Aqua Dots = DEADLY!

My kids see this commercial and yell "I WANT THAT!" every time (like they do with just about every toy) but after finding this out, I'm SOOO glad we never bought them. Turns out, the Chinese toy maker who produces these Aqua Dots things decided to trim some production costs by changing the adhesive coating on the dots from a safe, non-toxic one to one that the body metabolizes into one of the chemicals in the "date rape" drug.

Here's the problem with making this so public; and actually naming the drug (GHB) that the body breaks it down into. Countless teenagers probably rushed right out and bought those things; and there's no way to discern what a non-lethal or recreational dose is. Kids don't just use this stuff as the date-rape drug... they take it themselves, like they would ecstasy. And, because there's no way to tell what a dose is, kids will likely overdose. They could have simply said it was toxic and potentially lethal. They probably sold as many of those things in the days before they could all be removed from shelves, as they did before the public knew what the problem was.

Well that would make whoever bought them for that borderline retarded cuz it's not the date rape drug that's on the dots. The body metabolizes the adhesive into one of the components of GHB, not the drug itself.

So not knowing which component that is, what your body versus someone else's breakdown rate is for that adhesive & what the affects would be or the damage it could do would be like playing a lottery ticket where your chances of winning are great but all the prizes are things like coma, seizures, aneurysm, heart attack, stroke or death.

There's no 'high' to be had here....you'd be better off playing Russian Roulette. I would think even the most idiotic of thrill seekers would understand that but I see your point.

Actually, all the effects reported thus far have been the same symptoms one would get after taking GHB. Dr. Gupta was on CNN yesterday explaining what had happened so far, and had talked to the researcher who discovered the problem. What happened to the kids is EXACTLY what happens to adults or adolescents on GHB. Only because it was ingested by children is it so dangerous. They got the euphoria and the drowsiness; and eventually several fell into a coma... killing one, so far. The drug isn't actually anything prior to being metabolized in the body. It only turns into GHB once ingested and broken down... and it's straight up dope. These children are overdosing on pure GHB, not a component of it.
