Who the hell gave Arizona State a first-place vote? What is that all about?

The voters probably got them confused with USC because of their colors and their record.

Well, that's more like it. Definitely better than the coaches' poll. They must have a sportswriter in Arizona who's a real homer. They better enjoy it while it lasts, because while they may have beaten Cal, they still have Oregon, UCLA, and USC.

I don't think Arizona St. has beaten Cal. Cal's only losses are to Oregon St. and UCLA.

Ariz St will lose at least one. VTech will probably lose another... Not sure if I would rather Vtech beat BC or lose.
I like this poll better. I still wish SC would have won so when we play them they would be a top 5 team. Would have really been the only way UF could have had a NC shot IMO.

Haha.. they haven't even beaten Cal, yet... here's the remaining schedule:
Sat, Oct 27 (10) California 10:00 pm --
Sat, Nov 3 at (7) Oregon 3:30 pm --
Sat, Nov 10 at UCLA TBA --
Thu, Nov 22 (13) USC 8:00 pm --
Sat, Dec 1 Arizona 8:00 pm --
They won't make it out alive.

All I can say is that it's a shame we played as lousy as we did to loose to Vandy then drop that low.

I agree, we would need a lot of help at this point. We need Boston College to drop 2 most likely, and Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia Tech and Arizona State to drop 1 more. Assuming we beat #20 Georgia, #10-20 South Carolina and #2 or 3 LSU, I think we would have the votes and computer points to get past a 1 loss West Virginia.

And that is not a group to be taken lightly! What would be the odds of getting through those three with a clean slate?
Just too bad this poll doesn't matter, but Im really surprised SC is still in the top 20

I would not have had a beef had both polls had us out of the Top 25. For the past 6 quarters, we've played more like #100.

I have said all along that we looked like a team that was maybe 15th to around 17th best in the Nation, so I can certainly live with our new ranking where we are not overrated anymore.
The loss to Vandy stung, but dropping 9 spots is right in line with what the AP has done with the other teams that lost to unranked opponents.
Falling out of the top 20 from being ranked 6th was never even an option.

Hell.. too bad we dont play Notre Dame this year.. With those 2 powerhouse offenses.. we might beat them 2-0 in 5 OTs!!
Hell.. our next 2 games @UT @Arkansas.. we could be back in the top 10.. or totally out of the top 25..
Damn.. I went from thinking.. Capital One Bowl in Orlando.. to another trip to beautiful Shreveport in 24 hours.. depresssing
