View Full Version : Arkansas shuns TV

The Ark v USC game on Nov. 3 will not be on TV. This is the first time since the creation of pay per view that the Gamecocks will not be broadcast in some manner. The reason is that the Pigs scheduled the game in an odd time slot and refused to change gametime so that pay per view could pick it up. (Spurrier wanted to change the time). So what is the reason?

No. A school gets to keep ALL of the money from PPV, the Network broadcasts are put into a pot and split 12 ways. At $25 - $30 a pop you can make some serious jack. I think Bama makes about 2 mil off a PPV.

I think that is what Wayz was saying. Broyles is refusing to let the game even be on PPV. I hope we beat the crap out of them for that alone.:glare:

Network v. PPV I can understand but having a choice whether to be on TV at all or not & choosing not to?? WTF is that? My vote was for Arky thinking our trend of struggling in afternoon games will continue might be off...thinking on it for a bit, I have to think it might be because Broyles, Nutt & Co. want to limit as much as possible the 'Fire Nutt' signs & other backlash to be seen as much as they can. What other reason could there be? It just doesn't make sense.
Also, McFadden isn't out of the Heisman just yet either. With our run D being ranked as low as it is & given D-Mac's success against us in the past, you'd think Arkansas would want to get him as much exposure as possible down the stretch to at least give him the best shot at it as possible.

I don't understand why he wouldn't let it be put on PPV, unless the Hog fans wouldn't buy iy. Reading their boards, many seem to think they won't even have a sellout.

I read somewhere they are afraid no one will come to the game if they put it on PPV. Don't know if that is the real reason though.

Broyles did the same thing when UK played out there in 2002. The logic at the time was that the game may not have been a sellout and he wanted to encourage all hog fans to come out to the game in person.

The game will sellout. SEC games always do. Broyles has some stupid policy against PPV games at home whether there is a sellout or not. I'm glad he's leaving, and I hope he takes Nutt with him.

The Georgia AD did the same thing for the Ole Miss-Georgia game. They have a standing policy of playing in the early afternoon when the game isn't on TV instead of moving the game back to a night game where PPV is allowed. I am glad that they didn't put the game on TV because I wouldn't have wanted to pay $40 for it.

^$40, really?? Wow, when I have to pay for a USC game up here on DishNetwork, it's only like $25 or so....I wouldn't pay $40 but I can justify the $25 range with no problem. Put it on the bill, I'll pay it at the end of the month!

It probably is cheaper through satellite. I have to go through cable. The Ole Miss-Auburn game is gonna cost me $30 if I wasn't going to a Halloween party.

To be honest, I dont particularly like it either but Broyles is not the first to black out a game to insure a sell out. I have tickets to the game but live 300 miles from Fayettville. If it had been on TV I probably would have stayed at home to watch the game because I am disgusted with our sorry-ass fan base right now. Our team seems to be playing with a purpose now so it should be entertaining.

I agree, however I think the game would have been a lock if ya'll were still in the running for the SECE. If we had a coach we could likely be undefeated right now. That's what makes me ill. Lost to Bama and Auby on the last play of the game. Had UK beat, but I can live with that one. Nutt has to go.

Nutt aint got nothing to do with it. I think not having our top 2 receivers and our starting TE has more to do with it. Arkansas would be 6-0 and in the top 5 had this not be the case. Hell if we just had Monk we would be 6-0 I feel. Take Tim Tebow or Percy Harvin from Florida and see how good they are. Boyd from USC, Keith Brown-DJ Hall or Grant from Alabama, Ainge form UT. Stafford from Georgia, M. Flynn, Williams or the big DLman at LSU. Arkansas has lost 3 players that are as important to them as these. Just bad luck. We would be right on track if not for these issues. If not for Nutt we would still be struggling agains SMU.

While there are evidently some time restrictions for PPV, the game does not have to be at night. USC has played several day games on PPV.
Also, the cost on our cable system is about $25 for ESPN Gameplan which is where we would get it in Georgia. I do not know what the cost would be in SC for just the one game.

As much as I'd like to believe you it just ain't true. I supported Nutt until the Auburn loss. I never thought he hung the moon or anything, but was real tired of all the negative crap surrounding the program. I can see by the play calling this year that Malzahn was obviously the brainchild last year. We run up the middle most of the time to the point McFadden is now hurt. We rarely run out of the wildcat anymore. McFadden hasn't passed the ball much at all. Marcus Monk's injury has certainly hurt, but I don't think he would be the difference between 4-3 and 7-0.

Well I think it is true if you look at it logically. Do you not think Marcus Monk, Cleveland and Tuck would be worth and extra 3 points a game? Because thats all it would have took for us to be 6-1. Kentucky was beat with 6 minutes to play before the roughing the kicker penalty. Who knows? I dont beleive a second that we would have 3 losses. I am sure the opinion of Nutt would be much different if we are 6-1. Most fans opinions sway from week to week with out looking at a situation logically.

Kentucky was better than Arkansas without our top 3 receivers. Thats true. With them, I dont beleive so. I may sell my ticket and watch it on TV. Not sure yet. It will most likely be a sell out. All of the SEC games have been despite some disappointment. Last game in Fayettville so I will probably go. Kentucky is a good team but with out that fumble before half it would have been 27-7 and game over. I know, shoulda, coulda, woulda but thats what I beleive.

I don't sway. I have always thought in the past he was an adequate coach, but I look back and see that since his first year he has always had at least one playmaker to save his bacon. Cedric Cobbs, Matt Jones, Darren McFadden. I was really hoping the cancers from Springdale would fall on their faces this year, but it has been us instead. All the discontent around the program is sickening. I don't see it going away even if Nutt wins out. I feel sorry for the guy the way the fans have treated him, I really do. I just think that the damage has been done and cannot be repaired. He should never have hired Malzahn last year to get those recruits. All the emails and text messages don't mean crap to me. I just want to be better than mediocre on occasion. You could argue that we were last year, but look how we finished. People obviously can't all rally behind Nutt and never will. Let's have a change and get everyone on board again.
