View Full Version : Do you think Arkansas and Auburn is better than Bama....

In no way do I think they are better. YET, in both Coaches and AP they get more votes for Top 25 than Bama. Also, How does Auburn get a higher ranking and more votes than Bama. They are practically the same. Both with a home and road loss in the SEC and a loss to another BCS team (Although Bama lost on a neutral site and Auburn lost at home). I know JPW's pass was bad.... but does Bama become a lower than top 35 team?

At this point, who cares? If we want to show the world that we are better than Auburn, then we beat them. If we can't do that, then we aren't better than Auburn. Arkie might be getting more votes now, but no amount of votes is going erase the final score of our game with them. We have no shot at any kind of championship, so our ranking is pretty meaningless.

I care for recruitting sake. It's always easier with a Top 25 ranking.

If a kid won't come here because of our ranking vs Nick Saban....hes not worth it anyway IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong ( I'm sure you will anyway ) but with the kids we have now ( 3rd in the nation recruiting ) did it make a happy damn what we were ranked ?

It does.... Look at Nebraska. As people fall in the rankings kids bail. Plus we are not done. We have some of the biggest recruits still out there. The higher we are the more it shows we are elevating ourselves. Not to mention others could decommit if they feel they can go to another team on the rise. This isn't the 70's and these aren't kids who's grandparents are alumni. Recruitting is very fickle. Your dealing with 17-19 year old boys.

no, most of these kids committed before we ever was ranked. They are committing to play for a coach and program, not a ranking.

This post makes you look like you have no clue what your talking about. Commits are bailing on Nebraska and A&M because they don't know who the coach is going to be next year, not because of their rankings.
If rankings matter so much, how come Notre Dame has the #1 class right now?

But, to say rankings doesn't matter in recruitting is very uninformed. A top 25 team always has an easier time getting recruits.

If Arkansas beats Miss St and LSU (haha) then definitely. If we beat Miss St and lose to LSU, then they'll decide our rankings based on how you do against Auburn. Alabama vs Auburn will be determined in two weeks.

I don't get why people constantly complain about the rankings. Get it done on the field and don't worry about some little number that's supposed to tell you how good you are.

Rankings are usually a direct reflection of the quality of coaching. Better coaches get better recruits which leads to better W/L records, which leads to better rankings.
Better?

This is a question I am gratefully, not obsessed with. I think most of the polls mean about as much as our opinions on this board do. Not very much!

I think that recruiting is more based on the name of the school than the ranking, it wont really matter if Kansas goes undefeated this year and is in the top 5 theres no way theyll out recruit ND or Texas.
Tennessee Ted
11-11-2007, 08:52 PM
Ranking is one small tool that a recruiter can use to sell the school. The chances of a good recruit bailing to Auburn or some other team based solely on the team's ranking is pretty small. If it did happen the recruit was probably not too bright to begin with and would not be a smart football player. That type of player would probably bail for Tennessee and then fail a drug test four times and get kicked off the team.

Ok..... I guess I am wrong. Seeing as I have talked to recruits and they mention this as a factor (see UT 2006 recruitting rankings after 05 season). You know rankings are based on wins and losses. Recruits want to go to winning programs. But if guys from SECTalk say it's wrong. It shall be wrong.
ALso, I love how everyone says they don't obsess on rankings. These are the same ones who want to burn houses down when their team has a low preseason ranking. hahaha

I could really care less what our preseason ranking is. 2000 taught me not to care about those.

rankings matter for next year depending on how you rank this year...the higher you can put your self in position for the next year's preseason rankings...I think they should do away with the preseason rankings and not rank any team until about week 6-8 some where in there

Bama is a few points better than Arkansas at home. It is yet to be seen about Auburn.
The Fighting Sabans got Croomed this weekend and all of the sudden JPW is the worst QB in the league , what will the fans be saying if Tubberville gets them?

This is not all of a sudden. We have been concerned about inconsistency at the QB position all year. We have been up and down and could not rely on a stable offense. It is FAR from sudden.

Slick Rick says that Arkansas should be better than AU and UA because of Jones and McFadden. Slick Rick says that no team should be able to stop this duo. Slick Rick says that Coach Nutt is on his way out if he can't win with these guys. Slick Rick says they are awesome. Slick Rick says that Slick Rick was worried that UT's Defense wouldn't be able to stop them, but Slick Rick says, Coach Chavis and gang found a way.

Arkansas should have been better than last year but Nutt ran off the brains of the operation along with the QB of the future. I can't believe I defended the man earlier in the year. My eyes have been opened. However, I have my doubts that Nutt will be gone. The administration may just dig in their heels to make a statement that flying banners and FOI'ing university phone records and emails will not force them to make a decision. It would set a bad precedent for all of college football. As much as I want Nutt gone, I'll have to say that the fans here have been horrible.

Maybe, but I think the offensive coordinator was the real loss. Malzahn has Tulsa playing for their conference championship. The guy didn't get to run the offense he wanted to last year yet still got us a ten win season. Nutt is back to dictating the offense and we will be lucky to get 7 wins.

Amen. I can't abide by the black shirt wearing vermin. I don't mind fans complaining or booing a coach on occasion. But don't go overboard and make the players feel like you don't support the team.
I too defended Nutt and now wonder if it's time for him to go. I don't think he's the same coach who came to Arkansas and made things better. Which he did.
But to the thread topic. Auburn: Yes, Arkansas: No (begrudgingly) :brick:
