Chancellor Robert Khayat said Wednesday morning that both Athletic Director Pete Boone and football head coach Ed Orgeron are at Ole Miss to stay.

Khayat's comments came in the wake of increasing calls from some Rebel fans and users on Ole Miss sports message boards who say the way to improve the dismal performance of the football team - which is 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the SEC with games left against LSU and Mississippi State - is to fire not only Orgeron, but also Boone. Rumors have also swirled recently about failing contract negotiations between Boone and the university.

"There is no basis for the rumors on Boone being on his way out," Khayat told the university's media advisory board, a group of student journalists, journalism professors and staff members from the Student Media Center. "The success of our athletics teams has absolutely been in a positive direction."

Khayat pointed to the growth of the athletics budget from $8 million in 1995 to $40 million in 2007 as evidence of Boone's good work.

"I think there are a lot of reasons for patting Pete Boone on the back," Khayat said. "The only negative thing I see is this football season. Ole Miss is blossoming."

The chancellor has also been widely quoted lately in state newspapers saying that he has full faith in embattled head coach Orgeron. Khayat stayed with his message Wednesday morning, praising Orgeron's skill for recruiting and for the work he has done attracting top-notch talent to the team so far.

"(Coach O) has a national reputation for being one of the hardest working coaches out there," he said. "He lives on competition."

Khayat also gave Orgeron high marks for his insistence that players perform well both on and off the field.

"Our agreement with him is that we will have an integrity-based athletic program," he said. "Coach O is committed to that. We're committed to Coach Orgeron. I believe that continuity is important."

Integrity, interesting word; unfortunately most of the Ole Miss football players can't spell it.

What a sad thing when a man is to be kept in place because the Chancellor likes him as a friend and has his pride mixed up in the situation. Cutcliffe has one losing season and is out and for all intents and purposes Khayat has guaranteed "O" for a minimum of 5 years and possibly six.

You evaluate a coaches skills by him winning or not, not by how he jumps around showing enthusiasm, and how well he laughs at your old jokes. I can't think of one major football program in the SEC that would accept this level of play.

I still feel Khayat may be surprised by the real power at Ole Miss. If this disaster continues fans will stay away by the thousands costing Ole Miss millions. And don't think for a minute that the wealthy alumni will be sending in those checks with all those 000000's if 4-8 continues, they won't. It may become necessary to launch a full scale boycott next year if this level of play (Northwestern State) continues. I wonder just how many half full stadiums it would take to get a couple of members of the college board to visit his excellency? Khayat speaks with authority, money speaks with more. This ain't over.

Reality check:
Would Vaught have accepted 10-23 at Ole Miss?= NO

Would Bear have accepted 10-23 at Bama?= NO

When you accept failure, you are one.

So, it's cryin' time in Oxford? Don't worry, maybe in 20 years you'll get another Manning to QB your way to a 10-3 season.

Say, Auburn, did you boys manage to get off academic probation? Seems the alumni were really running things, weren't they. The good ole boy network in action.

You know it would be a shame if you guys get caught again by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, death penalty-Unaccredited, but maybe Bama would step in and make it an off campus school so those degrees would still be ACCREDITED. Then you boys could learn to yell, "Roll Tide." Hell, you might even learn to spell it.
