If Coach O gets fired at the end of this season, do you guys really think it will make any difference on winning games for the Rebels? Real honest opinions please.......

It totally depends upon who y'all are able to hire IMHO.
I am not sure who will be available at the end of this year, but I do think Ole Miss can find someone better.
It will be a bad situation if Ole Miss and MSU go coach shopping in the same year, however. Especially since Tennessee could also be looking.

Go out and get Mike Price from UTEP. He'll win at Ole Miss.

I my opinion you will win games but it will take time. I think a better coach can make all the difference not just coaching but recruiting as well. I know Ole Miss will be able to get a descent coach that I am sure will be able to start turning it around and putting some W's in the column:thumpsup:
Dont give up hope it will get better without a doubt

Could Mike Bellotti coach in the SEC? The guy is 57, but he's doing a pretty good job at Oregon. And I like the idea of Ole Miss having 37 different uniform possibilities.

Id say go for Wake Forest's coach, or find a winner at D-1 AA or D-II. They would be experienced at making some of the under the radar talent you guys have play up to their potential.
They make their living off 1-2 star recruits with a 3 every few years.

When people get a sore throat, they automatically think they need a cough drop or chloraseptic spray to fix their pain in a hurry. They don't take time to notice the sinus drainage that is the root cause of the sore throat. Instead of fixing it right with an antihistamine, they continue to have the sore throat and chug Hall's and peppermints for weeks.
Likewise, if we ditch Coach O, it's only a temporary fix. If we get another coach in here, he'll more than likely give us another losing season, and so on and so on. We have to fix the ROOT, and that root is Pete Boone. I think we get rid of Boone, and if we find the right guy, all the other problems will take care of themselves.

Agreed, but what pull does he have on the field other than being over the head coach?

Those coaches may make a living off of 1 and 2 star athletes, but they don't play an SEC schedule either......
IMHO going after a Div 1AA or Div II coach is not the answer at all.

Worked for other teams, hell its working for Vanderbilt, they are slowly improving and have become a legitimate threat in the East. They may not win it, but they can screw over the bigger guys and keep them from winning it.

The way I look at it, everything. He hired the coach, the coach recruited the players. If he would have made a different hire, you'd be looking a completely different team. And the team would have to be better cause it can't get much worse than it is right now with regards to us being in the SEC. No conference wins is so sad. :whaa:

Keep him. This would be a bad year to get a big name to Ole Miss. Look at the openings coming up at the end of the year. Most likely Michigan, Arkansas, Nebraska, Arizona, Texas A&M. Maybe even Tennessee. For that matter Joe Paterno could keel over at any moment, and Bobby Bowden couldn't be far behind.
It will also be a bad year to get a big name to Arkansas. Our only hope is that the Butch Davis rumors have some validity. The other name being thrown around is Mike Leach. Yuck
The unacceptable quality of Ole Miss' football team is directly the responsibility of the head coach. There is no reason why Ole Miss cannot compete with LSU, Alabama and Auburn. The Rebels have lulled in mediocrity for far too long and coach O just isn't getting it done. The talent in that region is rich, the recruiting needs to get better. The coaching needs to get better.
The general consensus about the major level of parity in the SEC this year is that it is a result of the high quality of coaching. The successful programs owe their success to good coaching. Conversely, bad football programs can blame their failure on bad coaching. Coach O needs to go. I'm sure that everyone in Mississippi is ready to see the Rebels contend again, and I for one would like to see more out of that program as well.
I don't even think that other coaching positions opening up would even be a negative factor. Ole Miss is a great place to coach. It's an SEC school, with a great fan base, and a desire to win. They are also more patient than the Alabama's of the world. Any coach would love that job, it offers a great opportunity to take the reigns of a program that could easily be a contender in the SEC west with the right leadership.

Give Orgeron one more year. Mike Price or Tater Tot Bowden could do pretty good jobs there.

Coach O will be with us next year. At least I hope so. Why? I don't want boone to hire another coach. I think O is the best coach boone(due to his unwaranted ego) has the ability to hire. If boone hires another then we have to wait four more years for the coach to prove his worth. Coach O is now on a yearly basis. Once boone leaves then let the new ad make the decision.
