to match UGA all night right up until that point.

Sometimes there is a point where everything starts to go wrong in a game. And it is very discouraging for the defense to keep being called upon to bail out a stumbling offense. And VERY tiring. A game gets out of control when the defense has to do all the work.

Our "D" has been in that situation alot this year.

They have been a great deal. Bama knows something about that subject.

I have had time to go through several emotions during and after the game, and perhaps they did 'laid down and quit' after those INTs. I dont know, but it sure took the wind out of my sails. What I do know is that these fellows have had a very long, hard season without any rest. Everyone in the SEC has! AU has been on the road for all of the big games with no bye week until now, and for this young team I just believe it took a toll on them. UGA played great and I'm not saying we would have beat them if we were well rested the way we played. What I am saying is that I, personally, am proud of their total effort this year. I'm sure no one is more hurt by this loss than the coaching staff and players. When I woke up this morning I had no bumps and bruises and the taste of defeat was the last thing on my mind (although I reflected throughout the day). I'm sure that was the exact opposite for the team.

"Still" Proud to Be an Auburn Tiger!

If I remember correctly, I heard that AU hasn't had a bye week yet??

If so, I think that explains a lot. Playing that many consecutive games can be a real physical and mental drain. And then you walk into the most hostile Sanford stadium I've ever seen against a team that's peaking emotionally. Once the tide turned, I could certainly understand why it would be difficult to muster up again.

Auburn's offense doesn't have many excuses for the turnovers, etc. But on the other side of the ball, I think our offense got lucky on a couple of big plays. Two of those Sean Bailey catches were freakish...we probably hit either of those 10% of the time. I

I still think Auburn is a good team...the bye week should be extremely helpful and you would have hung with us if you'd had some rest.

When I saw the TV announcers dancing in the booth along with the UGA band and players, I knew that atmosphere had to be nuts!

I've been to tons of great games, but that is the most frantic atmosphere I've ever seen at UGA...when the players ran out in black, i thought the stands were going to collapse. And the energy didn't let up.

Maybe Tubby was counting his Aggieland cash while he was getting outcoached.

On a serious note, the Iron Bowl takes on super proportions this year, moreso than in previous years, I think. Nick Saban knows that his honeymoon will be seriously damaged after the embarrassing Croom whipping if he doesn't stop the bleeding against Auburn. But, on the other hand, the Aubies were also embarrassed, albeit by a better team than Miss State, and they will be wanting to make a winning statement in closing out the year. This game has the makings of a monster!

I didn't watch the whole game...but I thought the same thing as well. On Auburn, I would be upset if I were a Tiger. You guys have a great defense and an offense that's capable of putting up points...yet from week to week...you never know what team's gonna show up. That's a coaching problem...not a team problem...IMO.

Georgia is a great team and they played a great game. I think AU did get tired at the end and the defense just couldnt keep up any more.

The 'O' for AU needs a lot of work, especially in the recieving group, its not all BC's fault.

The 'D' has been great but they need to learn to defend the BIG passes, USF, LSU and GA all killed AU with some BIG passes and they couldnt do anything about it. Bama has some BIG TIME recievers and if JPW gets enough time to throw the ball they will kill AU too.

Hello young un. Uncle Rocky is glad to see that have made it back from the long road trip. Uncle Rocky says Auburn should be able to rebound nicely and beat the Bammers.
