With South Florida a full-fledged player for the national title, the Bulls get their first Big East road test of the season at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights, once ranked as high as No. 10 in the country, are trying to stay in the Big East race after splitting their first two conference games. Here's hoping the South Florida team is a distant memory this time tomorrow!

Rutgers certainly came to play, but having to settle for the FG after having it 1st & Goal at the 2 is certainly a win for USF.

Please don't call Rutgers win (and they will) an upset. they have a Heisman caliber RB and were a preseason Top 25. Not to mention they are the home team.

It would be an upset and a pretty nice upset at that.

Add about 15 more to start the 2nd..........
and a VERY blatant face mask...... too bad that face mask really doesn't give Rutgers much in the way of yards, because a penalty that vagrant should be severe.

I took Rutgers getting 3. If your only favored 3 and lose it''s not an upset. upset is when App. St or Stanford win. When something unthinkable happens. Like when the horse (named upset the reason we say upset) was suppoposed to come in last and won.

Technically, if the underdog wins it is an upset no matter how big of an upset.
USF is favored by 2 1/2 on the road, which means they would be favored by 5 to 6 on a neutral turf or by about 8 on their home field.
It won't be a huge upset, but a Rutgers win is still considered an upset.
The mere fact that USF isn't favore by much shows that few of the experts and betters believe that the Bulls actually deserve such a ranking.

dang, Rutgers stopped USF twice and then fumbles the punt to give it right back to them in great field position..... TD.

The Big East is not the 3rd best Conference in the nation. It is the 4th and that is only becasue the ACC and the Big Ten suck this year (and ACC for the past few years). I have never said any different about USC or KY for that matter...... they, like USF, benefited from a lot of teams being upset.
None of those teams belong in the top 10 IMHO, but of the 3, USF is the worst.

If USF manages to pull this one out (and they likely will) they will be destroyed in the BcS game against a real opponent.

As the announcers said, in the computer polls it won't matter at all because a win is a win.

Huge penalty by Rutgers and very unnecessary.
3rd and 18 from their own 12 yard line with 2:26 left...... USF burned their last timeout I do believe.
Very conservative call there as Rutgers wants to run some clock and depend on their defense to hold yet again. 1:50 and counting....... not sure I would want my defense to have to win this for me.

I'd definitely take USF over tOSU this year. USF has had the much tougher schedule and the bigger wins. They certainly deserve their ranking a lot more than tOSU. They talked about it all morning on Mike and Mike. Now, down the stretch, tOSU will have a schedule that would be tougher most years; but we've all seen how weak the "big" 10 is this year. Hell no fansmack. Kroger man.
USF played a great game and I made some cash. I still think USF is a top 10 team. OU, BC and tOSU are waaaaaay too hyped. This year is hard to call.

By the way, just for the band wagon guys that jumped on to USF... don't worry, they'll lose at least one more.
Thank you for that insightful post.

Keep it coming Raptor....
Don't leave me hanging like this. :)
I edited the other post...... the Hail Mary was intercepted on 4th and 37.
Rutgers wins it 30-27.
Now we get to hear the excuses.
One fan is asking why you throw the flag..... uh, maybe because it was pass interference and you can't ignore the rules just because it is late in the game.
I still think USF is a top 10 team.
Once again....
Up the dosage. :ph34r::laugh:

to an unranked team.......
THEY HAVE ZERO SHOT AT THE NATIONAL TITLE AND EVEN IF UNDEFEATED LIKELY WOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED FOR IT.

South Florida will fall big in the next rankings. IMO I say anywhere from 15th to 21st.

I don't know about that... had they actually gone undefeated and remained undiscovered as frauds, they would have played for it and would have been slaughtered. OSU would beat them and OSU may be the most over rated team this year with their cup cake conference.

USF is over rated. USF beat a struggling Auburn Team and WV is over rated (as well as the entire Big East).
But when it's your Florida team, then they (Florida) lose to a ranked Auburn team. Thanks, I think I got ya now.......

No, they just came out of their slump. Auburn is playing solid ball again now. At the time, Auburn was struggling... when they played UF, they played spectacular. They did not play the same in the USF game.
If UF has things fall right and goes to the SEC CG, I would rather play LSU again than Auburn again.

pretty weak, when how well or poorly a team plays often has very little if anything to do with rankings......which is what you've been preaching in this thread about USF all thread long. Regardless how Auburn played against UF, they were un-ranked at the time.....hence, your argument makes no sense.
but enough of this nonsense.....

people just need to understand that teams are off and on all the time and get beter through the season for instance..... we beat tennesse 59 20 but tennesse beat georgia 35 14.... does this mean we will beat georgia by 60 points! dought it but i hope haha... that proves that teams get beter! in some cases they get worst you could say but this year auburn improved alot since they played usf

Ok... so teams that aren't starting in the top 25 but have a great season after a first few hard games doesn't matter? How do you justify that? At the end of the season, quality losses are dependent on what the team finished as not what they were when they played.

you just need to decide on where you stand. For instance, if you truly believe the above you posted, then your post below:
USF is over rated. USF beat a struggling Auburn Team and WV is over rated (as well as the entire Big East).
makes no sense, as it totally contradicts the above post. USF beat Auburn. Auburn is a ranked team now. It's therefore - based on your argument above - a quality win for USF. Which is a weak argument for saying USF is overrated.
just trying to get you to see how your comments are very contradicting. I made the argument in another thread about UF very similar to yours about USF, and you said it made no sense. The fact that it concerned UF, and not USF, may have something to do with it.....

When USF played Auburn, they were playing sluggish and not very good. If USF remains in the top 10, it will be a quality loss for Auburn. Just because they're in the top 10 doesn't mean they deserve to be there. They played a weak WV team which shot them to the top with the help of other losses.
USF is over rated, we all saw it tonight. Auburn is not over rated. They are a good team but ranked where they should be. USF should be right near Auburn not #2.

That game last night was garbage. USF and the Big East is better than people realize and give them credit for. Rutgers is a good football team, and is coached better than almost every school in the NCAA. Greg Schiano is a defensive mastermind.

It amazes me that fans STILL want to blow smoke up USF's butt and drink the kool-aid.
Now, Rutgers won and they are all of a sudden a great team from a great conference...... NOT!!!!
The Big East is at best the 4th toughest conference as they have a bunch of wanna-bes and pretenders. Now a select few keep pumping up that weak conference in an attempt to make themselves look better because they were WRONG about how great USF was/is.
And now we hear the excuses being made on the pass interference call. They just showed in repeatedly in slow motion on ESPN and AGAIN, it was pass interference on the offense as the defender had the positioning to either intercept it or knock it down, since it was 4th and long.
IT WAS PI THOUGH AND TO CLAIM ANYTHING ELSE IS BS.
Plus, how many times have we heard of how one play doesn't determine the winner of a game???? Funny how that claim changes when the situation of what teams are involved is reversed.
All in all though, no matter what you feel about USF, them losing helps several SEC teams.
