View Full Version : Nickson or Adams....

In an effort to get more traffic in the Vandy section, I am going to start a new thread every week. This one will be about the so-called QB controversy we have on our hands. Let's face it folks, Chris Nickson has been flat out terrible this season. He has done nothing really to help us win ball games and has put us in position to lose most. I am not being a fair-weathered fan, just calling it like I see it. On the other hand, Adams has done a nice job filling in, he doesn't bring the true dual threat that Nickson brings to the table, nor do I think he is a better passer than Nickson(although, he has been thus far).
So what does Bobby Johnson do? Leave Nickson in, and let him work the kinks out himself, and show Nickson that he has confidence in his QB? Or does he give Mackenzi Adams the start this week, basically saying he has lost all confidence in Chris Nickson. What are your thoughts?

Adams looked good against Georiga. He was a very steady 7-10, with a TD pass. Nickson does bring that running ability to the QB position, but he also has serious accuracy problems at times.
I would say give Adams another game.

I just wish Nickson would go back to his ways of last year. He was great, I don't understand what's wrong this year. I know he got hurt, but I seriously don't think it's damaged his ego THAT much has it?

Johnson seemed to indicate in his post-game presser Saturday that he was going to continue to use both Nickson and Adams in a dual-QB fashion. It did seem like the offense was smoother once Adams entered the game, but Nickson is the more experienced QB.
Not all that different a situation from the Gamecock's delimma with Blake Mitchell and Chris Smelley....
I say start Adams, and use Nickson occasionally...

I tell you, Nickson may be the better runner, but Adams is pretty damn quick himself. I had never seen him until the Ga game last week and I was impressed. Looks like y'all have a couple of good options at QB and the competion between them should push one or both to get a whole lot better.

I'd go with Adams in the start, too. Sometimes that's all it takes to get the usual starter to refocus. Riding some bench seemed to get Cox's attention at AU, and maybe he tried a little harder to be the man. Might just work for Vandy and Nickson, too. If not, then you have nothing to lose by replacing him anyway.

It sucks that Spurrier wants to bring back Mitchell. We have been doing just fine without him and I hope this doesn't hurt Smelley's confidence.
As for Vandy, I think Adams is probably the best fit and gives yall the best chance to win right now. Nickson like you guys have said has been horrible this season and we don't know why.

I don't understand what you mean,"it sucks that Spurrier is bringing Mitchell back", Are you crazy? You have to realize that at any time we are always one injury away from not having Smelley. Blake Mitchell has been a good QB in the past for us, I still think he can play and he needs to get reps to be ready. He is not taking over for Smelley, but I know Spurrier and if he plays better, he will play. He is just that type of coach.

Spurrier wants the QB he had for the stretch run last year. He wants to see if Mitchell is capable of that again. That is all this is about.

Can you blame him? I mean Mitchell was outstanding. His stats were the best in the SEC during that span.

ok guys, getting off topic here. If you wanna argue about Spurrier and the gamecocks, go to the USC forum. I was just trying to get opinions on Adams and Nickson, not Smelley and Mitchell.
