But there were only two when the ref signaled TD...which is when the clock is suppose to stop...and the clock operator did let another sec go before stopping it. I do agree, Grit...it is time to let it go. I just wanted to hear a LSU fan not be a homer and admit it was a reckless play. GeauxTo...one of the biggest LSU homers on the board, admitted it. The play worked perfectly...without a hitch...and still, only 2 seconds remained. There's a lot of "what ifs" but in the end...LSU won and if you're an LSU fan, you're thinking, Les has huge kahunas...if you are most anyone else, you're thinking, he's gonna take one gamble too many and it's gonna cost the Tigers. I hope not...I want to see an SEC team in the NC Game...although, if it's the Gators vs Tigers in the SEC CG...all bets are off...;)

No crawfishing here. Here is my post concerning the topic (Yesterday's thread: "What is the big deal about the Les Miles play call? (http://www.sectalk.com/boards/sec-football-talk/22198-what-big-deal-about-les-miles-play-call.html)") Great pic TrueGrit!
Crawfish said. . .
The big deal is that it . . .
1) Could have been intercepted - game over
2) Could have bobbled the ball enough (incomplete) to where time completed ran out - game over
3) Yeah, there looked like there would have been maybe a second or two remaining, but it took over 50 seconds off the clock just to run that one play.
Hey, I'm just glad we won the game. I don't give a rip about what the media or other opposing fans are saying, but I am hoping that Miles and staff will handle clock management better in the future. I want our team to be put in the position where the % is high that we have the oppotunity to win the game on situations like against AU. I think the field goal would have been in the high % range; the forunate play at the end would not be. But I'll say it again, sometimes its better to be lucky than real smart. Bottom line: LSU 7-1 and #3 in the BCS and in the driver's seat to acheive ALL the preseason goals.

There was ONE second on the clock when the announcers were going crazy and showed the clock saying how crazy of a call it was..........
True Grit

But it wasnt that crazy. When Les called the play there were about 18 seconds on the clock. The players just took a long time to get set.

The players had been takeing a long time to get set all game. He should have known that after the two blown timeouts that half.

Our team definitely needs to work on getting the plays to the huddle and getting set.

LSU fans is missing the point. This duffus put LSU's season on the line. I really think he lost sense of all time and pantic. But he too big of a Chickens**t to admit it. That cockey ass attitude is going to get his butt driven out of the Bayou country. Drunk Cajans don't put up with that crap.
IMO If Saban, Meyer, Spurrier called the same FREAKING play they would be called geniuses. Again, the play call was not the problem only the CLOCK MANAGEMENT. geezz

I personally saw nothing wrong with his playcalling. He had plenty of time left even if it was bobbled or whatever. The biggest risk came from it being picked, but it was thrown where either the WR would get it or no one would get it. LSU had the matchup on the outside they wanted and took advantage of it to get the win, good on 'em.

Clock management is the MOST predictable circumstance in any given football game. It's happened twice already to Alabama and almost cost us the Ole Miss game.
The next time it happen Saban destroyed his headset.
My impression of the LSU / AU game in the final minute. LSU wasted the clock with two running plays at mid-field before the clock dropped beneath the 1 minute mark. Then LSU didn't have the play ready or the team wasn't set at the line.
Flynn is getting them into position but your staff isn't giving him the best opportunity to milk the clock.
Then Flynn makes a dumb throw over the WRONG shoulder of the WR and he saves LSU's season. The timing wasn't so bad, but the risk just wasn't worth it.
And regardless of the situation. Flynn is definitely the best QB for LSU. There's absolutely no debate.

I agree. Les is just a guy that will be criticized no matter what he does. Even when he leads us to a National Title I feel he will still be criticized.

Are you kidding me? Les isnt nearly as cocky as some other coaches. I remember once when Saban was here and we lost he actually blamed a player(said his name to the media) instead of taking the blame himself.

I was THERE in Tiger stadium, around the 15 yard line in the upper deck (nose bleed). From my vantage point the pass was caught at the endzone nearest me but across the field. I knew that the clock was winding down and we were all SCREAMING for Matt Flynn to get the play off. Now, was a pass play with 18 seconds to go a bad idea? Not if the team had gotten set and it was thrown for short yardage to get better FG position. IMHO it was very risky to go for the endzone when a FG would win the game. I am pretty sure Miles was expecting the team to get set quickly and that he'd have 5 seconds on the clock for his place kicker. Indeed, time management was lousy at best and I'm not sure who to blame.
If 100 other coaches had been put in that situation, 99 of them would have set themselves up for a FG with a short yardage pass and a time out or a WR out of bounds to stop the clock. 35% of the time this short yardage type play would have have worked and a chip shot FG would win the game. Another 35% of the time, the play would have resulted in an incomplete pass and the FG kicker would have a long one but he'd make it 7/10 attempts. Bottom line is 60-70% of the time the conservative approach will result in a Win. The pass into the endzone with 18 seconds on the clock would only probably work 30% of the time, even with a great QB and wide reciever. The chances are just too good for an interception, a bobble, or a ref slow to blow the whistle. It really was a crazy, ballsy move...but it WORKED. That's the bottom line. It freaking worked and LSU got the "W".
Is Miles a loose cannon? I dunno, but I tell you this, LSU football has been way more exciting this year than my beloved Tennessee Volunteer program. The one saving grace is that I have SOMEONE to root for here in Baton Rouge.

Everyone's out to get Les and LSU aren't they?
All of you LSU fans have admitted that some of his play calling this year has been risky and ballsy, ANY coach that takes those type of risks is gonna get criticized. Tubbs would DEFINITELY get criticized for a call like this. If any coach, everyone loves to criticize Tubby.

Well, since we can't seem to put the decision to sleep, can we just put Les to sleep instead?
