Who will be the first to leave!?

At this point who is the better coach?

Who is better deserving of a coaching job ''right now at there age now''

I think bowden leaves 1st, Bowdens the better all time...but id rather have joe as my coach right now!

Bobby Bowden will step down after Joe Pa does or when he dies, whichever comes first.

I think Joe Pa is the better coach too. He has also been screwed over more than any other coach, IMO. 5 undefeated seasons and only one NC in those seasons?

You might as well have called this thread: Class Act Or Piece Of Garbage...

And Bowden isn't better all-time... he just joined a Pop Warner conference to rack up easy wins, conference titles, and NC's. It worked too, until great teams started joining the ACC. Now, they've been reduced to also-rans.

He once made the statement that his team wasn't going down to the competition, but the other teams were coming up. I am not so sure about this statement anymore, given the strength of the other teams in the ACC. I think they are going down along with the other teams in the conference.

Oh, and as far as who will leave first, it will be the one that is forced out. Neither will leave as long as they are healthy. Both want to be the winniest coach and you can't be that by retiring.

Conniving is a better adjective... it was a calculated move. He had a chance to join the SEC, and declined, because he knew his team's chances of being successful every year were slim compared to his chances in the ACC.

This is such a cowardly act. It is FUN to play very powerful teams. If every team you played was a cupcake, you would soon lose the joy of winning. It wouldn't mean anything anymore. A schedule in which you are not assured of a victory in each game, captures a lot more about what football is. Exciting, anything is possible, and we can get there if we want it enough.

 Great post GU! You couldn't have stated it any better. IMHO, there is NO comparison between JoePa and Bobby Bowden. JoePa is pretty much the figure head for all of college football. Anyone whom is 82 yrs old, runs 3 miles a day, and has been coach of the same team for 42 years is legend status in my book. It'll be a very long time before you see a class act old school coach like Paterno again. JoePa will die coaching at PSU. He won't retire and the Penn State athletic department won't fire him no matter how horrible they might be. I was happy as hell when JoePa and his Nittany Lions beat Bowden and F$U in the Orange bowl a few years ago. JoePa has to be close to regaining the all time wins record from Bowden. I know they are only a few victories apart. But like GU said, the ACC was horrible up into a few years ago and now FSU is looking very average. How many players have gotten into trouble at F$U under Bowden? What has he done to them personally? JoePa runs a tight ship. Just this past summer, a few of his players got into some trouble and instead of just punishing them, he wanted to set the record straight and send a message. Now, the entire Nittany Lions football team has to clean the 107,000 seat Beaver Stadium every sunday morning from top to bottom.

I wouldn't doubt it. Especially the school that allowed their students to get away with throwing bags of piss at the band last time we played there.

Just after home games. There is a thread and story about it that I posted a long time ago in the Big 10 forum.

nothing a matter w/pride, vanity, accomplishments..............therefore neither will retire unless the other does because of the record at state, I feel they will both coach till they die which could make the race very interesting........both of them on hospital mobile beds, oxygen tanks, medical assistants, both communicating to asst coaches through morse code w/their eye blinks, both w/dimensia........could be friggin hilarious

They have both accomplished a ton during their very long coaching tenure and I am unsure which figurehead will retire first, but I am glad that neither coaches my school.
